Food was great but the atmosphere was terrible. A very rude and obnoxious woman arrived and dominated the entire restaurant, normally I understand this is a patroon and it is what it is and when you complain you hope the manager would politely ask the person to be more respectful, but the owner clearly knew her- and encouraged her loudness even well noticing we were upset. Both the servers apologized to us and the one behind us- but that was as far as it went. It was a lovely meal but when you have to ask your dinner guest to repeat what they said 3 times- that's simply ridiculous. Cheerful and very friendly service from the staff, they pay so much attention and are very helpful with any questions. Italian food at it's finest, they only use the freshest ingredients and serve large portions that leave you unable to make fast movements for the next 2 hours ! You will always feel like it's a home away from home since it is a former residence turned into the restaurant that it is today. What a disappointment. I took my parents for Mother's Day and was so excited for them to enjoy an amazing meal. The preset menu was a surprise. All other restaurants I looked at had the Mother's Day menu on their website. Had I seen this, I would have gone elsewhere. The service, as always, was fantastic but the main meal was horrifying. I had the ravioli. I could not tell the ravioli from the sauce it was so mushy..,the whole thing had the texture of baby food. My guests had the veal and the vegetables were so overcooked they were awful. The gravy in the meat was like wallpaper paste. The preset menu was obviously cooked in advance. It was terrible and I was embarrassed to introduce my family to such an experience. Save your $400 and find a restaurant that knows Italian and does it well. I won't be back. read more

La Brezza at 990 1st Ave NE in Calgary is a small, casual neighborhood restaurant serving lunch and dinner. It's an indoor restaurant and not noisy. Not fancy, good portions, and good service. Entrees range $18-25 for pasta dishes and 29-34 for steak or salmon. Lots of tempting choices My wife and I had dinner at La Brezza and really enjoyed it. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our service was prompt and friendly. My wife ordered an Italian chardonnay $10 suggested by the waiter and I had an Italian beer $7. We split a Caesar salad. My wife ordered cannelloni and I had the veal parmigiana. Both entrees came as ordered accompanied by fresh vegetables and were delicious. Nice presentations, and good portions. Service was very friendly and prompt. Our overall experience was very good. With wine, beer, salad, tax and tip our dinner expense was $115. read more

This is my husband's and my favorite Italian restaurant in the city. The food is all traditional and prepared by the owner's wife's aunt, who comes from Italy. It has that home-made family quality that is hard to find in a restaurant. If it is available, I strongly recommend the eggplant appetizer. it melts in your mouth and is all that good eggplant must be. Second to that I recommend the bruschetta. I am completely addicted to the cannelloni and order it every time I go. The rosee sauce is light and delicious. The wine list is short, but we've never been disappointed with what we've ordered. read more

I have been to this place twice, the first time I had a good experience the last not so good. The first time I went into this place was July 2011 and the food along with the service was excellent. Last night after running errands and maybe not being dressed in my Sunday best, I had a hankering for take out pasta and I remembered how good the food was so I dropped into the restaurant to order take out. I was in the place for about 10 minutes with my wife and several of the waiting staff looked us up and down then completely ignored, just a simple acknowledgement "Hi, we will be right with you" would have been good, so we walked out. The only difference between when I ate in a year early and last night was the clothes I was wearing. I am appalled with this kind of judgement and as a result will never return to this restaurant. The great shame of it is that I live around the corner and know for a fact the food is good but I will not stand for being treated in that way. read more

Quite possibly the best risotto in Calgary. If it's anywhere on the menu or the specials, order it! This is a family run cozy relaxed resto with great rustic Italian food. The kitchen is run by a mother-daughter duo from Naples and they know what they are doing. Finish your meal with a house made lemoncello, espresso and a tiramusu. Awesome. Be sure to ask for the chili oil to add a little heat to your pasta dishes. There will be no leftovers. read more

I took my daughter here for her 12th Birthday. My son said the Lasagna was the best he has ever had and finished everything on his plate. My daughter said the Fettuccine Alfredo was to die for and I had Mama's Manicotti, which was heavenly! The service was amazing and Antonio presented my daughter with a piece of Tiramisu with a candle on it and sang her happy birthday. What a treat to have such exceptional service and amazing food. Very over priced for what you get. $20/plate and $100 for a bottle of wine and you can't even put fresh bread on the table (hey not even stale bread). We paid for the bruschetta but the bread was rock solid and the little container of bruschetta left a lot to be desired. The pasta, well I can cook it for less than $5 and certainly was not a "creation" as they advertised. It came out right away and was not fresh. I can't understand why people like it here. This really can't be the best in Calgary... give me a break. The service was awful, and they had no idea that they were working at a high end restaurant. One server was sitting at a table on her iPhone with her shopping bag sitting on the table. The ambience was awful with no music and the room felt a bit like sitting in a doctors office. read more

