I have been coming here for years with friends and fam and the food has always been delicious. It is consistently good and I still really enjoy ordering from them, I will say that over the years it does not feel as good as it use to be in the past but it is still tasty and won't stop me from coming back lol. The reason for 4 stars is mainly the pricing and customer service. Customer service is hit and miss sometimes but most of the time good and friendly. We have had some moments where they seemed to not want to be bothered but that is ok. The main thing for me is I have noticed some newer competitors in the county are priced a bit lower and this place tends to be more expensive. Interestingly enough some of those places I would rate slightly higher were actually less expessive. I got sick from the food here. Chicken katsu has a strong carbon taste. My first time ordering it here. I thought maybe the oil was old or burnt, but stupidly brushed it off that I was imagining things. Well, I ended up paying for it in the bathroom later. I didn't eat anything else except this chicken katzu (and water) for about 10 hours before I got sick, so it likely could only have been from this dish. Do not waste time here. They skimp out HARD on portions. The spam in the spam masubi was cut thin AND short. They also hid rice under the meat to make it seem like you have more meat portions than what you really do have. For two combo plates and one masubi it was $48!! Basically paying that for all rice. The food was pretty good considering most combos or plates (about same size as chipotle back in the day) are under 20$ an you can select multiple options such as fried seafood or meat and grilled or marinated bbq. I would highly recommend as the staff are kind. However the wait time and the lack of a customer restrooms left me wanting basic necessities from a higher than average costing Hawaiian bbq. Not bad. The Coconut Shrimp is pretty good; not the best I've had but ok. Sadly that was the best part. The Mac salad is overpowered by too much onion so that you can't really taste anything else. The fries were stale and definitely not the crispy krinkle fries touted on the menu. Having a hard time believing this is the way they operate in Hawaii! My DoorDash order was delivered quickly but it was way more expensive than the regular menu. The shrimp alone cost $9.00 more for DoorDash. Big fan of the food here. Well, their hawaiian BBQ chicken. I have not tried any of the other proteins but their hawaiian bbq chicken is incredibly flavorful and moist. I do not generally eat chicken with the skin on but it is so good here it is hard not too. I opt for two scoops of mac and 1 of rice instead because the chicken already comes on top of rice. As a CCFS (certified comfort food specialist), I can tell you this place HUGS the soul (specifically this location). I recommend eating in person and going during slower times if you can. Staff here has been incredibly accommodating and nice; they always get my order right (Ventura store... meh, not so much). I love their combos and the fact that they have good gravy, sauces and the option to add an egg. The loco Moco hits the spot and makes me smile (not kidding). Something about their rice here-- can't put my finger on it but I really love it! Their Mac salad is probably one of my favorites around. The interior your typical stop and go place but it's comfy and I like that feel, anyway. Bonus is that it's in a huge shopping center so you can work off the calories. I don't understand why the employee working register (Asian women) has no sense of customer service. I ordered 2 meals. a chicken Katsu plate and a Kaluha pork plate. Once the order was ready she called my name over. I noticed she had already tied up the bag containing my lunch, so I naturally assumed she threw in Katsu Sauce for my meal. Well unfortunately there was no sauce whatsoever. No siracha, soy, OR KATSU SAUCE... this is now the second time this has happened when I've placed orders with her.. is she intentionally doing this?
