I usually go to 76 next to Koko Marina Shopping Center for my safety check because my whole family has been going there for years. I stopped by this morning and they said they can't take anymore today and I'd have to come back tomorrow... So I asked if there were anywhere else I could go because I need to take care of my registration today and they said I would have to go into town...like Kaimuki? And he said yeah. Maybe he wanted me to come back tomorrow because of business but if someone has been loyal for years, are you really going to make them go into town? So I googled safety checks and this place showed up and it's right in Kalama Valley less than 5 min away. They were very kind and accommodating! He even explained what he had to do before mine and the wait time is shorter than what I'm used to and there's a Thai restaurant right next door that I'm having lunch at right now. read more

Not sure why this place has good reviews. Maybe a good place for safety checks? Took my car in on Wednesday was told they'd look at it tomorrow or Friday. Called on Friday, he seemed annoyed that I was asking about my car. They said they'd look at it that afternoon or Monday. I didn't want to "bother" them again so I had my husband call on Tuesday. They told him what was wrong but never gave an estimate even after he asked. Just "you're lucky it's less than a grand. My guys are saving you $600 bc they saved some of the parts". So was it going to be $100? Or $900? Because that's a huge difference. Eventually got my car back on Thursday, over a week after it was dropped off. They fixed one problem but created another. Went to a different mechanic in town and they were perplexed about me having new brakes but installed incorrectly. Sure my brakes were now "working", but driving with them became a hazard to me and my children. Asked neighbors in the area what they thought of the shop. Consensus seems to be, do yourself a favor and take your car somewhere else. Unfortunately, learned that lesson on my own. read more

Fast service this is maybe the 3rd time I've been. Recommended by a friend. Usually come for safety check related stuff. It also doubles as a post office substation? Weird but convenient? And its a Poke Stop for you PoGo players. I do wish there was more in this shopping center for us customers to have a few minutes to kill when waiting on service especially if I were do something longer than safety checks but that's not KT's fault. Currently open is HiDentity (surf shop) and Thai Valley Cuisine (also a cross fit but hours seem to be 8:30 to 9:30am and 5:00-6:30pm with a random 5:30am thrown in now and then). Made a 8am appointment for a simple oil change. Called 3hrs after to see if the car was ready, but instead I got a frustrated worker with a vague approximate time that it would be finished. 6hrs later I show up just to find out they haven't even started on the car yet. No courtesy phone call to say they were busy or even an apology. From the first interaction, I felt like I was bothering them. 7hrs waiting for a oil change. Maybe it was a bad day for them and they were slammed. However, communication is key. read more

I can already hear him saying "I knew it" but I'm afraid I have to give this place a bad review. Four months ago I called to see if they would install a clutch in my 06 Mustang. I had intended to do the job myself, but decided to have the parts I'd already purchased installed by someone else. He reluctantly agreed, after telling me he'd have to charge double the labor rate because I supplied the parts. He said he was short staff due to an injury and would take 3 days. Fine. I understand. 5 days later my car is "Ready" but they tell me my shifter has too much play due to "Bad bushings". So much play that it's extremely difficult to engage reverse. I talk to the guy that did the work and he tells me to change the bushings and it'll be ok. I order said bushings from Steeda and install them, no bueno, same problem. Picked up a new stock shifter from Tasca auto parts, when I go to install it I find the end of the shift rail broken off inside the u joint. This is what was causing the play. It wasn't like that when I brought it in. Tremec T-5 WC. The clutch works perfect, so I can't complain about that, but I won't be back. read more

