Good ambience, beautiful view and beautiful garden. The service was basic. We ask for a Gin and Tonic and they brought something else (club soda and gin). I asked for a burrata and they brought half burrata and half tomato . The presentation was absolutely horrible. My husband had papardelle ( wide noodles) with burnt stew . If I could give 6 stars I would! The scenery, the food, the service ... this place is so special. Came here with our 11 year old and 14 year old boys and they had a great time. The wood fire pizza, homemade banana bread, bruschetta with homemade bread, loco moco with pickled onions, eggs Benedict, puff pastry sweet Maui onion soup, Bloody Mary's .... All in the most amazing setting with expansive views of Kahalui harbor and bay )where the cruise ships port) in the upcountry area heading towards Haleakala, Fountains, foliage, flowers, herb gardens and hungry (but cute) finches. It is like a fairy tail here and totally worth the 30-40 minute drive from Kihei area. We sat outside in one of seven gazebo covered huts. Inside the lodge, you can dine and have cocktails while watching the sunset from the giant windows that look out over the same view as if you were outside. We've visited Maui a few times but only experienced this place for the first time. We will tell everyone we know about this hidden gem! If you're looking for a beautiful location for a meal, this is it. It's perfect for a meal on your way up or down the mountain. If you sit outside, it's worth asking if they have a cushion available. Definitely makes sitting on the cement much more comfortable. The food is overall good - on our recent visit, we had pizzas, a burger, the fish sandwich, the chicken and waffles, and the Maui onion soup. The added bonus of the chicken and waffles being gluten free was awesome. Initially, our server was awesome. She was nice, efficient and knew the menu well. Everyone enjoyed their meal, but my complaint with the soup is that it wasn't hot. The busser brought our food and the waitress didn't check on us, we had to bring the soup to her. She saw us coming up the stairs and met us, but obviously also had tables inside which was tough to split the time. She apologized profusely and immediately handed us a soup that came out of the oven, but didn't come back to check on it and it was the same issue as the first one. It's obvious that they didn't broil the cheese on the soup before they put the puff pastry in the oven. As a result, both bowls were lukewarm and the slice of cheese was just on top of the soup under the puff pastry, not melted. For $16 for a bowl of soup, it was disappointing. Temperature wise, I let my kid try it without even needing to blow on it. Thankfully everyone else enjoyed their meal. Overall, I'd really say this is a solid 3.5 stars but we can't give half stars. Since the last time we came, the prices literally doubled up and the amount and quality of food was halved. We spent $70 for a breakfast (2 meal and 2 coffee) and we were still starving! My cevice was ok, but lacking in flavor. I asked to sub the fries because I was on a diet, they gave me bread with butter! So I had to give it to my husband who was starving as well. I didn't want to complain since the waitress was kind, but the small bowl (with a lot of sauce that tasted like yogurt, coconut cilantro and ginger, interesting combo but somehow not really great) wasn't filling at all. We arrived at 2:30 but the restaurant only had bar service, with happy hour at 4:00 PM. It's hard to rate this place as more than three stars as we only had beer and wine. We have yet to try the food. Our maitre'd was a little brusque in response to our questions about menu, seating, lunch service, but it could be he was tired from the lunch shift. The bartenders were very friendly. Their wine selection was immense, with a range of wines by the glass from $9 to $22, which I thought was nice. I had the Ochetti Nebbiolo ($14/glass) but was not a fan, and much preferred the Chappellet Mountain Cuvee ($22/glass). They had a huge selection of wine bottles to choose from, ranging from double to triple digits in price. It is likely this would be a good place for anyone who enjoys wine with their meal. The bathrooms are in need of a little updating but were clean. I over heard more than one couple or patron appreciate the existence of the Kula lodge, as they sat at the bar. One reminisced about the fireplace, which is not in operation at this time, apparently. This place has some long-time fans. Incredible valley views are available from the dining service side, and the bar side has a lovely stained glass window to admire. We may return to have dinner or brunch some day, to enjoy those valley views, but I'll call