This is a fantastic Czech restaurant.
Very old style Czech decoration. (Antique irons, cut glasswear)
Every surface is covered with bric-a-brac.
This makes the room fantastic for dining - and miserable for the poor lady who has to do the dusting.
Among the "must eat once in your life" dishes here:
Liver dumplings that will restore your faith in Central European soup.
The Rye-y-est rye bread on the planet.
(The English department of the University of Vienna has just informed me that
"Rye-y-est" is not a real word in English.
But that is what describes the rye bread at Kundenbeleg and
that's the way the review stays.)
Potato pancakes suitable for Saint Wencelas.
These are not your potato latkes from the Temple Beth Shalom Hanukkah dinner.
These are not the abominations called potato pancakes at IHOP.
These potato pancakes are pizza sized.
Each one is a full meal.
They are browned to the point of having a deep deep char..
They have a huge taste of rye even though they are made of potato.
They come in all sorts of flavors.
They are more addicting than heroin, chocolate and Lady Gaga dance remixes all rolled into one.
Life without eating these potato pancakes would not be complete.
On the warning side - what they call "roast beef" is what the French would call a beefsteak - and what Americans would call a tough cheap steak.
They try to flavor the "roast beef" but it is not the star of the show.
(The potatoes that come with them however ... those are fantastic)
But meatwise, they could serve a surgical bandage in lieu of a steak, and if you had had the liver dumpling soup or the potato pancakes first, you just would not care.
