Location-5/5 This location sits right around the corner of the Cathedral Basilica and all the candy and souvenir stands. Perfect to dine and then take a walk around. Space & cleanliness-3/5 Over the years this popular location has expanded in size. Regardless, this place gets super popular during peak times and tables are often placed too close together. Bathrooms have been remodeled from recent years and are very clean. Food and beverage-5/5 Lastly, let's talk about the food! This restaurant offers full and half size portions in fish, shrimp, and octopus dishes. There are so many base flavors to choose from such as a la diabla, al mojo de ajo, al mango etc. and they're all very delicious. For shrimp dishes the full portion contains 18 shrimp, while the half size contains 12 shrimp. Highly recommend trying the marlin tostadas and the micheladas with seafood (michelada preparada). Aguas frescas vary depending on availability but I recommend trying the cucumber drink with chia seeds. Service-4/5 Because my family usually dines when it's the busiest, we do experience some slow service. Regardless the quality of seafood makes up for it. Just have some patience! :) Enjoy your meal, and viva Mexico!

This review is about La Mariskeña at Plaza Mayor---…read more La Mariskeña operates on an entirely different level. First, the location. After doing some shopping at the mall, the restaurant is just one minute away--convenient, accessible, and perfect for a spontaneous meal. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. The view from inside the restaurant is impressive and adds so much to the experience. Second, the staff. The service is exceptional. The team is attentive, fast, kind, and truly knowledgeable about their menu. Wanting to try something new, I ordered a shrimp cocktail I had never tasted before, La Fiera. After giving it two or three tries, I realized it wasn't for me. I asked our waiter if I could change my order, and he kindly checked with the manager. They happily agreed. Moments later, the manager, Paco--a very likable and friendly man--introduced himself, cleared our table, and even prepared our carajillos. Emiliano, our waiter, was outstanding from start to finish. Third, the food. It is simply out of this world. If it fits within the word "seafood," they probably have it here. We ordered the seafood soup, a traditional shrimp cocktail, and both octopus and fried shrimp. Every dish was superb. A quick warning: their salsas are extremely hot--delicious, but proceed with caution! I highly recommend La Mariskeña and fully intend to visit again in the future.
