Gone are the days where people understood the concept that lots of patrons CAN attend a movie…read morewithout being disruptive. So what is disruptive? Cell phone screens and /or audio or chat. Unruly kids. Any kind of conversation during the movie. Anything that detracts from the movies entertainment value. Hell movie theaters used to have Valets that monitored the event and enforced the general rules for admission. Since the theaters have quit, it was good that streaming came along. Now we can watch new releases without rude interuptions from other people. Actually save money too. So theaters will eventually become a thing of the past. Just like drive in theaters.

This theater is one I went to when The Camelot Theater, The Keith Albee Movie Theater and Cinema Theater didn't have the movies I wanted to see. I don't know if they have upgraded the seating, but you might have heard of the term "Down In Front" spoken from time to time. I came to this movie theater once with a friend who did not like Valentine's day mainly because we were both single. Going to this mall or the movies was tricky at times. Mainly because the last bus was around 5 or 6pm. If you missed this bus you either had a car, took a cab back to campus or walked back to school. Still, there were times I chanced watching a movie at the mall. Then I had to rush to the bus station in a hurry. Great times:)

I visited for the Appalachian Queer Film Festival but would love to return for the other creative events and performances they host. It's clean and somewhat small, but in a dignified, intimate way. Intimate without being crowded. It was the perfect size for a small film festival, so when the mic malfunctioned, everyone was still able to hear what was happening on-stage. A couple suggestions I have are investing in the broken water fountain (would really love to not have to pay for water) and more sound absorbers in the theater itself. Although the sound quality was great, there were moments during films that I couldn't understand dialogue due to the resounding boom. I highly recommend attending an event here!

The short concrete trail was well maintained but couldn't make out where the branching trails were. Everything seemed to be overgrown which was kind of a bummer. Really enjoyed the firearms collection. Staff were very friendly and gave us a little tour of the conservatory which the kids loved. They also enjoyed the craft room and the gift shop. Would recommend it for a chill day out.

What little bit of the museum that I got to see was amazingly beautiful. I only got to stay at the museum for a little bit, because they were closing the museum at the time. The staff allowed me to stay inside with them long enough for the storm to finish blowing through. I hope to come back to visit again soon, because I would really like to get to go through the museum to see it in its entirety.

My telephone rang and I picked up the phone.  A female started talking to me and it didn't take long to know this was a prank call.   Soon a second voice came on the phone and we ended up talking for a long time. Eventually I ended up meeting both of these ladies at different times.   When I met the second of the two ladies, we met at The Place Theater aka Camelot Theater.    I honestly do not remember what movie I was supposed to see with her, but I know there was a mix up about which movie theater we were supposed to go to.  We did end up meeting again with the other girl on the phone at the same theater again.  I honestly liked hanging out with the more mature girl. She was surprised,  because most guys went with her friend the blonde.  Since The Camelot Theater wasn't really a place to talk a woman when the movie started, it gave me time to think about my questions and how to phrase them.    I never bought popcorn for myself, but I did buy food for the ladies.   It's fun to think that I was in fact part of history...as far as this movie cinema is concerned.  The three movie cinemas I use to go to have all become non existent from the way I remember them. I am glad I had the chance to see them in their former glory. It's a shame this place isn't around anymore.

This is a small museum and store near Carter Caves State Park. The collection is housed in an…read moreolder building that gives little indication after ones initial observations to separate it in time from the 1940's or 1950's. On closer inspection a single window air conditioner connects the property to more recent times. Our excitement builds! This is the kind of place that excited me as a child - the kind of place that has not been commercialized and sterilized by the expectations of modern pampering - the kind of place we anticipate exhibiting and selling unique items. My sons and I pulled into the gravel parking lot and could not have been more excited to stop. We were on our way to meets my parents for a visit at Carter Caves and decided to stop in just for a moment to give things a quick look. If it checked out we'd come back in a couple of hours for a complete tour. We were the only ones there at about 12:30PM. Wide variety of items immediately drew us in. The collection ranged from Native American through WWI, WWII, and Vietnam (and more and more). Some of the collection is exhibited in a library fashion such as the large collection of magazines and posters. The magazines and some of the exhibited items are for sale. Other portions of the collection, like most or all of the Native American exhibits are strictly not for sale. We spoke briefly with the owner, Mr. Jim Plummer, and we promised to return in time to enjoy the whole collection before he closed at 5PM. When we returned we went through the place as carefully as we could for perhaps 90 minutes. The boys enjoyed the dinosaur teeth and Megalodon teeth and began putting together their purchase requests. I spent a decent amount of time admiring the Nazi Germany items and the American Civil War items, but my real interest was with the Native American collection. I have been through many of Ohio's Native American museums many times including the Ohio Historical Society Museum, Serpent Mound, Fort Ancient, and the Hopewell Cultural National Historical Park (as well as Ohio County Museums) and this collection was spectacular in comparison. The artisan artifacts made of pottery, copper, and slate were fascinating. The emphasis of the collection was ceremonial items though a wonderful collection off utilitarian items was exhibited as well. This time we were one of perhaps three or four groups of people touring the museum and store. We we now required to share Mr. Plummer's attention with other folks interested in the original issues of Life magazine, Nazi knives, and a group of ladies very much interested in the modern collection of jewelry Mr. Plummer has for sale with the assistance of his girlfriend's artistic eye. Each lady seemed excited about their purchase and successively vied for Mr. Plummer's attention and his Southern charm. We look forward to returning soon and speaking more with Mr. Plummer. If you plan a visit, please be sure to engage him with questions about the exhibits. If you do you will be welcomed with a wealth of information from a knowledgeable historian. I am certainly a fan of this place, my rating is based off of the expectations and location. Obviously this museum in not on par with the Smithsonian Museum or the Musée du Louvre but my rating is based on comparable exhibits. The Native American collection would rate 5 stars.
