Our tutor Sarah was a great listener and asked our daughter a lot of questions -- see how she learns, what we're her worries/concerns, what were her strengths and how she could teach her best. They had 5 strong 2 hour sessions together. Our daughter got her point and our confidence in Varsity Tutors is strong. This is a new relationship with VT. Whether they will tutor our son for ACT within the next year or help our daughter in college classes, it's comforting to know they have the personal touch to help our children academically where needed.

She is now in the fourth grade (the school goes to fifth) and I will be sad to say goodbye. Audrey has learned so much and is on her way to being fluent in Spanish. I always get native speakers boasting about how well she speaks and that there is an absence of an accent. A true testiment to how much of an asset this school is to the future of Tulsa. It is a tough road at times but I recommend any child attend this school. So many opportunities will be available to a bilingual child. Eisenhower is their sister school. They offer French and Spanish. I taught a variety of subjects including a phonics based reading program. I am excited to see what artificial intelligence has done for phonics based reading. I'm even thinking about applying to substitute teach. A number of state legislators, a school board member, and the superintendent of Oklahoma schools were there. We were allowed to observe several classrooms where children were using this program. The teacher would be at a table working with a small group of children. The other children in the class were working on the Amira program on their laptop computers. All were totally engaged. I was impressed watching our state superintendent, Ryan Walters, interact with the teachers and children. I had gotten the impression from the media that Walters was really mean to the teachers. My daughter is still teaching and I didn't want anyone to be mean to her. It was quite the opposite. He had great rapport with the teachers and administrators. They seemed to like him and he praised them for the good work they were doing. Carnegie is an excellent school and I have hope other schools in Tulsa and all of Oklahoma will follow in its footsteps.

THA opened in August 2015 and with 92 scholars. They currently serve 5th through 9th graders and will keep expanding one grade each year. It is free to attend. The majority of the students are Latino as their vision is to serve the East Tulsa community. The academic results are amazing and they have been nationally recognized with awards. Most recently, THA was one of the few middle schools to receive an "A" state report card.

In the last couple of years they have put in new windows and restored Will Rogers High School as a gem in the Tulsa Art Deco tiara! It is famous art deco and is in all the art deco books! It is on the National Register. As far as the education part of Rogers, it provided a much better education when it was built because the parents knew the value of their children becoming educated. That is no longer the way parents of current students view education.....mini soap box! BTW, with additions, they maintained the same Art Deco style. Yay! The Tulsa Public School gives intermittent tours of this school.
