First glance you see a huge bar table which is nice.
We were…read moregreeted right as we came in. This place is kinda pricey for what it is. I saw the good reviews was very excited but it was underwhelming.
The waiter came to take our drink orders and he explained where their products came from. They try to get local products which is amazing! I love supporting local products! He was really nice and attentive throughout the whole service.
For drinks we ordered 3 Bloody Caesars,4 beers and a cocktail. The drinks came in a timely matter and the cocktail was very good.
The waiter brought mini Masson jars of Cajun like popcorn. Which was different in a good way.
For the entrees we ordered fries and mayo, cheese plate, portobello spinach and cheese, onion soup,arancini(+2$ when you order an entree) and beef tartar with foie gras poêlée(+6$). (Took 15 minutes before getting to the table)
The fries were average they kinda remind me of la belle province fries but less oily. The onion soup was really good very flavourful and creamy! The cheese plate was good once we got the plate the waiter explained the different types of cheese and their level of strength. The arancini lacked in flavour, you can say it was forgettable but The beef tartar with foie was excellent! The tartar was juicy, light and tangy. It was an amazing taste with the rich buttery foie gras.
For main courses, we ordered the trout, braised beef in a wine sauce and medium rare steak with fries. (Took 35 mins to come to the table). Very good sized portions. We tried to order the steak well done but they only cook it one way, which kinda sucks for people who don't eat medium rare.
The trout had a very good taste, there was no deep fishy, earthy taste which was great. The braised beef was okay, the taste of the wine was very potent. The meat was well cooked sous vide style, it was tender and broke off with a fork very easily but it was insanely chewy. The potatoes were well seasoned I love the pop of colour from the green onions, adds a nice colour and taste. The steak was perfectly seared and pink(medium rare). Although the steak was VERY tough which was very disappointing. The piece we had, had a lot of nerves which made it very difficult to cut through. All the plates had too many carrots haha. I get it's a side but instead of 5 long pieces 3 would have done the trick.
Overall it's ok, the tough steak, the overpowering sauce and the chewy beef was disappointing. Even if a place is more of a bar than a food place, the food should still be up to par with the quality of the drinks to not bring down the whole experience.
Overall I would give this place a 3.5, the tartar and the onion soup were by far the best thing, along with the fact that they support local products.
