Last nite we meet up w/a few new friends that lives in Bordeaux for a long time and asked us where we wanted to eat and of course I said "anything French". They decided to take us here. When first i saw it, it look like any other Brasserie here but we walk thru the "entrance" and their were a whole new world to discover. There were a tiny little restaurant inside, there were tons of antiques to look and buy and there were the bar right in front of everything. They asked us if we had reservation and we say no so we had to wait 10min for the next table. Finally we got seated and look over the menu and everything was in French(ding ding, that is a bonus). Our waiter/waitress speak French(ding ding #2) but lucky we were w/2 French people who help us read our menu and talked w/our waiter/waitress. I decided on the set course of $17.50 euro that include appetizer, entree and dessert. So I got the canard(duck) inter-organ walnut salad for my apps and a canard(duck) confit w/mushroom and a foie gras for my entree and a creme brulee for dessert. My gf wanted the oyster but they ran out so she decided just to skip dinner and drink Bordeaux white wine. One of our friend got some French fries and beef capacioco. Our other friend just got the smoked salmon. Oh yeah I decided on a half bottle of Bordeaux wine(8.60 euro)for me and it was the best wine I had so far on my trip. My salad came out first and my eyes just light up seeing sooooooo much duck organ meat and it was super warm. One bite and i just smile because it was simply amazing and tasty too. Ok the plate didn't look gorgerous but the simple execution of the plate won me over. I ate the whole things up and even share it w/my table because it was way too much to finish on my own. Oh I added more salt, pepper and tobasco sauce on my salad and the 2 French friends told me that I been hide it before the Chef see you lol Guess adding some hotsauce is a no no here hehe Next came out everyone plate and my entree look average looking but one bite it was sooooo RICH that I barely can finish another bite plus I was stuff from the salad already. I asked for some foil paper from the waiter and his eyes just drop. I guess it isn't typical to take home food here in France and they don't really have container to hold your left over so I asked for just foil paper and the waiter wanted to do it himself but I insisted to do it myself(who know what they will do to my food lol)
Everyone enjoy their dishes and finally when my creme brulee came out at the end, I just share it w/everyone.
I have to say, this is the most FRENCH meal that I had so far and I was loving every moment. If our friends didn't take me here, i wouldn't ever experience this. My dinner was PRICELESS!!! read more
