I love the format and the eclectic array of all the music but is anybody else getting really bad reception on their vehicles??? Also it seems like the wave strength to my home receiver is also affected. Does anybody else have this problem and what have you done to get this wonderful one of a kind station? Great music, most of the time. I don't mind the subscription fee- it's a bargain. Sometimes I have trouble with my Android phone cutting out which us frustrating. However, I do need to take breaks, which are becoming more frequent, as the Playlist seems rather repetitive and some of the DJs, definitely not all, become pretty grating. My biggest complaint is that the overall tone of songs, fake commercials, comedians, etc., are so darn white and older male. A little diversity in song selections, a few more female and people of color comedians and stopping the fake Indian accents and misogynistic humor [sic] spots would go a long way in recognizing we are in the year 2022. read more

Just charged $5 at 2am early Xmas morning. I wanted to download the KPIG app because I'm a subscriber and a FOX new affiliate came up! We were driving from Carmel to Half-Moon Bay and discovered KPIG while scanning the FM band. I'm not sure what to call the format, except that it's kinda blues with a sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic mix that encompassed Little Feat, Dylan, Asleep At the Wheel and, from time to time, vocalists who couldn't carry a tune if it was handed to them. Whatever the fomat, it was the perfect soundtrack for our drive along California's Highway One. read more

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who understand and appreciate good radio as an art form, and those who prefer mindless McRadio. KPIG listeners are in the former category. Taking it one step further: there just ain't no other radio station quite like KPIG. KPIG is much like the old free-form radio of the 60's, where the announcers actually understand the music, put together their own playlists and treat radio like the wonderfully creative medium that it can be. It's one of those stations you can't turn off because you want to know what's next. My only complaint? Their over-the-air signal sucks in the South Bay. It comes in pretty good as I head up 17 toward Santa Cruz, but not so good down in the flats. Very disappointed with KPIG's streaming service, which claims to be "commercial-free", the only reason I've been paying for it for years. Last week though, it was spewing the most obnoxious ads, with some guy yelling at me to do something "NOW!". This week, another ad was immediately followed by a an ironic station promo touting how commercial free the stream was. I complained both times, and they at first pretended to be shocked, shocked I tell you, but eventually admitted it happens, and refuse to stop it. They want it both ways. So, today I turned off their auto-renewal, I refuse to pay for their ongoing fraud. read more

My husband recently passed away and I needed a radio station to entertain my parrot while I was gone from the house and I accidentally found KPIG. My bird loves it and so do I. He loves all the "oinks" and "squeels" and all the other quirky sounds that you make during the day. I have you on all day long now as I love listening to all the entertainers, even tho some can't carry a tune. haha I love them anyway!! K*PIG is the musical epitome of Santa Cruz county. Funky, unique, rad, trailblazing, independent, free spirited, and truly one of a kind. A totally random mix of songs from nearly every genre spanning from 60', 70's, 80's, 90's and present day. It's safe to say you won't hear the same song played more than once each day...and honestly probably for a whole week or even a month. K*PIG always has something new spinning on the air. I love how the feature many new and talented local artist on the radio, and have lots of pride for big artists that are from Cali. One of my favorite little quirks about K*PIG is the random and hilarious spoof commercials they make up and play on the air. Who thinks those up? Seriously, one funny person! read more

Moving from Albuquerque to Monterey in 1997, cruising the last few miles down 156 with U-haul in tow I was spinning thru the radio dial when I found KPIG. Haven't turned it off since. Brilliant irascible dj's, a broad sweep of great music; it's random, relevant, enthusiastic and local - a fine metaphor and a better soundtrack for my life. Still miss LE. Props to Phil's and Don Quixote for keeping her voice on the airwaves. Would never believe that the bane of radio - dead air - could be turned into an art form. But Cuzin Al does it every week. This station is awful. Some of my family members listen to it so I have to hear it when I come visit. KPIG plays songs that are like a nightmare fusion of redneck/hillbilly/hippy garbage. this is how radio should be! before clear channel owned *everything* and before DJs were given lists of music that they had to play, there were more stations like KPIG. but it seems like KPIG is the survivor in a world of clear channel. i agree that you never know what you're going to get. of course i don't love EVERYTHING that they play, but i appreciate the variety. i have also discovered many artists while driving home at night, listening to the pig. and i nearly drove off the road when i heard an old amy ray solo song on KPIG one day (she doesn't get any radio airplay as a solo, indie artist). wow! i also love the faux commercials (they're funny) and the hog calls. Radio the way it should be: where the DJs get to play, as far as I can tell, whatever they want. What I heard on a recent short drive, off the top of my head: Kip Addotta's Wet Dream; some Mitch Hedberg, some sort of instrumental lounge cover of the Gnarls Barkley song "Crazy," some Dylan, and some sort of bluegrassy instrumental. Best radio station ever. Been listening religiously since 1979 even though I've never lived in Santa Cruz or north of San Luis Obispo. I'd get so desperate in the 80's for Travis T. that I'd drive up to San Ardo where I could first get reception just to listen in the car for an hour or 2. Finally, KPIG came to SLO Co. in the 90's and I bought a house that specifically got reception. Now have streaming! Auditory nirvana at last no matter where I am. read more

As good as it gets for old fashioned Disc Jockey driven music that's a bit eclectic but if that's your style, this is the station for you. On a recent outing to the coast, I scanned after crossing the hill and found these fantastic tunesmiths. Presidents day weekend was so fantastic weatherwise that the addition of the PIGS music made everything beyond top shelf. Great music and sunshine is the formula for the best high going without the expense of drugs. I am 60 years old and have heard some bad ass radio back in the 60's and these folks are right there.
