Now that I've lived in Hobart for six years I have to apologise for misgendering our beautiful mountain. She's absolutely a she, she is mother to us all and we rest in her shadow. No idea why Yelp has removed her indigenous name from the listing. The dual name "kunanyi / Mount Wellington" is absolutely in use on all signage and locals know her as kunanyi. Have some respect, Yelp.

It is a bit of a hair-raising ride to the top up some small windy roads. I think Australia has looser safety standards on these things than the U.S. does, and it makes me a tad nervous. Once at the top, though, you're treated to some serious panoramic views. And on top of that, some cool vegetation. Indeed, the whole mountain is a very nice park, though I suspect many are just in it to get to the summit as I was.

Tasmania was one of the first stops in my backpacking trip through Australia and it ruined my perception of the rest of the country. Although other cities might have more to do, but nothing compares to the scenery of this island. This attraction is a couple hour ordeal and can be knocked off early in the day and still leave you plenty of time to check out the rest of Hobart. Mount Wellington has scenic views. Best times are around sunrise or sunset. Just like Dennis S. posted in his review. It can be a drastic difference in temperature. Bring a jacket. Be careful while driving to and from Hobart because they have cameras up. My friend got a speeding ticket.

Kunanyi is the aboriginal name for the mountain.

Simply breathtaking, 360 degree views! We booked our excursion at the Hobart Visitor center and round trip, it took just about two hours. It's not very far from the heart of downtown Hobart up to the top of the mountain, and we had clear views into the city proper, and then a view of the extended areas beyond downtown that were shrouded in fog, so it was a great combo!

At the summit, multiple lookout points, including a sheltered observation deck, offer a place to enjoy the views.