Made an appointment for a safety check. Dropped my car off and waited for four hours. When I came back he still hadn't done it. He told me to wait. When he finally got to me, he told me a printed form of insurance card wasn't accepted. Could have told me this when I dropped the car off or called me. What a waste of time! Being a Kalama Valley resident, I was stoked to find this place!! It is hard to see from the road but it's conveniently located in the shopping center next to Thai Valley. Lots of parking and no crowds. I didn't want to write a review to avoid attracting more people for selfish reasons but these guys deserve it :) I was a walk-in for my Honda's first oil change. I was greeted by a very friendly lady at the front desk who was able to set me up with the service right away. The office looked clean and inviting with lots of comfortable chairs in the waiting area. There is also a great surf shop next door if you're looking for kill time. I live close by, so I dropped off my car and walked home. Keoki gave me a call when my car was ready. He was very professional and friendly when I met him in person too. I had my car back within 2 hours which is really fast considering I didn't have an appointment. I had free time today but I'll probably make an appointment next time. I wish I went to Keoki before I was overcharged and taken advantage of at all the other places! I can't believe how much they charge at the other places (cough jiffy lube, cough 76 cough everywhere else). Keoki is a straight forward, no BS kind of guy. I was worried at how much it was going to cost and he gave me a call before he worked on it to let me know in advance how much it was going to be. Other places don't take the time out to let you know and will just slap you with a huge bill. Everything is double and triple checked by Keoki himself so you can be sure it is up to the highest standards. I also love the location and the hours! I got turned down from another gas station near KTs due to having Amber colored fog lamps. First of all, we don't need fog lamps in Hawaii so I don't know why I was docked for that. Second, KTs actually called the DMV for me and asked. Turns out the other station was wrong, you can have any color other than blue, but they were too lazy to check. In other words, KTs provides excellent customer service. They were quick, thorough, and polite. He did my safety check for me, no problems. The entire staff was polite, honest, and they also helped me out with another vehicle related issue. KTs is fairly priced and they are upfront and honest. Anyone who has dealt with repair shops knows how hard it is to find an honest mechanic. KTs is a one stop shop for all of your vehicle needs. Disclaimer: This review is coming from a Redskins fan. KT's was recommended to me by a friend after I mentioned I was tired of being ripped off at 76 Hawaii Kai. I needed an oil change, an inspection, and my AC wasn't blowing cold. I knew from previous experience that 76 charges $179 only to recharge the AC (they're criminals) so I decided to give KTs a shot. Walking up I see Dallas Cowboys stuff everywhere. Annoying. But whatever. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Plus the price blows 76 out of the water. My engine light turned on recently and I wanted to have a mechanic give my car a look. To my dismay, I learned that auto shops in Hawaii Kai do charge a steep cost for a simple diagnostic check. For example, the 76 in Hawaii Kai told me they will charge well over a hundred dollars for a diagnostic check. Luckily, a friend of mine told me about Keoki. Thank goodness he did. I called him up and he told me he could look at my car for $30. He told me he could give me the results before I had to go to work and he wasn't lying. I dropped my car off during the morning and around 45 minutes later, he handed me a sheet with the diagnostic codes saying that one of my O2 sensors was acting up. Before I could pay, he told me that the check was on him since he believes that mechanics shouldn't price gouge customers. Keoki is quick, professional and most importantly an honest mechanic. Although he is a nice guy, they tend to rip you off!!! I have taken my cars in there several times, and they usually fix them good. He says he's giving you a 10% discount, but what they don't tell you is they do work that wasn't discussed or approved. Or they charge you more for the parts thatn you could buy them for at any auto parts store. Be aware of repairs, ask them to call you for your approval of anything added on. AC stopped working on my 2011 Ford. Made a knocking noise and would only blow cold every few minutes. They replaced a valve and recharged it for $400 and said it was good to go, even though the knocking noise persisted. It blew cold for 2 days and then back to hot air. I'm so disappointed in this shop. Charged me $100 more than retail for the part replaced, as priced by OReilly auto parts, and $125/hr labor. A grand total of $125 MORE than the price I was just quoted from the dealership for the same work. Dealerships are supposed to be the most expensive option for vehicle repairs, especially a 10 year old car. Not true in Hawaii Kai, just go to KT to spend all your money. Part replacement was done correctly, in a timely and courteous manner. Just shocked at the price. read more
