Holy Moly Lobster Macaroni!! I love Kula Bistro. It's tucked away up country but worth the drive or a convenient place to stop when coming down the hill after visiting Haleakala. I've been a handful of times and have always had a good experience. We stopped in last night for dinner. Walk ins only- no reservations. We were seated right away for just the two of us. If you have a larger party you may need to wait for a bit to be seated. We ordered their house salad to start. The fresh local greens were delicious. It was a generous portion that could easily serve 4 people as a side. For dinner I ordered the lobster mac. In my mind I pictured plain old Mac n cheese with lobster chunks in it (think Ruth Chris). When it got to the table my jaw dropped. A whole lobster tail was on top of some rigatoni pasta, covered in light but creamy cheese sauce. it also had spinach, bacon bits and cherry tomato mixed in. OMG SO GOOD. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. The portion size was very generous and I had some to take home. I appreciated that the cheese was not too over powering and didn't cause any rumble in my tummy. My other half got the prime rib. Also a generous portion. It came with grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, au jus and horseradish cream. They have a giant pastry/dessert case full of yummy treats you can choose from. We took a slice of cheesecake home for dessert. Delish. It's BYOB. Bring your own beer or wine, just no hard liquor. There is a mom & pop shop just across the street with a decent wine selection. They provide glasses for you. Not sure if they charged a corking fee. Overall great experience. Huge portions, yummy food and chill but cozy atmosphere. Parking can be a little difficult when they are busy.

We love Kula Bistro. We first came here years ago when it was a bit more of a casual cafe with a case full of cakes and very simple inexpensive cuisine with minimal decor or frills. The food was scrumptious - so flavorful and simple with good flavor combinations. Now, it has gotten a makeover and a price adjustment. It is quite a bit pricier than ever before. The sandwiches are still reasonable and delicious, but other items just seemed too pricey to venture. Service was great as always. Mama J was sweet and fun. This is still a great spot, but the occasion has shifted from a casual quick drop in to a seated meal that you want to make time to enjoy.

Made in just in time before breakfast time was over. Something that has been on the list for a while but I struggle to wake up for. Cute little restaurant which was pretty spacious inside. The place was packed in the morning and parking was a bit of work to find. Very clean little cute decor for the holiday. The service was great the waitress serving us was sweet and the food came out in a good amount of time. Getting into the food pretty big portions. And presentation is well done. I got a loco moco which good the mushrooms and onions were cooked well and the gravy was good. The patty was okay for me not the most flavorful. I got a side of friend rice which was flavorful but just alright for me. I got to try the chicken 8 waffles and the waffles were great and I enjoyed the mochiko chicken flavor wise on the gingery side. I wish they did have more syrup that was on the chicken. Overall a good time & a little fun trip out of towns

Prime rib on sourdough with fries and pickle slices

Delicious, but pricy. It was $173+ for four of us, no drinks, no appetizers, no dessert. And we didn't even have the most expensive entrees. It is a lovely little place on a side road in Kula. We were lucky that it was an unusually quiet evening, so we were able to park in front and only had to wait a few minutes for a table. It's pretty inside and I was happy that there is space between the tables. They didn't try to cram in too much. The kitchen has enough work already for how many tables they have because everything is made fresh. Please note, this means you might need to wait a bit longer for your food. The menu is large. There are daily specials and a keiki menu. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The chairs are metal and I wished for something with a bit of padding as sitting on an unyielding chair was tough on a body riddled with a lot of osteoarthritis. Portions are large. I had the prime rib sandwich with skin-on, seasoned fries and pickle slices on the side. (There was another side option besides fries, but I can't remember what.) I barely finished the sandwich and needed help with the fries. (Others were happy to help out.) There was a deli case with many different kinds of desserts. Initially I had my eyes on some of the dessert offerings but after all that food, I was stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. It would be a great place for a date. If you tend to get cold, bring a sweater or jacket. You can bring your own wine.

