This place is like a Michael Bay blockbuster, all looks but no substance…read more The place is new, it looks fancy, the service is pleasant, and the food looks really good...but it fails to deliver and it's pretty underwhelming. For $13.90 a bowl a ramen, I'd expect it to have more than one piece of chashu...and a hot piece not a cold piece. It's $3.80 for 3 more pieces of chashu, meaning ~$18 for a bowl of ramen for 4 pieces of chashu. It would be a fair price if it were say Ippudo, but this place isn't even close. On top of that the egg was way overcooked. Meh. Manpuku takes a page out of Ramen Zundo's book and offers a Red (chili) and Black (soy) ramen and they also use bean sprouts and cabbage. Not necessarily bad, just different. The best part of the dish were the noodles since they're al dente...but overcooked egg, cold chashu, and a tepid broth make this place one I don't plan on frequenting again.

I got the traditional chicken ramen broth it was excellent, flavourful and tastey and hit the right spot for me. The manager gave my other half some extra veggies as he went pork free with his dish. The manager spent extra time with us and going through the menu and completely nailed our tastes to recommendations. Some of the best service we've received in a long time, we'll be back.

I came here with some friends and my fiancé to celebrate our engagement and could not be more…read moredisappointed. We called ahead of time and were told to bring our own alcohol, which I have never heard of at a restaurant. We arrived and began eating. The chef started his show and serving food. He prepared a very small portion of beef and chicken for those of us sitting at the table, but I assumed there would be multiple servings, so I didn't mind at the time. The chef asked if any of us liked playing games, and my group said we weren't great at them, but he insisted. He threw us bowls and told us he would be throwing a raw egg at each of us that we would need to catch. He threw the raw egg at my fiancé, and she failed to catch it, resulting in raw egg whites, yolk, and shell all over her skirt. I was visibly upset and spoke up, saying that was enough, but the chef insisted on throwing another egg for her to catch, which also landed on her skirt. Without hesitation, the chef then threw an egg at me to catch, which I thankfully did not drop. After embarrassing my fiancé at the table, the chef cooked and folded an egg and told us he would be throwing the cooked egg into our mouths. He made an absolute fool of everyone at the table. The other party seated with us was clearly uncomfortable with him throwing hot food at their faces, and I said that I didn't think it was necessary, but he continued. When he came around to my group, he missed several times, which led to my friends getting egg not only on their clothes but also in their hair. Thankfully, I don't eat eggs, so I didn't personally have to deal with this, but one of my friends was extremely frustrated with having food in his hair and all over his clothes. Shortly after this, a worker began sweeping the floor beside us while we were still eating. I've had hibachi a number of times, and this was easily the worst experience I've ever had. The chef seemed nice but did not know how to read the room, the food was decent at best, the portions were tiny, and the whole vibe of the place was off.

You can see everything they cook in front of you and how they prepare it. The place is small and decoration is minimal, walls are black. The cooker likes to play games that involve catching bowls and food in your mouth. The environment is very friendly and welcoming. I recommend anyone to visit, you are sure to have a good time. My experience was fun and very good. Example of price: for 3 people, our bill was around $170 Meals are around $50, $30 per head, depends on what you order.

Asakusa is a little Japanese joint in Maroubra. I have only ever got take-away from there as the…read moreplace is a bit lackluster. It's got beautiful Agedashi Tofu which is something I judge most Japanese restaurants by. The seaweed salad with lemon dressing is fab and they have black sesame ice cream too! The Sashimi comes in small, medium and large which is wonderful depending on how hungry you are and it is really fresh and fat fish. The softshell crab w/ salad, for $16.50 is great value but the rest of the menu is a little expensive for what you get. They have lunch specials though that cost between $8-11. A nice little local for lunch or dinner.

The gyozu were crisp on one side and soggy on the other. The so called tempura consisted of thick , soggy oily batter coating unrecognisable vegetables and prawn slivers - revolting and unedible. The salmon ? teriyaki was even worse presented in a dark brown sauce coating what was probably paper thin white slivers of defrosted mushy Nile perch or similar (isn't salmon pink ?) and the accompanying salad consisted of a lettuce leaf , grated carrot and a teaspoon of mayonaise. Don't even ask about the non service and indifferent attitude of the waitress ..........
