I've been coming to Kung Pao Bistro since I moved to West Hollywood back in 2021, and they continue to have solid quality of food. As someone who is Asian in West Hollywood, I'm always looking for Asian food and they always deliver! My experience here is always a good one. I was considering trying this place, as I live not far from there. Two things are keeping me from doing so: 1. The numerous 1-star reviews. 2. The fact that the restaurant has chosen not to respond to those reviews. (A restaurant that really cares tends to respond, along the lines of "sorry we had an off night, let us make it up to you, we vow to do better, thanks for bringing this to our attention. This restaurant--crickets. Not good.) And by the way, I stopped by to pick up a to-go menu. They had none. How 'bout a business card? They had none. I've been eating here for many years and there have been good experiences and not-so-good experiences. That's the reason for the 3-star rating. I always get the same few items; my comfort food if you will. Since the pandemic I've been ordering takeout instead of eating inside the restaurant. It's just easier to eat at home. I live close by and the delivery is quick. The "Orange Chicken" is a good size portion, and it's made with White meat. Unfortunately, there have been several times when the chicken is glazed with too much orange sauce which takes away the crunchiness of the meal. I really like the "Chicken Fried Rice" which has a generous amount of chicken and rice. It's always very warm and tastes fresh. The "Egg Rolls" taste better in the restaurant than delivery. When they arrive at my home they're cold and soggy. I reheat them in my oven and they come back to life and taste pretty good. The "Chicken Dumplings" are a decent size and taste good. Sometimes I have to reheat them if I want them warmer. I also order a side of "White Rice" which I really enjoy. It's more like sticky rice which I like. It's a generous portion and always very warm. When I do eat in the restaurant, the service is very friendly and fairly quick. Plenty of free parking where Whole Foods in West Hollywood is located. read more

This review is for a delivery order. Pictures attached are for Beef with Broccoli, King Pao chicken, egg flower soup and a small order of lo mein. Overall I'm satisfied and I'd order again from this location. This is our first try with this restaurant and we live close enough to have the option of robot delivery. All the food arrive hot! That's a treat! The beef and broccoli dish was tasty, but it's not a dish that's good to reheat since the meat will get tough. The brocolli was still nice and crisp. My favourite was the egg lower soup, delicious although it might be on the salty side for some. The lo mein to me was standard but reheats well and just add more soy sauce and it's tasty. We love it there so much, especially because it's right down the block. However, their soups have gotten way saltier than they were when I first started going there. We love their soup with chicken dumplings. It's amazing but it's become very, very salty. It's not gonna stop me from going, but I have to figure something out because I love them and I love everything about it. read more

I've been going to Kung Pao Bistro since they opened in early 2000s. They've always had consistently very good food, and still do. The service from some employees and especially management over the years has been inconsistent. Ive had a few genuinely rude service experiences over the years. The reason I'm removing a star, is because the portions have continued to get smaller and smaller. It started with different packaging. It was noticebly less food but looked full in the smaller packaging. Ive been ordering here at least once a week for years, so Im pretty familiar with their portion sizes and packaging. I ordered my usual a few nights ago and the portions shrunk again. It *felt* lighter. When I opened it, I could actually see the bottom of the Firecracker chicken container and see that the portion had shrunk a little more again. Then I opened the white rice. It's usually full and packed to the top lid. This time it was not. Bottom line: Their food is very good. I order it often. The portions are starting to not be worth the price though. Side note: they have a patio where you used to be able to eat outside. Since covid, they removed the tables. They don't allow outdoor eating anymore. Why did it take me so long to try this place!?! This place dominates on deliveries so the ambiance is minimalist. Many years ago when I was doing deliveries I would pick up from here frequently, as I lived within walking distance of this place. Maximum Facepalm on not trying it until nearly a decade later! Recently my friend offered to treat me to an early dinner (Hit'n Up That Happy Hour) and they suggested Kung Pao Bistro. I had no idea they had a huge dedicated vegan section with a ton of options! I settled on the Vegan Wontons in Sesame Hot Sauce. My friend got the Egg Flower Soup, Cashew Chicken with a side of brown rice. The food came out within 10min and upon the first bite I regretted all times I didn't eat here! I was missing out, my bad! The sauce was flavorful a little sweet and a touch of spice! It's like a rich creamy peanut sauce. The wontons were stuffed with a mock meat that had a great taste and texture. This was delightful and I devoured it! The portions are generous and worth the price! The service is laid back but in a good way not pretentious not lazy it was comfortable and just right. I do feel that this place caters more to non-asians as the beef would be super tender at Sam Woos. For the price I paid, I wish it came with a side of rice. My good friend always orders from Kung Pao Bistro. I finally ordered pick up after living in the neighborhood for years! It was just for the two us and I wanted to order many little things instead of a couple entrees to share. I wanted more variety so I ordered almost everything on the small plates section. It all satiated by quick Chinese cravings. I am obsessed with their vegetarian/vegan options! Everything I've had from here so far is delicious. I highly recommend the vegan general chows. It's next to a Whole Foods so there is plenty of parking. I ordered to go so I didn't stay inside, but it was nice and cozy inside and they had a cute patio area as well. So I don't know why I always do this....I have a "go to place" that I'd love for Chinese Food but every once in a while I get a wild hair and I want to try something new! So, I figured I would order from this place since it had decent reviews and was close by. I ordered delivery so I was not at the location therefore I cannot speak to the ambience or the service. However, I was extremely disappointed. It feels like a very low quality American take on both these dishes. I ordered a wonton soup and salt and pepper shrimp. Both which I have had many times before, the salt and pepper shrimp were battered, and then deepfried, and then it was slightly soggy when I received it, and although the name is "salt and pepper shrimp", it is supposed to Be overly salty. That's the way the dishes is supposed to be made. However, when I received this dish, not only were the deep fried shrimp soggy, but it was so salty that I just threw it out. It was very disappointing. The original dish for salt and pepper shrimp is not supposed to be heavily deep fried or this salty. I also ordered the wonton soup which the broth was also extremely extremely salty There was one shrimp in it and two wontons which I feel is very little and bunch of different veggies and then pieces of random shredded chicken floating, which was not appealing. I have tried most of their food and it's really tasty . Staff is always friendly . We alternate dining and ordering pick up but when we do dine in, the place is always clean and cozy and seats are very comfortable. This place is a must! It gets busy during lunch out. Take out is an option too. Came here with coworkers for lunch. We got there around 12 30 so we were seating immediately. My wonton soup was so delicious and plentiful. Everyone I came with loved their meal. My favorite was the chicken and green bean. They give you big quantities and it came out pretty quickly. I did take away one star because of the plates styles it threw me off to have a cafeteria style plate. Plus the utensils that were given were normal cutlery. I live in the area and this has been my go-to place. Sorry to say the food at Kung Pao now rates the worse ever and has plummeted to depths where restaurants like this will go out of business in the very near future... like next week. I ordered via the Toast app, Mongolian beef- the meat was over cooked and tough, the green beans were not crisp, but over cooked to the point they looked like shriveled caterpillars. the Lo Mein noodles Were supposed to have extra vegetables with a request for extra snow peas and bean sprouts, both of which were not in the dish at all, and the chicken lettuce cups was a chopped mess in brown gravy, likely the same gravy on the meat and noodles. As for the Toast App ordering, they charge $5.00 for delivery which is fine, but added in a 20% tip automatically, and it took a lot of doing to remove it. This automated tipping has got to stop, while I appreciate good service and honor it appropriately, the spinning around of the screen and tipping before the food, coffee, whatever has been delivered is NOT what tipping is about. And who is it that started this idea that tips should start at 20% and go up from there. 20%-25%-30%??? Really?? Enough already- Employers pay your staff enough so that tips are a honorarium not a necessity to survive life. Or be prepared for when you call Your dentist, housekeeper, grocery check out clerk, and they won't deliver service unless you tip them 25% too. read more

