Don't leave without having traditional thick hot chocolate and churros! The rooftop lounge is open for breakfast, dinner and drinks. It was a gorgeous hotel and beautiful room, situated a couple blocks away from the main Poeta, right in the heart of the city center. When we checked in, they gave us a welcome glass of cava in their beautiful courtyard. Our apartment had a large bedroom with queen bed, big living room with two twin beds off that room separated by a curtain, balcony, huge kitchen, and they provided a large bowl of fruit which we re-stocked during our stay from the local markets. Rick Steves says Poeta "captures the essence of Sevilla," and is "timeless elegance, in the heart of Santa Cruz, an old 17th century family mansion; tucked away among cobblestone streets; 17 rooms surround a tranquil central patio where guests relax and enjoy free evening classical guitar concerts. Fantastic view terrace and traditional Andalusian design." Totally agree with all of that. We enjoyed the classical Spanish guitar in the courtyard each evening while enjoying a glass of wine or cava. Absolutely recommend and would love to stay here on every future visit to Sevilla. Great service, too. Carmen, who checked us in was so calm and welcoming. It had been a hectic travel day, and she (or maybe it was the glass of cava?) calmed us right down. The next day, we had an issue w/ our tickets to the Alcazar, and Jose helped us retrieve them, too. Our bathroom was beautiful, but the floor of the shower was very slippery. We informed the front desk, and they sent someone to our room when we were out. My younger daughter, who does not speak much Spanish, let him in, but did not understand what he was saying. He proceeded to pantomime someone slipping. She woke up our older daughter, who speaks more Spanish, and said a man with a clipboard was in the living room. She told him: "Mi padre es loco," he laughed and put some non-slip strips down in the shower. Great stay.

Why would we want to spray chemicals on us to repel insects in the room while we SLEEP? Also, there is mold in the crevices of the shower and there was a hair notably on the bed when we arrived. Reception didn't offer a solution for our issues nor allowed a refund. We are unable to sleep due to the heat and smell. This was disappointing-- we expected better.

It was quite noisy with the church bells ringing every 10 or 15 minutes at times, especially in the night, but if you can sleep through that, it's a great location. The cost was also quite reasonable (just over $100 per night). We stayed for 4 nights and got a deal through Capital One Travel for a discount.

Staff at check in was friendly, but didn't provide any additional information about the property's amenities. The hotel room was not large, but functional - they told us they do not have central AC in the rooms, only heating (despite this being a feature listed on their website), so you'll have to open a window for cooler air (would have been helpful to have a sign/note near the thermostat). The pool was supposed to be open when we stayed here, but we could never get access to it (door was always locked) and weather was pretty cold, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was closed instead, but signage should've been put up to indicate this. The shower was a half-door situation, and the floor was not graded properly to allow water to drain (it would pool in the area away from the drain instead), however the shower did have both a rainfall shower and handheld one. There was a floor tile popping up causing a minor trip hazard in our room, so the rooms are showing their age and wear & tear. Other than that, the room had good amount of cabinet and closet space, the sink counter space was pretty spacious and cleaning staff were prompt and efficient. Bed was decent and charging outlets were available near the bedside. Our room also included a small narrow desk with chair. I would stay here again for the location, just know the building and hotel itself is not the most modern, however very good price for value especially given the convenient location. We didn't have any major issues here and rideshare/taxi pick up was very easy in front of the building. It is also conveniently located right next to a large supermarket (Mercadona).

(Second alarm) We did ask for a different room and were given a room on the second floor with a small balcony. (Ray of hope?) My wife has asthma and each night smoke would come in through the vents and under the door from the hallway. We had no idea that a non-smoking hotel would have ashtrays in the hallways. Two mornings we went down to take advantage of the breakfast buffet. Now since this was not included in our package it would cost 8€ per person and would be added to our bill when we checked out. (No problem.) Truth is when we went to check out they charged us 16€ per day for our full stay and not just the two mornings we ate in the buffet. When I argued with them they stated that is their policy. If you eat in the buffet once you get charged for the entire stay. (Um...what??) Nothing special, but a decent hotel.
