I rescheduled for a week later and I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. On my third visit I again waited 30 minutes, this time without a person even acknowledging me. I went to the front desk to ask what the hold up was to then be told that my counselor had gone on vacation and forgotten to call her patients. I was also told I was the third person that day that it had happened to. What a waste of time (had to request off work to get this appointment) and money. Needless to say, I won't be going back.

I am writing to share my concern and experience with the Newport County Community Mental Health Center in the hope that others can make informed decisions about their care. The center's priorities focus more on time, billing, and strict procedural requirements than on patient care. I felt like a number rather than a person in need of help. Medications were prescribed with minimal background review, and little attention was paid to my overall well-being or personal circumstances. I came to the center following major depressive episode, seeking compassion and support. Unfortunately, interactions left me feeling even worse--disconnected and unheard. This letter serves as a warning and a call for change. Mental health care should be about people, not paperwork. I hope sharing my experience might encourage improvements in how clients are treated and supported.