Frank is my hero! I ordered delivery from Kung Pao Bistro and there was an issue with delivery. Even tho it was a delivery driver issue, the restaurant's phone number is the only number that Toast gives you to call for help so I called and Frank who works there spent a good half an hour solving the issue, calling Uber and Toast to try and get a solution for me in the face of mind boggling incompetence from those two companies it was probably out of the scope of his job and a problem nobody wants to deal with let alone a busy restaurant worker, but I really appreciated how kind and empathetic he was Update: Uber wouldn't send another driver out so Frank drove from weho all the way out to Silver Lake to personally deliver it to me. I would give 0 stars if I could. My friend and I ordered delivery through the restaurant website for their birthday at 3:17pm on March 10, and were given an estimated delivery time of 4:17pm. We were located 14min away from the restaurant. Food did not arrive until 6pm, nearly three hours after ordering. We called around 5 and again 15-30min after that. We were given the runaround every time. In hindsight, we should have ordered pickup. They claimed the food was delivered and they couldn't call us (they never called). The 2nd time they told us they didn't see our order in the back, went to talk to someone, and then claimed the order just got picked up (it had not, we had to call AGAIN). When we called the 3rd time, they assured us the food would be delivered hot and fresh. It arrived cold, soggy, and leaking. The fried dumplings tasted like they had been sitting out in their paper container for 2+ hrs, and it showed - the packaging was warped and damaged. Several containers of other dishes had leaked all over everything in one of the bags, leaving a large pool of sauce at the bottom of it. Everything was lukewarm or cold. It probably didn't help that they sent two men on ONE moped to deliver the food to us, rather than someone in a car. We have since contacted the restaurant multiple times to make this right, and they refuse to provide a refund more than 30 or 40%. This is unacceptable. I do not recommend ordering from this restaurant. Disclaimer: I have posted this review via Google as well. Edit: The owner claims they called a number, but the number called has the wrong area code - if that's the number they called, they dialed incorrectly. We even provided the correct phone number on all 3 calls we made, trying to track down the order. We intentionally did not provide an apartment number as the driver needed to contact us directly so we could come down and retrieve the delivery, we did not request they come into the building. My friend has not been contacted about the order refund as of 6:12pm PT 3/12. read more

We've been customers of Kung Pao for 10 to 15 years. There was a time when we ate there, and smacked our lips, how tasty the food was. We cut back a few years ago because the food wasn't as good, and the prices jumped. Today we ordered, and it will be our last. We're vegan, and ordered a soup, a tofu dish and a vegan chicken dish. So: 2 dishes and a soup. The bill was $76 (with $5 delivery tip), - or $56, with a $20 uber eats promo. The food wasn't worth $56, let alone $76. I'm not the best arbiter of these things, these days, because I'm not used to $20+ main dishes, and buy take-out very sparingly. As for the taste: We order vegan soup, with spinach and vegan chicken won ton. The won tons were fine, but the liquid was basically salty water. The taste of a savory vegetable broth was absent. It was literally salt and water. I assume there must have been flavor in there, but it was not discernable. Both the tofu dish was good, and the vegan chicken dish was oversweet. We considered just throwing out the leftovers, rather than giving it another tomorrow night. At the moment, it's a toss-up. The magic is gone from Kung Pao. read more
