The food here is pretty decent, but the service we had wasn't. The menu is extensive, living up to the broadness of "Asian" in its name. While the people working were nice and checked in with us many times, the issue was with us receiving our orders. We had a larger party, and expected a longer wait for food, which was fine, but the food came out at different times. By the time the last person got their food, the first few people were already finished eating. For food, I ordered a spicy salmon roll and a salmon skin roll. The fish-to-rice ratio on these was good, pretty typical order. This isn't the best salmon skin roll I've had. The salmon skin wasn't crispy because they left some of the meat on, which could be seen in the roll, so it was hard to chew through at times. TL;DR Kumar is a local favorite serving up great sushi and Japanese cuisine, and also has the best shrimp tempura I've ever had. Kumo is a family favorite even for my friends the live out of town. When they come in they want to come Back to Kumo. We have never had a bad experience here. The staff and waiters are always nice and welcoming. Service and food is never slow and the food is always prepared well and consistently. My favorite dish here is the shrimp tempura it's THE ABSOLUTE BEST and the reheat ability is also top tier with an air fryer. They have a wide variety of sushi and appetizers, and also have hibachi. Which is awesome when you want that dish without the show and the price premium. Everyone certainly will find something that they like here. The inside is nice, but can get slightly cramped when it's busy but it's cozy. The music is lively, the locals love it, and it's also great for birthdays. I I'm changing my review from 4 stars to 2 stars because over the past year the sushi portions have noticeably decreased. The Crazy Salmon sushi used to be my go-to, at $18 it was satisfying and felt worth it. Now the pieces are about half the size they used to be, and I still feel hungry after finishing my meal, which makes it hard to justify the price. I've been coming to kumo for the past 8 years and always had a wonderful fulfilling time This past Saturday came to dinner and experience a little different. Mind you I come 2 x a month atleast . Found that the portions were smaller than usual, I ordered chicken fried rice w/shrimp and usually would be able to feed 3 people (adult) nice portions . I experience a smaller portion where only my daughter and son who is only 3 years of age was able to finish the plate without me the adult to get a good portion , decided not to even have any so my kids can get full . For the pricy price I expected the same portion as always . We left with room to eat more . Also the lowmein was dry . I ordered: * Yaki Udon (Chicken) - $17 * Tom Yum Soup (Small, Chicken) - $6 * Spring Rolls (2) - $5.25 * Hibachi Chicken & Steak (Medium Well, Fried Rice, Salad, Miso Soup) - $30 The hibachi chicken was bland, and the steak was overcooked, lacking even basic seasoning like salt or pepper. The Tom Yum soup didn't taste like Tom Yum at all no lemongrass or authentic flavor, just bland. The only item that was decent were the spring rolls. I won't be returning! The service was impeccable. Everyone was friendly, accommodating and attentive. Our waitress was never too far away, but she kept an eye on us from afar and visited the table as soon as I would look her way. I love that, because it was a date between my husband and I. We were able to have intimate conversation, receive our food and drinks, yet not feel interrupted. Even the owner/manager checked on us once. Now, the food was delicious! I played it safe with lunch hibachi because I wanted to try two of their specialty rolls. Everything was freshly made and hot off the grill. I enjoy complex flavors in my food, where you get layers of seasonings rather than bland tastes. The specialty rolls were absolutely amazing. Sushi always skews a little high but I have to say this food was pretty good and filling for the price in the area. The staff were super attentive and the food came out quickly. