What a beautiful little cafe with seating!!! Spotlessly clean! So many delicious bakery selections .. it's hard to choose .. I wanted them all! I've been meaning to come here for quite some time, but kept forgetting. I would remember when I'd go to Arby's in the evening, but the timing was wrong. Arby's has closed and it's now Two Guns. I went to Two Guns one morning and I saw Krust Bakery, so I came here afterwards. Timing was right! This bakery is tucked away in the corner and could be easily missed. There's free parking in the lot, but it is quite limited out front. You could also try to find a spot on the street. The display and sales area of the cafe is small. However, there is seating in the large room through a doorway. It is a nice and inviting space to relax in. They also have a couple of tables outside. Wi-Fi is free and the information to access it is posted. TIP: They are closed on Sunday & Monday. The selection of breads & pastries is a bit limited. This is a much smaller operation than Sweet Wheat down the street. There are a lot of items on their menu that isn't visible in the display, you need to refer to the menu. They do offer a variety of drinks (coffee & tea). As for the pastries, they have Croissants, Scones, Empanadas, Muffins, Cakes, Breads, Cruffin, Doughnuts, Strudel, Tarts, & Croffle. For something more substantial, they have Avo Toast, Quiche, Soup, Sandwiches, Burritos, & probably more that I've missed. I decided to try the Apple Strudel. The lady asked if I wanted it warmed up and I said, "Yes, please"! To my surprise, it was also cut into three pieces. Made it easier to eat! It was very good! The apple pieces were plentiful! The good: My husband and I really love pastries and baked goods so we've been trying to hit up all of the local bakeries lately. I tried 3-4 pastries from here that were decent (custard donut, cookie, and almond croissant). I tried the galbi baguette as well and liked how unique of an item this was. I liked the feel of the small shop. I believe this was a Japanese bakery. The bad: I didn't realize they had a separate seating area that was in a different section. I just sat in the outdoor space where there was a single table for 2-3 people. It was lopsided. The pastries were very expensive. I also tried a lavender latte but thought it was subpar to the same flavored latte from their coffee competitor across the street (I ordered the same drink back to back at both places). The galbi baguette was just ok. The flavoring of the meat wasn't my favorite and the bread was also not the most complimentary. The interesting: It seems like their quiche is a top seller. read more

