Been going to La Baguette for as long as I can remember. I usually get their sliced pound cake for a little pick me up during my shopping trips. I've tried lots of varieties, like marble, blueberry, seasonal flavors etc. and they're all good. They also offer a lot of different baked goods and cakes, and every food item I've tried has been good. I personally do not recommend their coffee though as the few times I've tried their drinks have all come out to be inconsistent (sometimes too sweet, too much milk, bitter espresso). read more

We were looking for a pastry after getting coffee around the corner. Plenty of options here in the forms of pastries, cakes, baguettes, even sandwiches. Opted for a cheese danish and a butter croissant. When it was our turn to order the cashier provided a straightforward transaction. Grabbed our pastries placed them on the table we paid and she moved on to the next. We walked out and when we sat down noticed she gave us the wrong pastry. No croissant in sight. We were too far down to go back and get the right item. The cheese danish was not flaky which was a bummer. Very sweet glaze. The shop is set up nicely with all their offerings. I was here for a stroll with the family. We got a little hungry so we decided to grab something to eat. La Baguette was close to the center of Stanford Shopping Center and that's where we were so here we are. The inside was pretty small, you can probably fit about 5-6 people in line and that's squeezing everyone. You don't have anywhere to sit, however there are some outdoor seating available so ya. It's more or less a take it to go type of a place. The service is well, not much. Besides them taking your order, they tell you to wait outside of the place at a designated pick up location and that's about it. I got the: Turkey Parisian (4 / 5) - The cheese is melted inside along with your turkey. There are lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles on the side where you may use them however as you wish. The French Baguette has a little bit of sugar powder sprinkled on top of it. It does give the overall presentation a better look and with it, a different taste with sweetness and saltiness at the same time. I liked the combination of how they've done it, but this mix of taste is really personal preference in my humble opinion. Service (3/5) - I can't say they were friendly. There were three or four people behind the counter, they want you to wait outside on the side of the store. If you didn't know where it is like me, you better not ask twice because the "evil look" is coming! I can't imagine anyone's a big fan of that, haha. If you end up here in Stanford Shopping Center, you really don't have much of a choice on food and the selection of restaurants are limited. Yes, be ready to shell out the big bucks because you are in one of the most expensive part of this country with not much choices and guess what? The restaurants themselves know it too. They had a really great selection of pastries and desserts, everything looked so pretty and delicious! We came here one day when passing through Stanford shopping mall and it was mediocre at best. I got a 16 oz Matcha Latte and the Jalapeno bread. The Jalapeno bread was ok, but definitely not fresh. The bread was hard (despite being heated up) and had a weird aftertaste. The Matcha too was way too milky and the powder was collecting on the bottom. The service was also exceptionally slow, we had waited over 10 minutes for the 1 drink and 1 bread. This bakery cafe seems very popular, often with lines out the door. Their advantage is clearly location, at a central location within Stanford Shopping Center, with a lot of foot traffic. I decided to stop by when it was quieter and there wasn't much wait. I ordered a 12 oz Caramel Macchiato ($6.30). The coffee was average. Perhaps their food is better. I didn't pick up any pastries or cakes during this visit because we were heading to lunch elsewhere. They add a 4% Palo Alto living wage fee to all orders. No seating or restrooms inside. Do you ever look at yelp and go somewhere and wonder how in the world that place got a low or high rating? Well, that is the case here at La Baguette. Currently they have about a 3.5 star rating but this is at least a 4.5 star place! The quality of their pastries and desserts and sandwiches is top-notch. If you have ever been to Paris like I have, you know that the quality of what they bake is on par with what you might find there. Probably a touch sweeter to match the American palette. But oh so good. FOOD: they have a really wonderful selection of both sweets and sandwiches. Especially for such a small corner shop, they do a very impressive job of providing lots of different options. So far, everything we've had has been really good. We've tried their danishes, their poundcake, their cookies, and some of their sweet treats. This is also my daughter's favorite place to get a sandwich! Try the ham and Swiss Parisian. SERVICE: considering the volume that they do every