This was my first dining experience in Valparaiso, Chile!
THE AMBIANCE:
La Armandita is the cutest thing. From the street you see this small, wooden building and the inside has so much charisma. The decor of La Armandita is full of culture and is vibrant with a splash of yellow on the walls. Oil artwork from known, Argentinian and foreign artists is displayed throughout the restaurant. It was late night and the restaurant was about to close but the staff at La Armandita welcomed us in with open arms.
THE FOOD:
This restaurant serves family-style Argentinian food. As per their online description, their specialty is "parilladas" and fine braised meats. They also serve cuts of meat like the traditional bife chorizo, filet, entrecot, asado de tira, and de-boned chicken in lemon. We started out with a Parrillada and chose the Prieta (blood sausage) and Chorizo. My first experience with a blood sausage was a funny one... I was in Madrid, Spain, and I had no idea I had taken a bite out of a blood sausage thinking it was chorizo. I remember being like, "this is really soft and doesn't taste like chorizo." When the server told me I was eating curdled pig's blood, I spit it out immediately. I think it was a "what?!" reaction and I didn't give it a chance. This time around I made the conscious choice that I was going to do this! I cut the Prieta in half and observed it. The curdled pig's blood looked semi-fluffy and I grabbed some of it with a fork and drew it towards me. It was actually pretty good! I decided not to think about it and enjoy some more of it. I did not regret it! The Prieta was actually better tasting than the Chorizo.
We also ordered an Agregado (side dish) of Choclo con Crema (creamed corn) and Papas Fritas (fries). I really liked the Choclo con Crema. It was really, really good. I washed it all down with a nice cold beer, specifically the Cerveza Torobayo Kuntzmann, which was my favorite beer in Chile, and I was a happy girl.
