Was recently in the Flatiron area and wanted to grab a late dinner, every time we walked by this Thai restaurant on Fifth Avenue, it was always full of people, so we decided to try it and very happy we did. The dining area is nicely decorated with beautifully painted walls in the main dining room. The host was very nice informing us that the kitchen was closing soon but we could be served if we knew what we wanted. We ordered the crispy tofu appetizer, a flat noodle dish with shaved ribeye and a Pad Thai. Everything was delicious and nicely plated with the cook bringing the food to the table. I would definitely go back for the noodle dish with a generous portion of shaved ribeye, it was amazing and of course the Pad Thai was also very good. It's after midnight and I'm still thinking about my dinner. I had the massaman beef curry with potato pavé. The sauce was damn delicious!! It was served to me a little warm but I didn't even care. I ate all of it! The beef was soooo tender. Just fell apart. Melted in my mouth. My mom had the crab fried rice and we shared an order of Brussels sprouts. Her dish was good. Not as memorable for me but definitely solid. The Brussels sprouts were cooked well. Could use a little less soy flavor but I enjoyed them. I took home some pad kee mao for the next day. What a pleasant surprise to stumble upon a delicious Thai restaurant offering one of the best braised beef cheek in the city. The host was very welcoming and even went out of his way to accommodate our early arrival (by 45 mins). My friend and I came to Kraam for Summer Restaurant Week and while the environment and foods is decent, I was a bit disappointed with the flavors, especially as there are so many amazing Thai spots in Manhattan. We started the watermelon salad and burrata. The menu said the saiad was topped with seasoned crispy branzino but honestly I didn't see any pieces of fish and the combination of watermelon and crispy garlic and shallots was a bit odd and the dish was pretty oily. The burrata was yummy with chili jam but nothing special. For mains, we got the wok-fried crispy seafood (this was my favorite of the meal) and the ground beef with rice and eggplant. The fried seafood was nicely seasoned with a light breading. The ground beef dish though I could make myself and while it had a nice flavor and spicy kick, I thought it was deceptive marketing to call it dry aged ribeye when it's really ground beef. Finally we got the coconut puff with butterfly pea coconut ice cream for dessert as the shaved ice was sold out. The coconut puff was rich and creamy which was a nice decadent way to end the meal but the coconut ice cream was way too sweet my taste and fairly generic. Overall not bad but a little disappointing as the flavors were just ok and for the price ($60 per person) for restaurant week, the meal really wasn't worth it. read more

They were having restaurant week which was 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert for $60 (dinner). We shared a restaurant week and got an extra entree. The waitress was extremely patient and helpful in helping us choose our dishes and giving us recommendations. Appetizer - Yum Som O Lobster I've never had Pomelo salad before. The flavors were good, similar to papaya salad though I personally prefer the crunchy texture of papaya over pomelo (similar to grapefruit). The lobster tail was cooked well, but they gave half a lobster tail and it was relatively small (about the size of a large shrimp). Entrees Tom som Chilean sea bass: probably my favorite dish of the night. The sea bass was super soft and melted in my mouth. Even the mushrooms were nice and soft. The broth itself was a nice clear sour soup, but wasn't as flavorful as some other Thai restaurants I've been to. Again I felt the portion was a little small since they only gave four chunks of fish. Seafood Pad Kee Mao ($30): One of the rare times that they do give a lot of seafood, but I wish they gave more noodles instead. Good flavor and overall a good pad Kee Mao. Dessert - thapthim krop The shaved ice in coconut milk reminded me of the Vietnamese dessert, Che. Except the ice here was hardened so I couldn't break it into the coconut milk. There were very few pieces of jackfruit and the chestnut jellies were hard as if they had just taken them out of the fridge. Very disappointing end to an otherwise good meal. Overall, I would say the flavors were good but not worth the price. However, if you're looking for good Thai food in East Midtown area, it's worth giving this place a shot. read more

Summer Restaurant Week returned late July and ran three weeks ending August 17th. However many places are continuing it till the end of the month and into September. Kraam Thai's menu was appealing. The broad rice noodles with Peking Duck were silky and seeped in flavor that I have been dreaming about them all week. Normally I don't order a drink but the mocktail sounded interesting. Lychee, passion fruit and coconut was not in my opinion a good combination. What I should have had was the mango mojito. Several customers had ordered it. Service was fine and Joshua had I'll Ed in Thailand and was familiar with the cuisine. We have been to Kraam many times now and the food is always excellent. I was sad they removed the khao soi from the menu, but they like to change dishes out seasonally. The newest Autumn addition that I love is the kua duck noodle, I hope this becomes a regular menu item. It is delicious and comes with a spicy sauce that elevates the