The online menu was impossible to read so I couldn't tell that the eggplant I was ordering was fried, but despite being breaded with breading thicker than the breading on a corn dog it tasted good.... about 20 minutes after eating, however, my husband and I got sick and we spent the rest of the night either curled in a ball or on the toilet. I've driven past Kuang's many, many times over the years as I live not too far away and often driven along Capitol Highway near PCC. Tonight I finally tried the food as I stopped by to order a dish to go. I'm sorry to say I won't be back. The restaurant says it's Mandarin Szechuan food, which itself makes no sense. Mandarin is a language; Szechuan is a province and a type of cuisine. Anyway, I ordered the Szechuan Garlic Chicken with Bell Peppers and Onions. On the plus side, the peppers were fresh, the onions were decently cooked, and there was plenty of chicken and vegetables. The problem? The peppers had zero flavor, the onions had a slight flavor of the sauce, and the chicken did have the sauce's flavor. But the sauce had ZERO Szechuan flavor. There was absolutely no hint of Szechuan brown sauce or the Szechuan peppers which are the basis of the sauce. ZERO. I've only once tasted so-called Szechuan food that was worse. Essentially I had some stir-fried veggies with chicken in a slightly sweet, somewhat thin, sauce that was not, and I repeat, not Szechuan. If you're unfamiliar with true Szechuan food or simply like decent stir-fry veggies, this is okay. But, if you want Szechuan food, stay away from Kuang's. By the way, I also asked for it to be spicier. Szechuan peppers would have taken care of that. But what they did was sprinkle some hot pepper on it and threw in a few jalapenos. Right. I have lived in the Tigard area for 30 years. We use to go to Hi Hat for our Chinese food fix. And was disappointed when they closed. Then we turned to the Chinese food place in Downtown Tigard. But it was just OK. I asked my neighbor one day about places he liked in the area. And he told me about Kuang's Kitchen. We tried it tonight. WOW, The BBQed pork was moist. String Bean Pork was very flavorful with just the right ratio, pork to beans was on point and great flavor. 10 ingredient Fried Rice had everything. All portions, ( To-Go) were huge. I am still searching for a great neighborhood Chinese restaurant. This one is getting close, but still not quite there. Definitely Chinese-American style here. We've been twice now. First time we ate there and enjoyed the friendly service. They were pretty fast too. Second time I got take out. I called my order in and it was waiting for me when I got there 20 minutes later. Their food is good, imo, but not amazingly great. They certainly give large portions, so you feel like you're getting your money's worth. Over our 2 visits, we tried the dry sauteed string beans with almonds, Mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken, and Pork with tangy sauce. They seem to be pretty heavy-handed with the Five Spice powder. We really did not care for the General Tso's - it was fried, and heavy with sweet red sauce that overwhelmingly tasted of Five Spice. Which I like a lot, just not THAT much. We noticed it in the Pork with tangy sauce too, but it wasn't quite as strong. The pork had a lot of julienned veggies and a lot of sauce. Mongolian beef is pretty tasty, but it's pretty oily. And they over-tenderized the beef, more than I prefer at least. The beef had a lot of sliced onions too, but good flavor, though not hot. Green beans were again the best of the dishes we tried, but I had to add a little salt. The almonds are a different touch, and I kind of like it. On all of these, I ordered them extra spicy. Didn't happen. I guess they are just catering to the American palate. If it sounds like I didn't like Kuang's Kitchen, you're wrong. It's good, and I'd go there again because it's not too far away for me, but I'm not going to crave this stuff. read more

A friend/co worker brought me here a week ago and I really enjoyed their food here. I ordered their #4 on their dinner combo section but I asked to substitute their noodles for white rice. $10.50 includes; Beef and broccoli, sweat and sour chicken, rice egg roll and soup. Can't beat that price!! Super affordable and it comes with soooo much food. It taste good, always hot and fresh, fast service and decent space restaurant. My first time was over a week ago and Ive already made a visit back yesterday and brought a friend and she enjoyed it as well. Speaking for their combo plates. I was so excited when this restaurant opened near my house. I really miss the old vegan Chinese place that was here previously and hoped to have a good option, more for my husband, who loves Chinese food than for myself. Admittedly, I don't love Chinese food, so this review is based on his experience more than my own. We ordered some take out. The dish was a oily and made my husband sick. He did say it tasted fine. The rice that he got though, which I believe was meant to be plain white rice, was fried and contained shrimp. While this might seem like the ultimate bonus for some, I'm allergic to shrimp. I wasn't eating the take out and wouldn't have necessarily taken a bite of fried rice without checking it, but some people might. We haven't returned. read more

The lady that helped me and the chef were both extremely friendly and the restaurant was spotless. The price was very reasonable and the quantity of food you get is crazy! We could have totally fed a family of 4 with two combinations. I wasn't expecting anything gourmet considering the price and proximity to the community college but I was pleasantly surprised. The chow mein, General tsos chicken and stir fried chicken were all delicious! The food tasted fresh and easily surpassed my expectations. The broccoli was fine but the beef itself was chewy, had a gross soggy texture. Kung pow chicken should have some sort of crunch or sear, and it like the beef, was chewy mush that was not spicy like the menu indicated. Overall, I'd rather starve than to call this Szechuan food. The menu is full of the classics of the cuisine; the portions are huge and the prices are low. However, the food is legitimately tasty, always fresh and flavorful. The soups are some of the best I've ever tried. The owners are very kind people, always cheerful and welcoming. We had sweet & sour soup, spring rolls, sauteed green beans and beef, sauteed snow peas and water chestnuts, and Muu Shu pork with regular white rice and fried rice, plus oolong tea. Excellent food, large portions (enough for over 2 meals each for the two of us), and very reasonable prices: $11.50 per entry. Lunch prices are even better at $7.50 per entry. The business owner's wife was very friendly and sat down to talk with us once we finished our meal. She even gave us a free pint of sweet and sour soup as we left. Regarding the main meals, nothing stand-out and nothing offensive. It was all rather bland, Americanized food. A bit too Cantonese-style for me, even though it claims to be Szechaun style. But oh my, the portions were huge! Service: 2/5: The place was COMPLETELY overwhelmed. I think they only had two people: the chef and the other person who: answered phone orders, prepped orders, waited tables, and took payments. She managed to remain positive, but wow was she overworked. And it made the wait for our food tremendously slow, plus things came from the kitchen out of order and bulked together. Location: 3/5: Hey, it was clean and bright. I'm probably being generous with the rating, but that's very important to me. It is not large, the door lets in lots of cold blasts of air, and it's located in a tiny strip with only two other stores and really nothing else around. But it has some parking. My husband and I went there reading some of the great reviews but we were utterly disappointed. We had ordered the schezwan garlic chicken and the curry shrimp with onions and bell peppers. When the food arrived, there was no shrimp. Both dishes were with chicken. We let it go thinking the food would be good but we were served with another dismality. The curry 'shrimp' smelled strongly of uncooked curry powder, was flavorless and the chicken was all mushy. The other dish tasted sweet and orangy. I had no clue why the name schezwan was used for it. All in all, we were not impressed. I don't think we would be going back there. read more