in advance to ensure we come during the correct service times. Perfect Post-Haleakala Breakfast at Kula Lodge My girlfriend and I stayed in Kaanapali, but we decided to wake up at 2 a.m. to catch the sunrise at Haleakala Summit. It was an incredible experience, but by the time 8:30 a.m. rolled around, we were starving! We wanted to find the best possible breakfast to reward ourselves after the early morning adventure, and to our surprise, Kula Lodge was the perfect spot, located right along our drive down from the mountain. The breakfast at Kula Lodge was hands down the best we had during our entire stay in Maui. The food was delicious and satisfying--exactly what we needed after an exhausting (but amazing) morning. Aside from the great food, the views from the restaurant were absolutely stunning. Because of its elevation on Mount Haleakala, you get a breathtaking panoramic view of the island while you eat. For anyone returning from the Haleakala sunrise or just in the area, I highly recommend stopping at Kula Lodge. Wow!! I loved this place! Outstanding food, views, and service! Coming in I didn't expect much but I was very pleased with the seating first of all. Outside there are 6 little gazebos that have an amazing view to basically a jungle. The menu caught my eye with a very fun meal of Shakshuka!! I ordered it and was not disappointed. The flavors all combine so well together and compliment each other very well. The bread that comes along with it is very fresh and yummy. The main thing I loved was the epic view and how they make the pizzas in an oven right infront of you. Our server was also very friendly and helpful in the ordering process. If you're heading to the Haleakala summit, be sure to stop here for a meal. The restaurant seating offers a great view of the West Maui mountains. It's not just about the view--the food is good too. The service was very prompt and they took good care of us. I tried the Hawaiian omelette, while my wife had the Upcountry quiche. Both dishes were delicious, with the quiche being crunchy on the sides and soft in the center. The portions were very filling, so we took a walk near the restaurant to admire the beautiful location and burn off some of the meal. Came here as part of a sunrise tour and I have to say, the views offered at this place are UNBEATABLE. Truly GORGEOUS views everywhere you look! The staff is very friendly though it was busy. Unfortunately to me, the food is super mediocre. I got a loco moco and the patty was dry, the egg was over cooked, and my hot chocolate was basically water with a sprinkle of cocoa powder. My mother got an omelette and have similar things to say. I would not return here for the food, but the views and ambiance was excellent! read more

That was the highlight of our meal. We were seated quickly but they were very slow with getting us our drinks (had to ask twice just for water) and the food took ages. Stopped by here for breakfast after coming down the summit after sunrise. I was very pleasantly surprised as the views, food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. I ordered the Sunrise breakfast, which was simple, but was made very well. I ordered a hot chocolate to go with my breakfast and this was a great choice as I was still warming up from being frozen at the summit at sunrise. We also tried the loco moco, which was ok, but not as tasty as the sunrise breakfast in my opinion. There is also a beautiful garden out back where you can take a free stroll in after breakfast! We had dinner reservations for sunset at the Kula Lodge. When we arrived it was not quite time for our reservation but they were so sweet and let us sit down for Happy Hour. We ordered Brussel sprouts, mai tai's and the Margarita pizza for the kids. The Brussel sprouts did not disappoint. The sauce drizzled on top was so good my kids even ate it. When it was time for our actual reservation, the staff quickly accommodated us by taking our drinks and pizza over to our assigned table. We had a great view of the sunset! Overindulged! The joyful experience of our 36th anniversary dinner will be one that we'll be chasing over and over again! We were overindulged from the moment we sat down at the table with the most beautiful view, surrounded by soothing live music. Immediately upon arriving the staff said happy anniversary & gave us a sweet card. We came to Kula lodge on a recent Maui trip with friends for the four course New Year's Eve dinner, so this review speaks to that and not their typical menu. Overall, Kula lodge is a quaint and very cute place tucked away in the upcountry area. We had a reservation and were seated appropriately, with preference over those that did not make reservations. They sat us at a