The gift shop at Kure Beach Fishing Pier is hands down the best souvenir shop on the beach! They have a huge selection of high-quality T-shirts, hats, keychains, and all kinds of souvenirs that are much nicer than what we found at other shops. The prices were fair, and everything felt well-made instead of cheap tourist merchandise. It was also a nice bonus that the pier is free to walk, so we were able to enjoy the views before shopping. The pier was well maintained and had clean restrooms and reasonably priced souvenirs and snacks. Some of the staff clearly didn't enjoy working there but that's okay! $8 to fish all day is really reasonable and we spent much of our trip walking on the pier and fishing. read more

My daughter and I have been walking on this pier for her whole life!! Kure Beach holds a special place in our hearts, and always will!! The owner is, by far, one of the kindest and best people we have ever met on the Island. He truly cares and always has a kind word, or a joke, and a warm smile. He has brightened our day more than once over the years, and hope his business sustains through this pandemic we are living through at the moment!! If we aren't walking on the pier (since we can't go inside presently), due to Covid, you may find us either swimming or on the beach near the pier. I feel so sad about the amount of beach erosion, but surely send positive vibes that this too, shall pass (as my Great-grandmother always said when things were not as happy). We can't come down to Kure Beach without spending some time at this pier. We love walking out way above the ocean and watching the people at work fishing and occasionally being almost eye to eye with a pelican that decides to take a rest on the railing. The pier has been hit many times by hurricanes and sustained damage, but thankfully, they always rebuild! They have quite a store inside with anything you may need to fish with from all sorts of equipment to any kind of bait you can imagine.They even host a yearly fishing tournament. Much of the store is beach souvenirs of all sorts from knick knacks to sandals, flotation devices, postcards, tee shirts, hats, sweatshirts and more, with many bearing "Kure Beach" on them. They also have a variety of snacks, cold drinks and even ice cream. This town is my idea of a vacation at an old fashioned small beach town. Park the car and just walk to everything and don't get back in it till it's time to drive home. read more

Due to the fact that this pier is not so far from other major beaches such as Carolina or Wrightsville, Kure Beach is often overlooked, but believe me, this pier has been my go-to spot for me and my friends for the past couple of years. So what exactly makes a long wooden structure worthy of a 5 star rating? A lot of things actually. First off, the pier is privately owned so we can go fishing on the pier and only have to pay the 8 dollars per pole while not having to worry about getting a fishing license. The pier is great for fishing, we have caught Spanish Mackerel, Whiting, and other tasty fish. Another great thing about the fishing experience is the community that the pier brings. So many people are so knowledgeable there and can help you out and are super friendly, and it really adds to the experience. Attached to the pier is a store where you can buy new fishing poles, bait and different weights to get your line into the water. Every time we go, there are always instances where we have to cut our line because it got stuck in rocks, but also every time the people working at the shop are super helpful and patient and are willing to help replace our weights, hooks, even our entire line, for a price of course. Also inside the shop is an arcade and gift shop for any other entertainment purposes. They also sell ice cream for a very cheap price, which actually tastes really good especially on a warm and humid day. The pier is also good to just relax and enjoy a stroll on the coast. You don't have to pay to simply stroll and enjoy the views. It's definitely a great spot to find some pelicans or watch a sunset. If you're looking for something relaxing to do, something to entertain you or somewhere you can fish then this pier is the place to go! read more

This is fishing central. For $5 you can spend the entire day fishing from this very long pier that juts out over the Atlantic ocean. At 712 feet, there's plenty of room for plenty of people to fish. We even saw people that took their gear out there in a wagon pulled behind lawn tractors without the grass cutting blades. While we watched, only a few people pulled in fish - most of them small. My only concern was with the open railings that are worthless to keep a small child from crawling through or falling into the water many, many feet below. Hubby and I wanted to go fishing but we'd need to take the kids are we are too concerned that they'll fall overboard. They don't rent gear, but you can buy some things for a decent price. You can get bait of various types. You can also play pool, play arcade games, buy post cards, peruse the souveir items, grab a snack, admire the carved coconut monkey heads, check out the shell jewelery, etc. read more

This is a great pier to see the sunrise or sunset from if you want to stay away from the salt and sand. I've been down here many times and love this pier. OK pier to fish. Admin fee is $8.00 but sells poor fishing related items like, swivels and frozen shrimps. The swivels are freshwater quality and shrimps are very tiny and looked a half way boiled already. Did not get a single nibble on that shrimp! read more