What can I say but WOW. Yes I used capitals cause I was yelling. I thought "where in the hidden neighborhood of out of the way boondocks" are we going but was I impressed, heck to the yeah. Loco moco, yeah I know what you are going to say, what can u do with a loco moco to make it bomb. Well you didn't try this one right? Ok then don't make me force you to try it cause you will be happy. Unless you don't eat meat then well I'm sorry. Check the pic, you won't be disappointed. The crab eggs Benedict was my daughter's choice and it was the bomb. Perfectly crabby and not too crabby and the potatoes were great too. Check the pic. My wife had the Mac nut pancakes (not pictured) and it was 3 huge cakes. Don't order 3, just get one and share entrees with your fams, it's a lot and you will have leftovers if u order 3. Unless you are a competitive eater then you do 3 bro. The place is clean and well kept. We went on an off time but I am pretty sure this place gets packed. There seemed to be seating outside if that is your jam and the inside seating was AC. The bathroom was clean and the parking is on the side of the building, which it seemed to be a bunch of them. If you are full and want to walk. Check out the store across the street and take a pic with the OG post office window. Don't even ask, I will be back!!!!!

Best place in Kula for a great get together with friends and family. Their portions are generous, food is always fresh and delicious, Service is excellent! Eli was our server today. He's the best!!! Friendly, charming and professional. He recommended the special: meatloaf with roasted vegetables. Wow!!! It was so delicious! Big enough to share (of take the rest home for dinner) The salad are always fresh. They actually have a garden right there! The fish is fresh. Lobster mac and cheese... not to be missed!

We celebrated a birthday with brunch here. The food was amazing as usual. Large tasty portions with something for everyone on the menu. The service is always fast and super friendly. This place is constantly good and definitely worth the drive from town.

Macadamia encrusted mahi mahi.

Our favorite go to in Maui. You have to buy the wine across the street at the grocery store but they do have non alcoholic to order. I had the chicken alfredo and the missus had macadamia encrusted mahi mahi. Both excellent. Get the side order of bread because the garlic butter is out of this world.

Side of Fries

Had lunch today and Benny was our server. We got professional service with Aloha. Shared the Turkey Panini which came with Caesar Salad. Ordered fries on the side. It was delicious and filling. Tried the Seasonal Dessert- S'more's Ice Cream Pie. Yum! There is indoor and outdoor seating available. It is one of our favorite restaurants for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. When in Kula, Maui must try!

Ask the Community - Kula Bistro

Do you sell alcohol or is it BYOB?

It's BYOB. There is a store across the street with some selection of wine, beer, and sake. We will open and provide glasses. NO cork fee.

Do they offer curb side?

They have outside patio dining.

Is breakfast served at lunchtime?

Breakfast hours are, 7:30am-10:30am. Their Lunch/Dinner menu is served between 11am and 8pm. All information and menus (except for daily specials) are available on their beautiful website.

Do they have vegetarian options?

I believe they did but I would recommend looking at their menu to be certain. I had breakfast there and they definitely had amazing pancakes that were vegetarian.

This visit felt really different. Today we brought family visiting from off-island after a walk on Thompson Road. We decided to stay and dine in instead of taking it to go. Looking back... maybe takeout would've been the better option. Ugh. I honestly hate writing this. The only reason I am is because I'm hoping someone from the Grandmas team reads this and actually cares enough to make some changes. If you don't know, you can't grow. Today our experience looked like this: * Watching several people get served after us even though we ordered first. Waiting for almost 30 minutes. * Our order getting mixed up and handed to the wrong person * Confusion about what muffins were available... okay fine, I'll take a blueberry muffin. Then halfway through eating it, I found a hair baked into it * Ordering potatoes without onions because of an allergy, having it made wrong twice, and needing it redone * Noticing the restaurant itself looked like it could use a deep cleaning, including ceiling fans with layers of dust And maybe this was just an off day, but the staff vibe felt... off too. Disconnected. Kind of cliquey. Like everyone seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving guests. The warm, welcoming feeling Grandmas always had just didn't feel like it was there today. As a customer, I honestly felt like I was intruding or inconveniencing the staff just by being there, and that's a really strange feeling in a place we've loved for so long. That's honestly the part that made me the most disappointed. We've loved Grandmas for years, which is why this was tough. After reading several other reviews, it seems others may have had similar experiences too. I really hope things improve and staff morale lifts, because as customers, we feel it. Mahalo for reading. I truly hope this helps and leads to positive changes.