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with Chicken (paid $3 extra for White Meat). As you can see, there's a lot of noodles & barely any chicken;you can spy the one big piece but that's about it. Taste was just okay if I wanted just noodles and only had a (hint) of heat. Thai Basil Fried Rice w/Chicken. As you can see, same issue here. And I actually wonder if they just cooked the top of the bowl because as I dug into it, it was not seasoned just tasted like plain white rice below. I'm always looking for a little bit of heat when I buy Thai Basil but this was disappointing. If you're going to not put chicken in a dish, just say so or ask me and I'll pay extra. Because I don't mind actually buying extra protein and paying for it. Despite not having any chicken, I would've scored higher if the flavor was throughout the dish, but it wasn't. They should actually cook all of the rice and just minimum chicken they're going to do in one pot and then plop it into a bowl periodT but just seasoning the top,what it disappointment. Overall disappointing and I won't return. I will add a caveat, I did order takeout. I always noticed that when you do takeout, they kind of skimp on the protein or what's going to cost them extra, so maybe that's the case?! Don't do take-out; maybe if you eat in?! I appreciate good food. I used to frequent Kumo all the time so we decided to stop in for dinner. The dining room was not very full, but of course we brought the rush. We were seated and left at the table for a few minutes as there was only one waitress on the floor. we ordered Gyoza app, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, and Shrimp tempura with fried rice. The gyoza came out 1st followed by the fried rice, the s&s chicken, then the shrimp tempura. The gyoza, shrimp tempura, and the rice were cooked to perfection. The chicken had too much breading to eat. The sauce while served on the side had an off taste. Service was slow. The waitress was overwhelmed as she had all the tables and had an attitude. The runner who brought the food to the table had to bring extra napkins, water, sugar for the tea all with an attitude. The manager/owner did check on us but provided no assistance. Then tries to make excuses when I addressed him directly about the poor service. He did apologize but I recognize bs. I will not return to pay for underwhelming food and bad service. BLUF: the food is tasty, but it doesn't quite match it's menu description Four of us went on a Friday night. The wait staff was very friendly, but it seemed like they just couldn't wait to take a plate off your table. If you're not quite done with something you kind of have to lean over it to make sure they don't snap it up on the way by. I would recommend getting a reservation if you go on a weekend. The place was quite full and I was glad I made a reservation ahead of time. We didn't have any drinks or anything so here's a rundown of the food: - Thai Beef Basil: it was actually relatively Bland, especially when you consider it had one of those little peppers next to it on the menu to indicate it was spicy. I ended up having to add a little wasabi from my Sushi to it to spice it up. The beef was well cooked and the gravy was very good. - Teriyaki Vegetable: quite good, with pretty good fresh veggies thrown in - Octopus sushi: very good. Wasn't rubbery like I often find, but it was a bit of a thin slice considering you're paying about 3.50 a piece for it - Veggie gyoza: very good, with a nice crisp sear on it and veggies inside tasted fresh - Herndon Roll: very good, with a nice balance of rice and fish - Spicy Salmon and Yellowtail Roll: the role itself was pretty good, but again didn't live up to the spicy label put on it on the menu. If I were in the area I would go back, but I would definitely stick to the sushi. read more

Even though Kumo is in a standard, nondescript strip mall, once you get inside, it's a large, spacious restaurant with plenty of seating and a sizable bar. We ordered the Black Pepper Tuna Tataki - five slices of tuna sushi, seasoned with black pepper - delicious. We also got the five-spice fried calamari - crispy with the option of dipping into tangy katsu sauce and/or eating with crispy jalapenos. Then the Salmon Teryaki Bento Box, which didn't come in a box, and I think that's because there aren't boxes big enough to hold everything - tasty salmon with a teryaki glaze, large fried shrimp, shumai and a california roll. Since we had a big group, we also got shrimp fried rice and a standout crispy shredded beef. Huge portions, tasty bites! Only afterwards did we realize, we never ordered more sushi than the tataki appetizer. That just means we'll have to visit again! read more

We have been coming here for the past 2 years. We had everything: delivery through door dash, pick up, dining in. Service was always good and we never had issues with our food. It's definitely cheaper to do a pick up or dine in as delivery up charges every dish. I went to pick up food for 5 people and it was ready under 20min and packed well. This place also is pretty busy even on weekdays. For Thursday evening I was surprised to see almost full seating and many orders waiting to be picked up.
