Kumo was tucked away in a shopping center with lots of other restaurants and outdoor seating with unbrellas. Easy parking. We had the chicken katsu sando + $2.50 for the combo (fries and green tea). The chicken katsu is pretty decent - crispy and I liked the sauce. The fries were good too and especially the aioli it comes with. Green tea tasted homemade and was solid too. Also got the original fruit sando, which was very tasty. They didn't cut corners on the amount of fruit and we still found fruit "deeper" in the sando in the parts that weren't exposed. The grapes and strawberries were my favorite. Whipped cream was light and sweet, but not too sweet. Sweet bread was soft and tasty. Service was good and the staff was helpful but not too pushy, and brought our food out to the table outside when it was ready. Kumo is one of those restaurants I always revisit because it hits the spot for a certain craving. And I love the combos- the egg salad is really good (and less salty than it used to be). The shrimp katsu sando is perfect for a lighter flavor that still has solid pieces of shrimp and the tartar sauce and cabbage complement the golden katsu well. Apparently on this day the chicken katsu had sold out before noon - I also recommend it. The menchi katsu sando has pork and beef, so it's actually quite hamburger tasting, with a stronger American or seasoned patty flavor. Not my type since I generally don't like Italian sausage type seasoning flavor, and one half of the katsu was more tough and chewy than the other. Still nicely crispy. Potato salad didn't taste like you'd expect. Kani salad is nice. The green Thai tea is good, my friend who is a barista loved it alot. Kumo is a small Japanese sandwich shop tucked into a food hall off the west side of Mira Mesa Blvd. I had a sando craving while visiting San Diego and this definitely hit the spot. We ordered a Veggie Croquette, Egg Sando, Pork Katsu Sando, and Strawberry & Cream Sando The Veggie Croquette was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Egg Sando was all I wanted--perfect bread with marinated golden yolk eggs and kewpie mayo. The Pork Katsu Sando had the pork cutlet with the shop's own katsu sauce and napa cabbage. Their Strawberry & Cream Sando was such a great treat at the end. It was very light, subtly sweet, with very good strawberries throughout. The shop has a counter with menus and drinks available. This spot is in a little food court area with cute tables with umbrellas. We came on a Saturday around 2pm and it wasn't too busy in the table area (but the shop was hoppin). The sandos took a bit to come out but no worries because it was a nice spot to sit and chat and I loved how fresh they were. The chicken katsu sando was juicy, tender, tangy, and so delicious. The egg salad sando was also so flavorful and delicious. My favorite thing was the strawberries and cream sando -- the fresh whipped cream was heavy and thick, and there were strawberries in every bite. This review is only for two sandwiches. I bought the egg sando and the chicken katsu sando. They look great but the flavors were mid. I expected more of a savory flavor in each. Great sandos. Perfect for picnics. I always order take out on their website and never have an issue with timing or getting the wrong items. The workers are kind. There is not seating inside, but there is a lot of seating outside. All of the sandos are served with a milk bread that is very soft and has a subtle sweetness that goes good with the rest of the food. The shrimp and the pork katsu sandos both had shredded cabbage that was fresh and crisp. The meat in both katsu were tender and cooked perfectly and the breading in both was crispy. The katsu sandos are served with katsu sauce that is tangy and has a good soy-ginger taste and spicy mayo that is savory and very very slightly spicy. The strawberry sando had fresh strawberries that had a good balance of sweet and sour. The texture was like a strawberries just before they ripen. The whipped cream was sweet and milky and very soft. The egg salad sando had a boiled egg that had a nice jammy yolk with some crushed black pepper for that one spot. The egg salad was soft and had pieces of boiled egg white, but is pretty flavorless. I took it home and added salt which made it taste perfect. The kelpys spam dunk had spam masubi smothered in a katsu sauce. The spam masubi had a crisp outside and a tender inside and the katsu sauce tasted like the one served with the other katsu sando. I tried Kumo for the first time today and it was very delicious. It's definitely a hole in the wall kind of vibe. I got the pork Katsu and the strawberry cream sandwiches. The Katsu sandwich was very savory and cooked to perfection. There was just the right amount of sauce and the Katsu was very crispy which went well with the bread. They also added a little bit of shredded cabbage for extra crunch and all the flavors came together very nicely. The strawberry and cream sandwich was a good way to end the meal. The whipped cream was very light and not too sweet. I love how the bread, cream, and strawberries complemented each other. The only thing is that it took a while to make the sandwiches, but it's understandable because you have to take some time to make it look nice and pretty ! so if you are going to have a big order, you might wait for a while. I highly recommend that you eat there. There are some tables outside in a small plaza where you can eat it. I feel like if you have to take the sandwiches home, they might get a little bit soggy due to the sauce so maybe you could ask for sauce on the side, especially for the savory sandwiches. He was willing to give me a refund or have his staff make us a fresh new order of the sando we were originally missing. In addition, he added 2 extra sandos for FREE to compensate for the inconvenience. I thought that was the sweetest and I was already obsessed with the sandos so of course, I accepted the offer with thankfulness. I was able to pick up the sandos on a day that worked perfect for me. The sandos are great for lunch at work or something to pick up on the way home. They do delivery through doordash or you can easily order online and pick them up at the store to beat the traffic. 10/10 recommend.
