He takes his time and my son even likes him (which is rare ladies and gents, believe me!). He has a sincere interest in my son's well-being and answers any and all questions I have without making me feel like a moron, as some doctors have a tendency to do. Dr. Gold prescribed such high doses of medication that according to friends and colleagues I appeared "catatonic". Upon entering an outpatient facility, the staff psychiatrist immediately took me off all the medications Dr. Gold had prescribed, and prescribed an entirely different regiment of medication that left me feeling infinitely better than I had in 2 years. I was able to think clearly, my panic attacks (weren't true panic attacks, I discovered I was suffering from a reaction to one of the medications he prescribed) ceased, the shakiness I was experiencing (with writing, eating, etc) stopped with the medication changes made by the new psychiatrist. I regret not listening to the advice of family and friends who had been encouraging me to go to a different psychiatrist - much sooner, as I endured the most frightening depression of my life, made much worse by all the drugs Dr. Gold prescribed. Please take heed...if you're a current patient and you're questioning his treatment plan, get a second opinion! I felt so fortunate being able to find someone as helpful as he was. I always felt comfortable talking to him and never felt unsure or intimidated. His office staff, they were also kind and caring. I am very sad to say that he is retiring the practice at the end of September. Having had one bad experience with someone else in the past, but also having a good experience with Dr. Berns, I hope I'm lucky enough to be able to find someone else like him to see.
