    Chicken and veggies
    Chris P.

I like to order lots of veggies and chicken for lunch. Chicken is very tender and flavorful. Menu states 2 lbs of food and I believe it. Always enough for take home for another meal. Comes with rice and tea for $12.50.

Egg flower soup from combo dinner to go style.

We did takeout this evening and were highly impressed. Only 15 minutes for pickup. The combo dinners are massive and delicious. The serving sizes will easily result in leftovers! The crab rangoons are phenomenal. The pork fried rice was a tad on the dry side, but the only thing that was a little off.

Sichuan Taste was a perfect pit stop on a road trip from the South Bay up to Seattle. We rolled…read morethrough Portland and stopped for a few plates, and everything punched way above a typical highway stop. The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

I walked in excited, but I can't say that I felt the same way walking out. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this self serve hot pot. Let me walk you through my experience. I walked into a nearly empty restaurant and was greeted promptly. I was excited to see that the place was clean, well decorated, and had a simple drink, appetizer, and broth menu on the TV screens. I mentioned to the host that it was our first time here and that we would need some instructions. He just pointed out that the bowls are here, get your ingredients there, and pay over there. I was expecting a warmer welcome than that, but oh well, I dismissed it since I'm aware of the structure and he was young. The ingredients were neatly placed in containers that were well maintained. They seemed to be kept up with the supply and demand. However, I can easily see the cross contamination between raw meats and vegetables because there weren't additional tongs available to keep the ingredients separated, except for the one tong I was holding. Since all the food will be cooked together, I guess it would be fine...? We walked back and forth multiple times around the ingredients, not because there were too many to choose from, but because there was not enough variety. I was hoping there would be more noodles or more Asian green veggies to pick from, instead of broccoli, lettuce, or cauliflower. I do not feel like there was anything exciting or unique about their ingredients for me to rave about. Once we were done adding ingredients to our bowl, we went up to the register to weigh our food. It was $14.99 per pound for the first 5 soup flavors which were Classic Ma La Tang, Beef Bone, Rich Tomato, Mushroom, and Spicy Szechuan Dry Mix, and $16.99 for the Hot and Spicy Szechuan Dry Pot. I picked my broth and paid, then sat down and waited for my meal. Food did not take long for them to bring out; however, my soup did not come out hot. Was I expecting it to be boiling hot? No. But hot enough for all my food to be cooked well so I don't get sick. If you want a comparison, if you have ever eaten pho at a restaurant, the soup is hot. Well, my soup at Big Hey Hot Pot was not as hot as the pho soup. One thing that I was happy about was the sauce bar. They had everything you can imagine, such as sesame sauce, soy sauce, spicy sauce, hoisin sauce, garlic, onion, chopped green onion, cilantro, and peanuts. This sauce bar was unlimited and did not count towards your weight. I went back multiple times to get more sauce. Overall, this was not as satisfying as I thought it would be. I wish I had better service, more variety of ingredients to pick from, and hotter soup. Plenty of parking. Cards accepted. I will not be back.

Prices are aligned with other offerings and average overall. +1 that it's the same owners of Tasty Corner, which I'm a big fan of as well for Szechuan. I will definitely come back for my dry pot cravings.

Typically at most Chinese restaurants, especially fried dishes, you'll see a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. Their service is always fast and friendly. There is a gentleman in glasses that is always happy to serve and answer your questions. He is always happy to pack your food for you to go if you have leftovers as well, which is a lovely gesture. They have very cute decorations inside, from lucky cats with fortune cookies in their mouths, or a painted wall with a Panda cooking delicious food. I'd steer clear from their soup dishes, most of them lack flavor. I highly recommend their Chopped Pepper Fish and their Jade Tofu items though. Very flavorful and not very heavy! The Mongolian beef and Kung Pao chicken were both excellent, but my one critique is the way the dried red chilies are chopped up and mixed in. I like heat, but chewing tough dried chili pieces isn't pleasant. Leaving the peppers whole, like many Chinese restaurants do, would let customers push them aside while still enjoying the spice. Rice portions are generous and cooked perfectly. The wonton soup was very good. I wouldn't mind a bit more baby bok choy, but the dumplings tasted fresh and house-made, and the filling was flavorful. Service was friendly and felt authentic. I noticed some lower reviews mentioning checkout confusion, but there's a bit of a language barrier, which is understandable and honestly adds to the authenticity rather than detracting from it. Easy access off 82nd in Portland. The surrounding area isn't my favorite, but the food itself is absolutely worth the stop.
