When we arrived, the place was full, so make a reservation. We were greeted with a prosecco as we waited a minute or two for our table to be ready. This was the real deal. The staff appeared and sounded quintessentially Italian, the clay oven was in plain sight, and did the place ever smell delicious!  Shortly after being seated, I noticed the restaurant had framed certificates noting they'd been awarded the world championship awards multiple times since the 2000s. At that moment it occurred to me that we might very well actually be in for the world's best pizza. We ordered four different pizzas and split them four ways, giving us all a chance to taste a bit of everything. My favourites were the prosciutto & mushroom pizza, though their award winning special was notably the hit at our table. Truthfully, I don't have anything bad to say about any of the pizzas. The toppings were incredibly fresh and I can only assume directly from Italy.  I mean, it was the best pizza I've ever had. I highly recommend if you are in or near Zurich. It's definitely pricey by North American standards (Approx. 30 Francs per pizza), but the quality did not disappoint.

Food takes forever to come out, and once it does, is mediocre if not simply nasty. Considering how few options Zug has, this restaurant needs to be replaced swiftly by entrepreneurs who have a vision, passion for food, people and creating a good atmosphere. The food is some of the best Italian I have tasted outside of Italia. The pizza Margherita was choice, cooked properly, and came out swiftly. I also had the rigatoni bolognese, which was superlative. They even had a few obscure wines from southern Italy, one being Ciro from Calabria. The service is typical. Very warm people, although I suspect that my ability to speak the language earned me a few added points. Southern Italians are usually more hospitable than those in Roma, or in the North, so you generally can't go wrong with a restaurant run by Calabrese or Siciliani. I found everyone to be warm and welcoming, rendering just the right amount of attention. The ambiance is very minimal. Some of the best places I have eaten throughout Italy have had the exact ambiance of Centro Italiano. No fuss, no frills, just great food. What's the point of dining in a palace if the food is substandard? You can't go wrong eating here.
