"The Adventures of Tintin" is one of the most influential comics of the Western world. The comic series was published from the 1930's up until the 1970's collected by 24 graphic novels. It stars the eponymous Tintin, a journalist who goes on all sorts of interesting adventures all around the world. He is accompanied by his wire fox terrier Snowy (Milou in the original French) and other recurring characters. Despite some of the (as of 2019) controversial themes present, especially in the first four books, Tintin is so beloved in Europe that some authors dedicate entire studies to it. Tintin is considered one of the main icons of Belgium as a whole. I didn't grow up on Tintin nor European comics, but I was exposed to the other main graphic novel format in the form of Japanese manga growing up so I have an appreciation for the art form. Doing my research for the Belgium/Netherlands trip I knew that Tintin was popular and I had to get something Tintin-related during my travels. What I didn't know was that this store existed and I stumbled on it on my first day in Brussels. It helps that it's located on a main street that links the Grand Place and the central train station. Since this is the official Tintin boutique store it's assumed that you know the basics about the series though there is little information present. If you want to know more about Tintin the Belgian Comic Strip Center has a section that details the entire history of the series. LOTS of Tintin merchandise to your heart's desire but it's concentrated into a few types - books, figurines and apparel. Since the books are all in French I decided to get a mini figure of Tintin in an astronaut suit from "Explorers on the Moon" (€6) and a shirt that depicts the various icons from the series (€30). Surely beats your typical magnet and shot glass souvenirs.

Right next to it is an Art & Paintings Stall..featuring most of the buildings in the Square...... The common Red poppy is the national flower of Belgium and we had passed a whole field of it driving through. It is very attractive as an ornamental plant but also is believed to be a source of both drugs & food, like Poppy Seed for baking. They also have the Perewinkle, Pink with deep purple edges, Lilly of the Valley, Hyacinth, Belgian Mums and the Wild Strawberry. We have almost all of the fruits they have, I think we have more selections here in the US. I don't see them having the Lychees & Dragon Fruit and the Persimmons but their Apricots are sweeter & the color is like deep orange. The Lady Pink apple was also sweet and their champagne Grapes are so delicious. I couldn't help but buy some to munch later in the hotel. Also passed a lot of vineyards along the way. All of the establishment, houses, restaurants, hotels around have a variety of colorful flowering potted plants boxed hanging on all their windows and in their entrances. I take it as a sort of or symbol to welcome people in....probably....at least that was how I interpret it...and the feeling is good...

It was also brighter and less crowded than other nearby shops. I found the perfect gift to buy my friends from home. Unfortunately the chances of some of them reading this review are rather high (they yelp and stuff), sooo I'm going to keep the content of my purchase quiet. I will say I bought seven of the top-secret items (in different colors...but still. #squad) for 48€ total. If you're in the Grand Place area, this is certainly a worthy stop.

This souvenir shop has many of the things that are similar in other souvenir shops but they were located on a corner further down from the main square so less packed. They have a solid variety of clothing and goods but I specifically was looking for the onesie and a few postcards. Purchased a onesie and 6 postcards for 17.75 Euro. The staff here were helpful but I found that the rude people were other tourists. They way they cut in line and pushed out in front of me did a Ratatouille flashback to my Chinatown adventures. No wonder Americans get a bad rap. My peeps were rude in that store. Thanks for embarrassing me and the country, idiots.
