Really not sure why this place has good reviews. It was terrible . I had fish and shrimp taco. No flavor what so ever . Also had the carne asada fries . More like a kids meal if you ask me . My buddy asked for a burger and his bun was burnt and he described it as a hockey puck. Other buddy ordered the fajitas and was nothing but bell pepper. Really disappointed in this restaurant. we all left hungry and unsatisfied. I'd like to recommend a lovely little local restaurant I dined at yesterday and was very pleased with. La Bamba Mexican restaurant is nestled behind the Holiday Inn resort near the village on Bonanza Trail. I met the owner, Carlos and his lovely daughters, who help with the service. I did not realize that La Bamba has been under new ownership since right before Covid. The previous owner had a lot of bad reviews for attitude problems and subpar food. So this is not that restaurant or owner. Same name, new owners, incredible food. it was just me and my friend. She ordered a beef burrito sauce on the side. I ordered the chicken fajitas plus guacamole. The beef burrito was more beef than anything else and enough for two people! My fajitas were absolutely delicious with the right balance of veggies and meat and a big enough portion that I took some home after making myself three large tortilla fulls. The guacamole was beautiful, tasty, and very fresh. The beans and rice were quite good. The chips and green salsa are all homemade like everything else on the menu. Carlos and his family pride themselves on using family recipes and everything being very fresh. Nothing out of the can or out of the freezer. So please support this little business, a local family, that managed to survive opening right before Covid. It is authentic, friendly, and yummy! read more

Probably the best Mexican food I found in Big Bear. After a long day of riding we were definitely hungry. The owner Omar came out to say hello and recommended a few dishes. My family found this restaurant away from the main big bear roads and what we would call the big bear strip. The food was fantastic but what will steal your heart away is how kind this family is who runs this restraunt. Layla is a sweet girl who is very attentive to the customers and so friendly. Her mother cooks the best home cooked Mexican food. My wife, my 4 year old daughter, my best friend and myself liked this place so much we came back for breakfast the next morning. Please ignore OLD reviews as the owners now are not the original owners! We own a vacation rental company up here and recommend this place all the time. This restaurant is one of my two favorite Mexican restaurants for the food. Although they may not have a full bar they do have beer and wine and the food is amazing. Truly family owned, truly family run. It is what they call one of those hole in the wall type places and worth searching out. Many of the dishes when eating them, make me feel like I am actually in Mexico. The service is amazing as the make you feel like friends from the get go. I will also add that many of their dishes are definitely on the spicy side, which we love, so be prepared. read more

Therefore, we were okay with our 20 minutes drive to this location. However, this time it took them around 20 minutes to start paying us some attention, due to them serving a party of 8. We visited Big Bear 5/24/20 to support business up there. This place is under new ownership. We have never ate there before. The place is quaint, nice music playing and not super loud. We were seated immediately. This is a family owned business. Because of the closures due to COVID 19 they were left with no employees. They just took ownership in November 2019 so they didn't qualify for the stimulus. Their customer service was excellent. We ordered the wet carne Asada burritos, chilaquiles, nachos and a salad. Service was great but food was not impressive. Beans were weird tasting and very runny. I had a ham Torta with a side of rice ( no taste) and beans in which was not included with the sandwich. AVOID. Multiple levels of poor quality - Customer Service: snappy, rude woman at the front taking our order. They have a sign in the front that says they take Amex, so I gave her my Amex and she gave us significant attitude while telling us they don't take it. Food quality: we ordered 4 burritos. 3 of us took two bites and, fortunately, threw the burritos out after. The one who ate the burrito was sick shortly after. They also charged us extra to add cilantro. Who has ever been charged extra for cilantro? For price, customer service, and food quality.. terrible bang for buck. We're from San Diego, so we love our Mexican food. When we arrived in Big Bear, we rushed around to pick up ski rentals and had two very hangry & whiney toddlers in tow. We were in need of something quick and nearby the Holiday Inn in The Village. Tucked away, behind the hotel, was this great little Mexican restaurant - no wait either! It's quaint and reminds us of the family-owned Mexican restaurants back home! We split the Bamba Burrito, an asada & chorizo package of deliciousness - get it "wet" (if you can't decide between red or green sauce, they'll do both!) We also halved the Asada Torta, which was a perfect sandwich - the bread was delicate, buttery, the beef was tender and well seasoned, and the fresh lettuce and avocado completed the dish (served with fries and a blistered jalapeño). Amazing, and these are legit huge, splittable for sure! The kids enjoyed a Bean & Cheese Burrito. They practically inhaled it. The young lady at the register was very polite and gave great recommendations, prices are very reasonable, and they have a great selection of Mexican sodas and beers. Whenever we visit Big Bear, La Bamba will be one of our go-to places for some good ol' comfort food! read more

The good: Small little restaurant with home cooked vibe. It'd have been a 3 star review for the food and music but the cook/owners attitude dropped it down. The chips were so good. The lemonade seemed freshly made. The carnitas plate was flavorful even if the rice was cold. The problems: Not greeted upon entering just told to pick a table. Brings us menus and immediately asks if we're ready to order. Um no give us a minute. She then takes our orders like she's doing us a favor. The only other people there says thank you and good luck to her, she ignored them. A party of 16 walks in and she informs them loudly that she's adding gratuity to their tab even if they all split it. Fine but maybe say that after greeting them? Another couple walks in right after that and she actually says nope not here no more room for you. This lady needs some etiquette cuz her food isn't that great.
