At a glance La Brioche Dorée looks like a run of the mill chain establishment and perhaps to the French it is. I was impressed by the range of brioche (which was indeed beautifully golden as the name suggests) and other baked goods on offer and decided to take a risk and try. I think my laziness and hunger got the better of me as there was probably a "proper" bakery very close by but I'm glad I gave in and bought a large brioche for breakfast and a bag of chouquettes.
From the minute I ripped the head off the brioche I knew it was going to be good. Deliciously rich and buttery I ate it with lashings of salted butter and then wished I had bought the chocolate brioche to try as well. The chouquettes were not bad, perhaps a bit softer and doughier than I'd like them to be but enjoyable nonetheless.
As chain stores go I am very impressed with La Brioche Dorée. My experience there is much more favourable than my couple of visits to Paul's whilst in Nantes and would definitely recommend it of you're looking for a no fuss, delicious brioche. Oh and if you're lucky like I was there could even be a promotion where the brioche is buy one get one free :) even better! read more
