I ordered the pork with potato cakes, which actually just tasted like hasbrowns, and my bf got beef with fries. I feel like the way they cook their meat is different than the US but it isn't bad. It's just tougher/ over done. It was still really good and I enjoyed it. I also noticed that a lot of place that are open late the locals only come to drink and have small bites like French fries. It was a nice experience and this place was really close to our Airbnb. Definitely give this place a try if your out of town and have no idea where to go.

The owner of this place is so friendly and courteous. The restaurant offers a convenient English menu, and I highly recommend the rump steak. The place is small, so I am not sure how crazy crowded it can get. However, around 5-6 PM or so, it is rather empty and easy to find a seat. The steaks come with salad and vegetables. On the side, you can also order fries, potato cakes, etc. Again, the customer service is superb with a very friendly owner. The price is amazing too. For two rump steaks and sparkling waters, the price only comes out around $15 USD. You will not find this price anywhere in the US, not to mention that the steak quality is amazing. Enjoy!

I really really want to give this place 5 stars, because of how lovely it is and how extremely nice…read morethe staff was, but some of the food unfortunately didn't meet the 5star standard (shame, cause the rest was super delicious!) - hopefully I'll be able to update my review next time! Babičina beseda is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Prague. Went there for a family lunch on the weekend and it was packed, but we managed to get a table. I loved the atmosphere here - it lives up to its name and it makes you feel like you are visiting a typical czech grandma - it is furnished with old, wooden furniture in a truly typical style and extremely cozy. We ordered wild garlic soup and steak tartare for starters and also got a complimentary basket of homemade pastries - all of it was really tasty, the soup was creamy and had a nice mild garlicky flavor and the steak was seasoned perfectly. For mains I opted for a dish from their special daily menu - veal roast stuffed with wild garlic + peas purée, while the rest ordered from their regular menu - ox cheek with plum sauce & creamy mushed potatoes. The food came fairly quickly and as soon as it did, I knew I was gonna regret my choice - the roast was visibly dry and with a couple semi-burnt dried tomatoes on top. The peas purée was okay but I didn't enjoy the meat at all- it was indeed extremely dry and the wild garlic stuffing was tasteless. The ox cheek, however, which I got to try as well, was superb. The meat was wonderfully tender and the plum sauce was to die for. For a dessert we got "věneček"- a cream filled choux bun, which was light, fluffy and perfect. I got a cappuccino to go with it, which was really good as well. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit here and am looking forward to coming back. I would definitely order from their regular menu next time though, as it seems those are the meals they have already perfected - unlike the meals from their special daily/seasonal menus.

Highly recommend heading out to the outskirts for what I consider the most authentic Czech meal I've had in my 3 months in Prague. Prices are very reasonable too

My wife and I stumbled upon this place while looking for a restaurant near our hotel in Prague,…read morehaving no idea what we were about to experience. We ducked through a doorway clearly not designed for anyone over six feet and were immediately greeted by the man we later learned was the owner. I'm a classic beef-and-potatoes American eater, so the small-plate menu wasn't something I'd normally gravitate toward. But I couldn't have been more wrong. We shared several dishes -- deer, prawns, eggplant, goat cheese -- all things I wouldn't usually order, and every single plate was phenomenal. Even the drinks were memorable. The owner talked me out of a Coca-Cola and into their iced tea, which turned out to be incredible. We ended the meal with cappuccinos that were just as impressive. Every part of the experience introduced us to new flavors and combinations we never expected to love. It might honestly be the best restaurant I've ever visited. The owner was welcoming, friendly, and guided us through the menu like a tour of flavor town. We visited on a Monday without a reservation and were very lucky to get a table. For about $90 USD, we enjoyed a glass of wine, an iced tea, seven different small plates, two desserts, and coffee -- a meal that would easily cost over $200 back in the States. If you're in Prague and want an exceptional meal served by people who treat you like family, Kofein is the place. Call ahead if you can -- you won't be disappointed.

They brew their own beer and it is very good. The best beer in Prague. Especially dark beer! You don't drink other beers after tasting this. The interior is beautiful. One side is more formal dining with seafood and pasta and the other is more traditional Czech food. Both have beautiful outdoor seating. We dined in both and truly enjoyed. The service is excellent and a beautiful atmosphere. It was so easy to get a reservation. Live music. Would highly recommend!!!!!!

It´s one big open space with two floors (upper one is smaller). Service was very good. Staff is friendly, pretty quick and our waitress had a smile for us everytime she came to our table. Thanx to two parts, so there are two kinds of cuisines. Czech one in beerhouse and mediterrian one in restaurant. But you can order from both no matter where you sit. Meals are pretty delicious, We tried mozzarella with roasted pepper salad, couple of kinds of meat in czech style (usually with sauer kraut and dumplings or just potatoes) and couple of things from mediterrian cuisine like risotto with sepia or lamb chops with provencal herbs. Funny thing is that it seemed to me that meals from mediterrian cuisine were better than czech ones. Czech ones were just a better average. I guess they have better cooks from southern european countries that from Czech republic. They have pretty good beer too. Their own. Different kinds. I am pretty sure you will find the one which suits you the best. What I would just remove are some TVs. There are too many of them. It´s a bit pricey. Not the czech part but the mediterrian. But that quality was good so I don´t see that as a issue. I will definitely come back.