nice corner by the windows, which allows you to see down the mountain, admiring some fireworks going off. I'm sure it is also beautiful during the daytime for brunch or lunch. They also had a jazz performer on this night setting the mood, which I'm glad we were placed a bit away from so that we could hear it as background noise but still enjoy conversation. The food: As I said, it was four course and for the late seating this was $100 a person, including a champagne toast at midnight. They offered a variety of options for each course, including a vegan option for each. I ordered the butternut squash pesto ravioli, tomato basil soup, New York strip entree, and crème brûlée for dessert. My ravioli was good and probably the most bang for your buck for the first course, as other portion sizes were smaller. The soup was really good and had fresh basil and mozzarella. While the steak was decent and I enjoyed the port reduction glaze, I've definitely had better steak (Nebraska) and amounts for the money. The creme brûlée dessert may have actually been my highlight of the meal. It was huge, topped full with fruit and had great blend of flavor from the custard and caramelized sugar. I think our group mostly enjoyed the food, just some of the portion sizes offered were too small. Unfortunately, service specific to our individual server is where this review takes a hit. He was okay, and it is clear on NYE's eve they were doing a teamwork approach, so others came to fill up our waters, bring food, and take our plates, so we were not neglected. Each course came in a timely fashion but our server was just pretty smug and kinda exhibited an "I don't care" attitude, kinda knowing this is NYE and he will make decent money regardless. He also did forget a round of beers for a significant amount of time and spilled some champagne on my jacket/phone when he poured off to the side of me. We could see another server nearby giving quality service to his patrons and ensuring they enjoyed their time for the special occasion so it was a bit of a bummer that we got stuck with our server which didn't add to the experience. That being said I would still come back here and give this place a try under normal dining conditions. read more

When we got there, we saw that two huts were empty. They told us those are reserved! Of course we told them that we were told there was no reservations. The lady wasn't having it. She was very moody. While trying to figure out if everyone was ok to sit inside instead of the huts, I guess she looked at the reservation again and then she told us the reservation isn't until 1pm. It was still 11:30. She said I just need you guys to be out by 1pm. Of course we agreed to it because we went there for the huts. Food was ok. The pizza was the best. The two stars are actually for the beautiful ambience and the beautiful garden! I would not go there again for the food. But I recommend going there for the pictures. read more

Lovely garden environment surrounding as well. The service was good, especially considering there seemed to be limited staff. Everyone was hustling considering they had to run up and down stairs and inside and outside. The food was just okay. When we were there they were out of all seafood and the pizza oven was not working. That left a limited menu. I had a burger that seemed like it came from a box somewhere. My mom liked the sauce on the pulled pork she had. The food was kinda lukewarm. I saw we went just after there was new ownership so maybe the food will improve later? Today everything is $28-$32. Absolutely insane. A shashuka with no meat..$30. Loco Moco..$32. Even pancakes were like $26. Sure the view was nice but doesn't justify Michelin star dinner prices for a diner breakfast place where the food is just basic. We live 15 minutes away and thought we'd give the restaurant another try. I read that they were under new management. The last time we went was before the pandemic and it was already not good. It seemed that they catered to individuals who would complain that the food was too salty, so everything was under seasoned and had no flavor. We ordered iced tea, POG, a kids cheese pizza, fruit, ceviche, Parmesan garlic fries and crème brûlée. The POG is their own concoction, not the brand. The pizza and ceviche were under seasoned/not flavorful. The fries were way too salty. The crème brûlée was super eggy. Our server (who was very gracious) asked if we were kamaʻāina and offered a discount. I gave her my payment card and ID only to be told that management said that the discount applies to entrees. I acknowledge that dining out is expensive and I'm happy to spend that money if the food is ʻono. I'm super bummed that the food wasn't better. read more
