Amazing ceramic museum and very glad I got a chance to check it out, curtesy of it being free with…read morethe Düsseldorf card! The museum is spread out across two buildings. Towards the left, the first floor has Islamic and Modern ceramic art. The Islamic ceramic is amazing as there is an actual half of a tiled building in the museum! Downstairs is ancient ceramic art from all over the world and beautifully curated, visually striking pieces of not just every day objects, but also art works. Towards the right, the museum is spread over 4 floors, with the first floor being these amazing Delft cutlery sets, and then there was a special Chinese exhibition on the 2nd floor when we were visiting in December 2018. I I learnt that the ceramics that were glazed in yellow were meant for the Chinese Emperor only, and that the glazing of the color of the ceramic food bowls in China provided a visual cure that signified your importance at the Chinese court. This was a very very interesting exhibit, and I learned a lot about Chinese ceramic art. The 3rd floor of this museum had another enormous dining set and some other interesting pieces. However the 4th floor was another beautiful surprise and one of my faves - it's all decorative digital sculptural pieces, and it's not just sculptures depicting men or women, but animals too! The artistry really amazed me and if you only have a limited time to spend in this museum, this floor is where I would suggest you head to. Overall, really beautiful and brilliant and fascinating!