day and the quick turnaround, I'd have to say that their service is excellent. I'm extremely forgiving when it comes to macarons. Sure, I have my favorites, but it doesn't ruffle my feathers if some are made differently than the standard. I've come to La Baguette a couple times for theirs which are certainly an anomaly in the world of meringue sandwich cookies. Taller, fluffier, & more airy than I'm used to which means they also aren't as chewy as I like. Much stronger flavor profiles when I purchased pistachio, lavender, lemon, & chocolate on my first visit. I have been a loyal customer of this bakery/café for about 8-9 years -- literally buying my daily coffee here and ordering birthday cakes for my family. Today, my coffee spilled all over my coat and bag because the lid was not secured properly by the staff. However, what truly shocked me was not the spill, but how the situation was handled. When I informed the manager, instead of apologizing, I was told that I should "check it myself next time." When I requested a refund, the staff became hostile and told me to "never come back." Hearing that as a long-time regular customer was extremely insulting and disappointing. No business should treat any customer -- especially a loyal one -- in such a disrespectful way. This is a small bakery located right in the middle of the Stanford shopping center. I really like their sandwiches! I would come here and order their sandwiches with their soup of the day at least once a month. The soup as dip with the heated sandwich (ask them to heat it up) is so gooood! This is a tiny little shop that's just big enough for a small handful of customers. Service could have been better, with long lines it seems there isn't a need to work at a quicker pace but maybe that is part of the experience. 5 stars for the jalapeño bread! It looks like a giant bagel but sort of stretch out so you get more surface area for toppings. I got this warmed up and it was served in a little pizza box sliced into strips instead of triangles. My family and I were walking around Stanford Shopping Center one weekend morning when my mom wanted a snack. My family loves pastries and we saw a line for La Baguette, so we went inside to see for ourselves. The inside of the store is too compact for seating, but you will see a good amount of tables, chairs, and umbrellas just outside the store in the middle of the large walking space. La Baguette had two large displays, one with cakes and cake slices, another with the baked goods and a few sandwiches. We paid at the counter and asked for our croissants to be heated, so we were given a number and instructed to wait outside for our order to be called. We bought two croissants, one plain and one filled with ham and cheese. Both were ginormous and thus perfect to split among four people. The staff conveniently split them in half without us asking. They were sooooo crispy and flaky that they're impossible to eat without getting crumbs all over. The texture inside was really soft, not the generally dense texture my average croissants are from all the butter. We had a good amount of ham and cheese in ours, and you get a thin layer of cheese crust on top of the croissant itself. Overall, La Baguette is a great pit stop for our morning in the area. I thought about getting the sandwiches, but they looked heavy on the bread and light on the filling. I will probably stick to their croissants! read more

This day was hot, so I wasn't feeling of drinking a cup of hot coffee, but I was in a dire need of caffeine. On the wall closest to the door, it posted what seems to be limited or seasonal drinks. The iced coconut latte caught my attention, so on top of ordering some of the pastries I got myself the iced coffee drink. The iced coconut latte was served with whipped cream on top and chopped up coconut flakes. what I appreciated about these coconut flakes was that they were cut finely to pass through a straw. Most of them didn't go to waste, so as a coconut fan, this was a nice touch. The pastries we bought were the apple danish, the raisin bread, the almond croissant, and apis, and the baguette. Generally, the breads look dense but are light upon eating. Seldom there are holes created by yeast fermentation. the apis is the lightest, almost like eating a soft cracker that fills you up. I like how it is formed like wheat (the plant) so we tore it apart by the little corners. I was impressed with the almond croissant of its size. I have seen another bakery that serves a croissant that huge, but it is rare. The croissant is flaky on the outside and soft and chewy in the inside. I am quite biased when I write this, but I just love their Parisian sandwiches!! I will never fail to stop by La baguette when I am in the Stanford Shopping area. I am a huge fan of the simplicity and deliciousness of their ham and Swiss Parisian (ham, Swiss cheese, butter and sweet French baguette). It comes out as about a foot long, and you get the option to have it toasted there or just buy as is. 10/10!