Marlow is a lively spot with an open kitchen that makes the whole experience feel energetic and welcoming. Definitely make a reservation. We ran into a delay getting up the hill due to a downed utility pole and messaged through the OpenTable app. Eden, who was hosting that night (and we later learned also serves), immediately called us, walked us through the menu, and even got our order started so we wouldn't hold up service. She was incredibly knowledgeable and set the tone for the evening with genuine hospitality. At the bar, Jesse, our bartender, took great care of us. From the drink menu, he made an excellent Black Cherry Manhattan with Burning Chair bourbon, Cocchi di Torino, cherry, and Angostura bitters--smooth, balanced, and delivered tableside. We also enjoyed a bottle of Gamay wine, which paired beautifully with the food and rounded out the meal. For dinner: * Mafaldine Bolognese (Lopes Farm beef, gremolata, parm - dinner only) was rich and comforting. My wife loved it. * Steak Tagliata (horseradish crème fraîche, herb verde - dinner only) was cooked perfectly and full of flavor--my dad cleaned his plate. * I had the Funghi white pie with local mushrooms, mozzarella, garlic confit, and parmigiano, and it was outstanding--earthy, balanced, and satisfying. Dessert capped things off nicely, and by the end of the night we were happily full. A special shoutout to Kira, our server--kind, fun, and professional. It was neat finding out she's also a Maui High grad, from a different generation, but with that same local pride and warmth that makes dining in Hawaiʻi special. Big mahalo to the kitchen crew--you can feel the care and teamwork in every dish. Payment was easy using Toast, which we appreciated. All around, Marlow delivers thoughtful food, great cocktails, and genuine hospitality. It's wonderful to have a fun, lively, open-kitchen restaurant in Upcountry Maui. We'll absolutely be back.

This was about 6:00 pm for dinner. The vibe is casual but trendy. A buzz of activity was going on. Everything we tried was just bursting with flavors! We started out with the meatballs which were as good as grandma's, who made the best, of course. I would categorize them as "Memorable Meatballs". The sauce that came with them (2 of them) was perfect in every way. The chopped salad was large enough for three people and was fresh and delicious. The dressing was a great complimentary addition to the greens. The braised pork pizza was over the top good. Just the right amount of char on a sourdough crust and a sauce that was just full of flavor. The Lilikoi butter provided a bright spot on the tomato palate. This I believe, helps make this pizza unique. The prawns were large and you get six. They tasted great , soaked in chimichurri . They would be perfect with just a little less salt and a bit more garlic. Mushrooms in crème fraiche, just outstanding. Note that the emphasis is on the sauce, not the mushrooms. For dessert was the gelato with fennel pollen, honey, olive oil, and sea salt. This is an absolute must to try, it's divine. The Panna cotta is rich and silky, nicely done. There is a decorative crumble on top that adds a little crunch and gives the dish a good presentation. There are some sweet floral notes in the custard, most likely cardamom. The ginger fizz drink is very good with a nice ginger kick without tasting like ginger ale. A well constructed mocktail. The vibe in the morning is about a 180 degree turn about. There is no table service, not busy enough. Order at the counter. The cheerful night time ladies have been replaced by a solitary glum teen who is not happy and maybe don't even like the people she has to deal with in the morning. She is efficient though. Nevertheless, the quiche was great. Great flavor, great crust, interesting top glaze that was different from any I've seen. The latte featured the same topping of fennel pollen, etc. that was on the gelato last night. Pretty amazing version of a latte. My suggestion, to make it perfect, is to order it with an extra shot in a large ceramic cup. The bathroom here is clean and I never encountered a line.

We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree.
