This darling and refined establishment is owned by the chef and his wife, lovely people. The art is fascinatingly eclectic on the walls and the music selections were perfect - Sinatra, Natalie Cole, etc. First, the reception by our host was charming and gracious. Service was impeccable, yet relaxed. A glass of champagne started the evening. We both had the same meal: first, the pumpkin soup with foie gras was simply amazing with nuanced flavors and balanced richness. Our main course was sea breem cooked perfectly, and I still have yet to understand just how the fish maintained a good temperature throughout a leisurely meal, down to the last bite. The wine pairing was superb (suggestion of the hostess). Lastly, the chocolate mousse (my favorite desert - if I have had it once I have had it 100 times) was simply ethereal. It is hard to imagine a mousse so distinctly rich and flavorful while being so LIGHT. It was to marvel over! The kindness and cordiality of the owners was a veritable joy and added immensely to our enjoyment of the evening. It is rare to have a dining experience that is PERFECT in every measurable way. This was that rare event. We heartily recommend this lovely restaurant and cherish the opportunity to return again on our next trip.

Located in the old walled city of Grasse it's a short distance from the parfumeries that tourists both French and international love to visit. It's best to park at one of the three nearby parking lots and walk through the windy narrow streets to this restaurant tucked away in the former store rooms of a building. There are the amazing arched brick and stone ceilings and there is a nice cover patio in front perfect for relaxing and enjoy the Cote d'Azur weather. It's the kind of place Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware go to get inspiration. Very Provinciale. Specializing in cuisine traditionalle there is a nice selection of a la carte starters, mains and desserts as well as two 3 course prix fixe menu for 36 and 26 euro both with many choice for each course. The portions are larger than at most restaurants in France. There are equal selections with seafood and meat and even vegetarian main dishes, not always something easy to find in France. The starter were huge with my salad being loaded with lardons as well a cured duck and the warm goat cheese salad the French spouse was just the way it should be she said and since she grew up in Grasse I'll take her word for it. The mains were equally good with a lamb confit cooked en papillote in filo dough wrapping, served with potatoes gratin and a celery root and parsnip root mash. The French Spouse had a more regional dish which is a seafood stuffed with fish in a tomato broth, it was served with rice and the parnip and celery root mash. The dessert were huge and tasty. One was chocolate mousse cake with a base of Genoise layer with super light but still rich and chocolatey cake with more creme on top and served with a cup of warm chocolate sauce to pour over it. The French Spouse's lemon crepe was full of tangy lemon curd and served with a shot of kir. The place is filled with locals wanting an upscale but comfortable meal. There is a lunch time prix fixe for 13 euro. The dinner menu ranges from 6 to 20 euros per plate and has to the two prix fixe.

The owners wife was a one-woman show, who worked the entire restaurant, exemplifying her skills as a hostess, waitress, wine connoisseur, menu advisor and friend. She was very welcoming, entertaining and very helpful to us while we were there. And the wine she picked out for us was delicious. (She even helped us hail our Ubers at the end of the night, since all of us enjoyed a quite a bit of wine and could barely speak French). In addition to some of the best service we have ever received, the chef at Les Temps Des Mets is absolutely brilliant. All of us throughly enjoyed our meals, some of the most memorable being the spicy shrimp appetizers, sashimi style swordfish, shrimp lo mein, and tiramisu dessert. The old Lou Cigalon was a special place, but clearly the cost of staffing a restaurant to maintain his Michelin star drove him into bankruptcy. The good news is this lovely room in busy Valbonne has recently re-opened under new ownership and is well worth a visit for excellent food at a fair price. The new owners have been in business since summer 2010 and, to be honest, probably should have changed the name of the place. It is really no longer Lou Cigalon. But, what it is is quite good in its own right. Owned by a husband/wife (Maman et Pere) team (he cooks, she serves) the new owners provide a meal that is well prepared and even a bit innovative. We had Duck and Cod and both were delicious. Though, the duck might have benefited from a little more caramelization. The entrée was a duo of bacalao - Morue (dried cod) and Salmon. It was much lighter than the traditional potato & cream based bacalao and really delicious. Desert was a lovely bread pudding (a gateau Breton) of prunes. The service was friendly, but not intrusive, and the room remains exactly as it was before, charming and comfortable. In summary, while no longer a 1 star Gourmand experience, this is a delicious, above average, and very fairly priced (especially at lunch) respite from the usual tourist oriented fare that abounds in Valbonne.

For the main dish, we had the Scallop St. Jacques Plat which was beautifully cooked. The service was outstanding, attentive but not overly so.