The Italian meal i've been searching for! I seriously couldn't stop eating as i didn't want to waste one morsel! The brushetta was tasty, the calamari PERFECT, the Vitello perfectly cooked and so delicious. The restaurant was still quite busy even though our party came close to closing time...but were we turned away...NO! You truly feel welcome and comfortable in this quaint place. The service was great and the chef even checked on us. Filomena the owner (had to google the spelling...and found a picture of her and her late husband with ROD STEWART!!...YES...ROD!!!!) anyway, Filomena is absolutely charming and lovely. La Brezza must be the victim of Calgary's minimum wage hike, because the prices on the dinner menu for Mother's Day,2018, were $5 higher than the prices posted on their website. We chose this restaurant on the basis of the positive reviews,but I predict they will go out of business soon if they cannot start delivering what they used to. The six of us found their portion sizes to be downright stingy, and the food was just OK. The eggplant parmigiana($19)for an appetizer was much anticipated. When it came,it was 3"x3" square. The much-vaunted calamari was disappointing,as well. The calamari were just bare,served in an overly salty tomato sauce,and for $14(we ordered two) there were no more than 10 small soggy rings per plate. When I complained about the portion sizes for the appetizers(six people were starving!) both the manager and the waiter got all superior and acted as if we didn't know anything about Italian food.(We have all been to Italy.) These were meant to be "appetizers" and therefore were deliberately skimpy so as not to ruin your main course. Silly me,for not going along with being ripped off! After much discussion,another 3x3 square of eggplant was produced at no charge. I ordered a salad($11) which again was small and consisted mostly of romaine lettuce and balsamic dressing. I could count the tomato slices and cucumber slices(3). The main course(cannelloni) was tasty,but again,skimpy. There were 2 small rolls on the plate--nothing else. They were sauced with plain tomato sauce and very little cheese. By this time,along with beer($7/bottle) our bill was climbing into the $60/per person range, so we declined dessert($10) or coffee. We did get fresh roses for Mother's Day,and that was a nice touch. Three hours after we got home, I am embarrassed to say I had to make some big sandwiches,because we all left that place over $250 poorer, but STILL HUNGRY. You cannot charge these kinds of prices without actually delivering generous portions of food! It will be a long time before I am enticed by internet reviews to visit one of these "quaint" family restaurants in Bridgeland. In the current economic environment, fine dining of any kind,including Italian, is only for the truly rich. read more

I went to La Brezza for dinner today (Nov 2013) and I was sadly disappointed. I went with my girlfriend. We ordered the "Prosciutto & Melon" for the appetizer - that was simply three huge slices of cantaloupe with pieces of prosciutto carelessly draped around the melon chunks - I seriously could have made that myself and I'm far from being a chef...they could have presented it much better by at least cutting up the huge slices of melon into smaller presentable pieces. Okay, then I had a glass of the house chardonnay - terrible....I could barely drink it. My second glass of white was a blend (sauvignon pinot? the waitress suggested it) and it was no better. My girlfriend had the blueberry tea (grand marnier, amarettto with tea) which she was okay with thankfully. Our entrees - I had the veal scallopini ("Piccata Al Limone") and my gf had the special swordfish. My veal was okay....a bit sour....but my gf's swordfish was terrible - it was not fresh at all and we have had swordfish all over our travels in North America (Tommy Bahama in the States has amazing swordfish and I think the best we had was at Eddy V's in San Diego). The pasta that comes as a side with your entree is a joke - it's nothing special at all especially for an Italian restaurant. At least our waitress removed my gf's entree off the bill since she noticed my gf barely touched her entree. Just very very disappointed. I don't know how this restaurant has such a high rating. Even the service is mediocre - the waitress we had lacked any sort of enthusiasm. I don't have another Italian restaurant suggestion in Calgary since I am from Toronto....but Broken Plate restaurant in Calgary is amazing - I had their Lobster Ravioli yesterday (along with appetizers and their Kendall Jackson Chardonnay is very drinkable) and it just blows La Brezza out of the water.