I came on a rainy Wednesday morning but despite it being midweek and raining; folks were continuously coming in (an indication that this a indeed a good and popular place). It was my first visit and I know it won't be my last. I got a Chicken Turnover ($5.50) and a Strawberry and Cream Croissant ($6.50). Their food items are slightly pricey but they do bake everything in-house, except for croissants. I took my pastries to the back where they have nice and quiet area with comfy couches, chairs and tables for folks to enjoy their coffee and pastries. I really liked their seating area. It's so cute and quaint and definitely a good place for hanging out and just relaxing. I tried the Chicken Turnover first. They had heated it up for me and so it was nice and warm. I though the chicken filling was flavorful but it was slightly salty. It was tasty though. The Strawberry and Cream Croissant was my favorite. It was a pretty large croissant with lots of cream and strawberries. The croissant was flaky and buttery and I loved the sweet flavoring that the cream and strawberries added. This is a definite must try. I really enjoyed my visit here and I must admit I was already eyeing some of their other fresh baked pastries for a future visit. It's on a busy street but snugged in a business plaza. The spot itself has an interesting setup. One is strictly the bakery and the other room is the lounge. Great spot to study and hang out with people. It's a pretty intimate and clean spot. I enjoyed the bossanova renditions, pictures of plants, and the plants itself. FOOD: Cold Brew (Recommend) If you need energy, this is for you. Took it straight pretty bitter and strong. Drank it at 10am and it kept me up till 4am... but then again I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine. Walnut chocolate chip cookie (Recommend) Delicious. Made fresh. Good portions of walnut and chocolate chips to mix in the sweet and savoriness to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Nothing like picking up your pie and enjoying a little Thanksgiving brunch at the same time! I pre-ordered their kabocha pumpkin pie ($40) for my family gathering this past holiday and it was such a hit! Tbh, I was a little underwhelmed at first glance since it was a more pricey pie, I expected more in terms of presentation but the kabocha filling was delicious. I think they over baked the crust just a little bit though. My husband and I ate a light brunch at the cafe as well. They have outdoor seating and a cute little indoor area where you can sit as well. They also have a couple tables outside, if that is your preference. In terms of location, as stated they are located on Pacific Coast Highway. They have a parking lot directly in front of the row of businesses that inhabit this small shopping complex. Perhaps the easiest place to park is in the roof parking lot, however. There, few people ever park, so it's easy to grab a spot and easy to get in and out of. Got a lavender latte and carrot cake first time, and I barely tasted any lavender in my drink. Carrot cake was nice and moist; I also enjoyed the few crumbles on top. Second time ordered a chocolate croissant and Cinnamon latte. Croissant could be flakier and fresher, but it was chockful of chocolate bits, which was a plus. Cinnamon latte was okay: well-spiced, but too much of the cinnamon spice sank to the bottom of the drink, which made the end of the drink way too spiced, even bitter. Overall, an okay establishment. Went in with a friend and had the Turkey, Egg Sandwich, She had the Brie Prosciutto sandwich, and shared a fresh asked for and made for us, almond croissant, and last the quiche lorraine. Everything was delightful, from the service, cute sitting area in the back to all the food. The breads so fresh and croissant just flaky and moist. I would have liked my egg to have a runny yolk but still made well except for that, and the touch of berry jam with the turkey just the right amount. All in all I would recommend this place for a nice brunch treat or early baked good. There are so many yummy things I will go back. Parking is easy to find the location a little harder just keep an eye out for the address then you will walk up to see the place in the back. P.S. I did get a couple of coffee's and they were good, but with Boy and the Bear so close not sure I would order coffee here. A couple visits in now and all I can say is that Krust is undoubtedly one of the best bakeries my wife and I have ever tried! Right off the bat, the croissants possess INCREDIBLE flakiness and lamination - think delicately crispy exterior breaking away with the utmost ease to expose the buttery soft layers within. While the chocolate is excellent, the strawberry custard blew our minds with its addition of fresh fruit and that mad silky creaminess. While we haven't been to France, we can certainly say that these were the best to date and soundly outdid even places like Tartine. Not far off, the custard bombolone was outstanding and had a lightweight springiness reminiscent of the Japanese bakery we loved back in Sacramento. Among the hot items, the breakfast sandwich with ham on sourdough was fresh and generously packed while the avocado toast's blend of creaminess and balsamic acidity crushed it. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Belgian waffle triangles - pillowy soft and accompanied by real maple syrup, nutella, and your choice of strawberries and/or bananas. For drinks, their cappuccino was very respectable though outshone by the derricious cinnamon honey latte...great depth of flavor with pleasant spice and just the right amount of sweetness. Seaside Bakery in Newport held a special place in my heart for their Ham & Cheese croissant, but I guess now I'm okay with having an affair with Krust. Soooold. Because it doesn't go into a microwave, the breakfast croissant still has a delicate flakey outside and melts in your mouth when you bite into it. Consider that they're using higher quality cheese/ham, it's a more balanced bite instead of a gluttonous, dirty affair. Their other baked goods are also decadent but personal sized, so you won't feel guilty unless you often get more than one ... between the banana bread (dense and fluffy), cinnamon sugar donut (airy), and coffee cake (also dense and fluffy); just get the one that you're in the mood for. This is an excellent bakery will delicious pastries and breakfast food. However, I must criticize their dog policy. They do not allow dogs inside, which is totally fine, except their Yelp info section says that they allow dogs. I've attached receipts to prove this. This is my pet peeve (pun intended) when places have "dogs allowed" on their info sections, but actually don't allow dogs or they only allow dogs in specific areas and are not clear about their polices on their website or any social media that I can check ahead of time. Again, if I read that they don't allow dogs, I wouldn't bring mine, so they need to change that on their Yelp info page, because Redondo Beach is a large dog community, so I can't be the only one who doesn't bring their dogs with them everywhere. The other thing I'll criticize is their front screen door. It doesn't have a door closer or weighted spring on it, so the door just slams hard every time people go in and out. I realize this is a silly thing to rant about, because this doesn't seem to bother anyone else, but I notice these kinds of details and it's such a simple thing to improve. read more

Krust has amazing pastries and breakfast options! The little chocolate cakes with the molten center are the best chocolate cake I've ever had. The lemon tarts are also great. Avocado toast is heaven. The spinach quiche however is my absolute favorite thing ever! Please just keep the regular large quiche with slices. This is my only complaint- they have switched back and forth between individual quiches and the large quiches a few times, and the normal sliced quiche is much, much better! read more

It's really just a display counter with a little indoor seating area in the back. It's located on a somewhat fast moving stretch of PCH with a lot of other shopping options nearby. I can't put my finger on why the bacon and egg croissant was so good (maybe because the egg was cooked so well or maybe they used a high quality cheese?), but it was better than the sum of its parts. The egg tart was interesting. It was good but not what I was expecting when I bit into it. It uses something like a light pizza dough, and it is very bread forward. The bacon cheddar scone was very good. It was scone-like without being too dry. And the flavors were subtle without being too doughy. The strawberry waffle was very nice. Met up with a friend for a late brunch and I spied the quiche and custard doughnut at first glance. I stuck to my intuition and I was glad I made great choices. We split both to try both savory and sweet options. The slice of quiche is $6 and it's a generous sized piece. Apparently, it's popular because another patron came in and ordered two to go. The spinach quiche was delicious with a flaky crust which wasn't too thick and the egg was fluffy, not dense. I can see why this is a popular item. The custard doughnut was so good too! It wasn't too sweet or greasy and had just the right amount of custard which also wasn't too sweet either which I personally prefer. The doughnut texture itself was more al dente with just a little denser texture than a typical soft yeast doughnut. The only gluten-free option was a granola bar. I tried the coffee black and it was really good with no bitter aftertaste. Service was good, and just a slight cultural barrier but not enough to deter me from coming back. The decor was tasteful, cozy with both sofa and benches with cushions. I loved the palm leaves wall paper! We sat outside which only has two tables. It was a very pleasant day. Parking is free as Krust is located in a mini strip mall with a parking lot rather than metered street parking. You might miss this place as the sign is tiny and quite utilitarian.