Charming little beach town with an equally charming boardwalk and pier. While the emphasis is on great fishing, the pier also has other amenities, granted in a smaller scale. There's an arcade, bait shop, souvenir shops and all you need for a great beach trip without the crazy "out of towner, tourists" nonsense. It did seem to lack one very important necessity though. Maybe I'm just blind or bad with directions, but upon finishing up my pathetic attempt to body surf, I wasn't able to find an outdoor shower. So what's the next best thing? Wash down the car and the sand inside my shorts at the self serve car wash of course (damn out of towners). This was one of the few piers around that we could bring our dog along for a visit. Plenty of free parking and since you don't need to go through the shop to get to the pier, we strolled along with our pup and enjoyed the breeze and the view. Awesome old wooden pier. No admission charge to walk out on it. I have been a regular here for years and it's a must see! The amount of memories I've made here is insane. There's a jukebox (that updates music immediately if you email the company!), pool tables, a gift shop, a little arcade, and a fishing pier. Me and my cousins always shoot pool until midnight when we're on vacation. The atmosphere is always very friendly. There's free parking, some local restaurants out front, beach access, and of course the Fishing Pier! To get to onto the Pier you need to walk through the building that has an Arcade, Pool Tables, lots of souvenirs, jackets, hats, etc. This is also where you can rent your tackle and fishing gear and bait. What.. Why are you not on the Pier? So much fun excitement and friendly folks. But, you definitely should have been here last week., man were they biting. :) I spend a lot of time on the Pier but I'm no fancy king fisher or testosterone inflamed shark catcher. I catch the fish those boys use as bait, and boy do I eat good. Spot, mullet, croaker and blues... Damn now I'm hungry. About the Pier though and why you should be on it right now. It's well lit at night and there is a good fish cleaning station set up right on the pier. Benches are pretty comfortable to me as I think my ass was formed by them through my years of continued fishing from the location, but my wife said you should bring a chair. The guys who work in the pier house are always friendly even to the lowly non king fisherman or the normies who walk the Pier to see the beautiful scenery of to take pictures of the birds or rednecks. I've been coming for years and have never met the owner personally but have heard good things. There is no drinking on the Pier so its pretty tame most of the time and I always make friends every trip. Go to Kure Pier and see George the pelican, the rednecks and the fancy fancy king guys at the end, get some ice cream and just enjoy yourself. read more

Yes location is beautiful but the ratings are for the business not the location Requiring a $10 minimum credit charge or paying 4 dollars in ATM fees surmounts to highway robbery. I was the idiot for asking why they have a fee when the pier is packed with fisherman each dropping atleast $20 each to be out there. Clerks avoided me but flirted with their boyfriends. Very ackwardly experience, not a fisherman and such see no reason to ever return. I guess I'm the only one who thinks it's weird that you have to pay to just walk out on the pier. read more

A very nice place to walk out and take pictures. Have gone here for years. Just stand and enjoy the sights for twenty minutes. You can see shark at times in the water below. Areas only problem, not many condos allow dogs. Even "The Riggings" which is practically falling into the ocean. And they are right beside the dog friendly beach. Silly. read more

My favorite beach hands down. I've been going to this beach and this pier since I was a newborn baby. I am 28 years old now.. the same man that ownes and runs the pier is the same man who has it to this day. Such a very sweet and humble man. I seen a conflicting review on here where I believe the man gave it while he was having a bad day.. his review is simply false. It is one rod per person and it is so for many of good reasons. He has also updated his fishing regulations over the years were and when he sees fit for the safety of the pier, ocean, and ones whom are fishing. Also ive has some amazing fishing days catching very cool and interesting species.. and of course I always catch a baby shark every year for my yearly shark picture. As for the rest of the staff everyone of them have always been so kind and if you get the chance to speak to the older man on night shift he has the best advice for fishing; he can tell you what bait, what time of the day, which day, tide changes, and even where on the pier which side and where exactly to cast. This review is for the convenience store only at the pier. I do not fish so cannot speak for the pier. I living the in the area so I obviously love the beach. The store on the other hand is awful. The people who work in there are unfriendly and very rude. It's old, dirty and needs a complete overhaul. I'd rather take my business across the street to the gas station mart. We just stumbled upon this beach/pier when I just kept driving from Carolina Beach, looking for a boardwalk. The boardwalk was more like a path about 1.5 people wide. I am from up north and used to an actual boardwalk with shops and beach stores. I was able to park for FREE! Though we just missed the vendors that seem to close the little open air market/farmers market at 1pm. We went into the little store at the base of the pier and looked around. They seemed to have all the "beachie things" that one might want as souvenirs. With the sun blazing in the sky I got some ice cream for my kids We sat on a bench and enjoyed. read more

This pier has been operating since 1923. It is the oldest pier in the state of North Carolina. In all these years no child has fallen over the side, so far, Thank God! It has been rebuilt after hurricane damage at least two or three times. There is several water hoses located on the beach access walkway next to the pier on the northside.