dish. Luckily the duck noodle is on their lunch special list (the dishes on the lunch special come with a free appetizer, chive sticks, soup or kale salad). We also tried the choo chee and beef cheek massaman and both are excellent, full of flavor and depth. The ribeye garlic fried rice is a must and we have it each time we go. The peking duck salad is also extremely good and has a nice hint of spice to it. So basically everything we have tried we have very much enjoyed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As I mentioned in my first review, the space is beautifully decorated with a bar in the front and has a good amount of tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and we have had a great experience every time we have dined in. Had a lovely upscale casual date night with my partner at Kraam recently! My partner really enjoyed the Octopus appetizer (it was less up my alley preference-wise but objectively a great dish). A morning at NYPL in Bryant park, a late lunch, with Kraam as the venue. Mostly deserted, I was flanked by two male pairs, two friends exchanging stories and two others on a date. Charmed. Later, another sole female diner like myself showed up. The waiter was at my elbow when I needed him. I had the pad kee mao or drunken noodles with tofu. Spicy, chewy, smoky and undeniably greasy, this absolutely hit the spot. Also, deep fried chive rolls, bone dry, crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside. Did I have to discreetly loosen a pant button or two? No, gentle reader. Because I have sensibly learned to wear pants with elasticized waistbands. Enough about my sartorial choices. I went to this tasty Thai spot that has been open for a while a good while ago as per most of my recent reviews. The prices might be a tad higher than some of the other Thai spots but they do some very worthy elevations of general Thai food and also offer some dishes which are not found in other places outside of having to go to Elmhurst or something with the location partially contributing to the prices (see Nomad Tea Parlour next door for a similar much worse example.) They also occasionally have some very unique rotating dishes and the portion sizes are generally big enough that it's worth it as well. We went here around happy hour and I had a Passion Fruit Bellini which is a rather uncommon cocktail for me as I generally don't like Prosecco which I believe was $13 and was pretty tasty with a artful presentation with a flower in it. The service was friendly. As they were out of the Krapow (Kaphrao) Peking Duck that day, we started with something that I don't think is on the current menu which is one of my personal favorites; the Nam Khao/Spicy Herbal Crispy Rice & Pork Sausage Salad listed as a Laotian salad with chili, roasted peanuts, shallots, scallion, cilantro, and ginger which was around $20 or so (I honestly don't remember the price.) The dish is Laotian in origin and is primarily found at northeastern Thai/Isan spots (which is easy to tell from the Laotian sour sausage/sai krok Isan in there) and I was very happy to find it here and introduce it to some of the people who had never had it before. The dish was presented deconstructed which was a fun touch and we mixed in everything. The dish had crunch, sourness, spiciness, and some freshness as expected and was a good take. There's a few other Isan spots with better versions but for a non Isan spot, this was a very good variant and I hope it comes back on the menu. We otherwise ordered a bunch of main dishes. The most expensive but excellent was the Braised Beef Cheek Massaman for $36 with potato gratin, crispy shallot, and braised shallot. Many places make their massaman curry a bit too sweet but this was a good exception with a balanced mix of sweetness and curry flavor. The beef was cooked wonderfully with the fat being rendered properly and the potato was a better spin compared to the usual boiled potatoes found in this curry. The price might have been a tad high but this was an excellent interpretation of this dish. Most reasonably priced and closest to a dish found in other more generic Thai spots was the Pad Kee Mao/Drunken Noodles, which is available with a variety of toppings as per the other noodles, but we got it with chicken for $21 with chili, peppercorn, sweet pepper, egg, and basil. The noodles were cooked better than most other places with a very nice wok hei and the bits of chicken were tender. The holy basil was also fried nicely. This was also very tasty though the portion wasn't the hugest. The Black Pepper Ribeye for $29 was simply stir-fried with black pepper, scallion, young peppercorn, and onion. It reminded me of something you would find in a good Chinese place with the steak being roughly cut into thin tender pieces. The sauce already there added a good bit of flavor already but I think the flavor would work even nicer if it was paired with nam jim jeaw. It was good. My least favorite, though more because of personal preference rather than flavor, was the Moo Palo for $26 or 6 hour braised pork belly, tofu, and soft-boiled egg in five spice broth. Though I do like five spice (especially with duck soup,) I've never been the biggest fan of this Chinese-Thai dish as it's usually pretty one note. That being said, the pork belly was cooked nicely and the tofu pockets were a fun unique touch so they did elevate this. Not much to complain about for this place if you ignore the price point which is honestly Justified based on the flavors and unique creations. I would definitely go back here and try more dishes. read more

The lunch special came out to $25/$21 that included the chive sticks and croquettes, Khao Soi with chicken amd tofu green curry with a side of white rice. Walked in on a weekday evening and there were many open tables to sit at. The restaurant slowly filled throughout the night, but I truly believe Kraam is a hidden gem that I could see potentially attracting crowds ala Pranakhon and Mitr. First of all, the restaurant is adorable. Beautifully decorated, with tall ceilings and a gorgeous bar. The volume is not too loud, so it would be a great spot for a date night. The menu was incredibly intriguing to me, far more expansive than your typical Thai fare. We didn't order drinks, but the Happy Hour menu seems like a great deal. We started with a grilled sweet corn salad, which is basically papaya salad with some corn on top. Beware, this dish is very spicy!! My friend and I were almost crying eating it, but we prevailed and eventually the spice subsided. Solid papaya salad. Next, we got the drunken kee mao with tofu. This dish was very good, topped with lightly fried thai basil. No notes. We were really impressed by the choo chee, which is butterflied and deep fried branzino fillet in a choo chee curry (similar to red curry). The presentation was beautiful and the curry was delicious. The fry on the fish was pretty good, although my one complaint would be that it was slightly overfried and hard to bite through at times. For dessert, we ordered a poached banana in warm coconut milk, which was the cherry on top of a lovely meal. This dessert was so comforting and sweet, perfect for a cold NYC night. The good is that it is located a couple of blocks down from the Empire State Building, so you can avoid the tourist crowds and take in the city. Outdoor seating is also available. Our group RSVP'd before attending. The service was attentive, and we were seated promptly upon arrival. However, the space is linear, so there are few seating options for multiple groups. Now the food & the bad, the calamari was horrible. It was definitely not fresh. Tasted like it was frozen and overcooked, literally tasted like old rubber bands. The Peking duck noodles and the braised short ribs were delicious, I should also add that I took my teens there on a Wednesday and even though we were underdressed, we were still given the best service. This dec'd out little gem has the most elevated Thai dishes I've seen anywhere outside Thailand, even Thai Town in LA...and the drinks are next level (had to get me a second mango sticky rice cocktail). Highly recommend the seasonal items, but also the seafood dishes and the curries...even the "standards" like pad Thai are fire (stashed at back of menu which is genius choice architecture). If you really like to have a good Thai food in Manhattan , you should go check out Kraam , a newly opened Thai restaurant in Nomad Manhattan! The food at Kraam absolutely blew my mind! Each dish was so flavorful, despite the small portions. We started with the Hoii Yang - bursting with spicy chili lime sauce and umeshu infusion, it was an explosion of taste. The Muek Yang, a baby squid with spicy chili garlic lime sauce paired with Asian pear, is an absolute must-try! For the entrée, we had the Neu Yang - the beef was incredibly tender and delicious. This spot has quickly become one of my favorite Thai places in Manhattan. They also have an impressive selection of cocktails and wine. The ambiance at Kraam is cozy and elegant, making it a perfect spot for a date or a casual dinner. I attended a private after-party hosted by Octavia Morgan following her Ulta Beauty event and Master Classes in NYC, and the experience at Kraam was exceptional from start to finish. The staff was warm, attentive, and professional, and the cocktail presentation was beautiful--especially the custom Octavia Morgan cocktail menu. I ordered the Peach Bellini and absolutely loved it. What really stood out, though, was the level of care. After a long commute in from Long Island, I was visibly tired. Octavia's husband noticed, checked in with me, and when I told him I was exhausted, he personally made sure the bar prepared a double espresso for me. That thoughtful gesture gave me just enough energy to make it home safely. Thank you to Octavia Morgan and the entire Kraam team for a flawless and genuinely considerate experience. Walked in around 6pm on a Thursday evening and was able to easily get a table for two without a reservation. The place was decorated really nicely and I enjoyed the vibes of the place. I ordered the drunken noodles with tofu and it was pretty good. Could be a little bit spicier though. I liked that they added fried basil leaves to the dish. It added a difference in texture that made it fun to eat. Would come back to try their other dishes! read more

First of all this is so aesthetically upscale. Great place for a date. super fancier than anticipated. Pad thai was delicious and filled me up. Curry was on the saltier side (not sweet) but very enjoyable and filling. Papaya salad was delicious, corn was super sweet. Drip coffee was fun you can pour yourself, it was good too. I would skip the mango sticky rice, wasn't great. Overall food was pretty tasty, but lost points for dessert. Service was so great and kind. Fast too. The bench seats we were sat at had a rattan bench back which stabbed me a couple times-- sorta uncomfy. I'd rate 4.5 but will point down for those two minor things.
