Hi this is an enjoyable Mexican dinner place easy to visit. Friendly service and clean. There are some unique dishes and heat level is "suburban Wisconsin". Some fun entertainment for kids too. Very welcoming. Ingredients seemed fresh and good quality. Tactical design mistake is a fluorescent lamp in the bar area that reduces coziness. It won't bother anyone in the dining areas. A great spot to meet with friends, in a spacious and clean dining room. Service was OK, you pay at front counter after your meal. Meat was hot and veggie toppings were fresh. Food is consistently good and large portions for the price. We've ordered take out a few times because it's so close to home and orders are always correct. My son loves getting enchiladas, I get steak fajitas, my husband and youngest boy get the burrito California (which is huge!!!) and my daughter gets the vegetarian platter with quesadilla and chalupa. We've also gone in and had margs with our dinner before and they were pretty good. The only downfall is timing can be off-- I showed up 10 minutes early on a whim and food was already sitting out packaged up by the front door. read more

Wow, I was so impressed with this place! I've been in twice now and they just recently opened. First off, the whole place looks amazing. This is one of those buildings that places seem to come and go, failing for whatever reason. It wasn't in the best shape. La Cantina complete repainted inside and out, nice new furniture, great attention to detail everywhere you look. The atmosphere is great. Both times I have visited I have had the Enchiladas Lemon Lime. I'm NOT a fan of regular enchilada sauce, but they came with a creamy lemon/lime sauce atop two enchiladas filled with the most flavorful and delicious chicken, seasoned perfectly. The margarita here are also excellent. I've had the Texas Margarita. It does not disappoint. The first visit, the staff was definitely a bit flustered. They were extremely busy and just recently opened. The second time, they seemed to smooth out some of their hiccups and had the swing of things. Quality of food remained the same times - fantastic. Excellent prices for the amount of food you get. Prepare to have tasty leftovers. Right now I'm hooked on pork carnitas, but they have a dish called Cristoval's special that's also really good. One of the best burritos I've ever had! It was filled with delicious carne asada meat, topped with red sauce and queso, and the salsa was phenomenal! It didn't look promising going in, huge piles of bird poop were just outside the door. The tile floor stuck to the bottoms of my shoes, both the front counter and the bar was a disorganized, dirty mess. On a plus note, the tap beer was ice cold and tasted fresh. Food was average at best. read more

Really delicious food here! My favorite has been anything with chicken - they put something delicious in their chicken seasoning and it's amazing. The thing I order most often is the Cristoval's Special. They also offer take out margaritas! We have gotten take out from here three times and only once been disappointed in anything. The nachos supreme was soggy because they put the chips in with all the toppings. If they'd left them on the side for us to arrange at home, it would have been perfect. I highly recommend trying them out - they have online ordering as well as opening up their dining area for limited seating. read more

Awesome food. I never thought I would write a 5-star review for Mexican food in Stoughton, WI of all places, but here we are. La Cantina is amazing. I have eaten here at least 5-6 different times and have never had a bad meal. While I don't remember exactly what I've had the first couple of times, my go-to for the subsequent trips has been Cristoval's Special (a take on arroz con pollo, but chorizo gets added in). It is absolutely phenomenal. The chicken, cheese, rice, and chorizo are perfectly done and there is a nice spice to it. I really enjoy this place and definitely recommend it. Everyone that I take/order out with loves it as well. Just go/make a take out order. You won't regret it. read more

Me and my mom went there around 3pm. Obviously.. it wasn't busy because it was 3pm and who eats dinner at 3pm. Anyways.. my mom ordered a margarita. They were "weak" according to her. We had a waiter who seemed really rushed and impatient for their lack of guests there, and if it wasn't the waiter interrupting mid order then it was them being impatient and not even letting us finish before asking for the menus back. As our food came, the waiter said "I will be right back with your food." Well.. unless be right back means 15 minutes later.. he was definitely not back right away. Once the food came, my mom got no tortillas for her fajitas whatsoever. "I'm not chasing them around asking for what I already ordered." - my mom. Her fajitas were also super dry. SOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!!! Hands down the very best TRULY AUTHENTIC Mexican food I have had from a restaurant in many years. My family is Mexican and has set the bar VERY high for my taste buds. Order the fajitas OR the 4 pound taco (more like 5 pound). You will NOT be disappointed!! Wear some loose fitting pants because you are definitely going to need them. The portions are large. Our family brought my husband and I here and told us we would like it, but honestly I wasn't expecting much, having recently moved back to WI from San Diego, where we could get delicious Mexican food all the time. But indeed, we were impressed! Awesome service and fresh, tasty food. The prices are great, too. I appreciated how many vegetarian options there were, but of course there's a much wider variety for meat-eaters and pescatarians. I tried the veggie taco salad, which was easily the best I've ever had. In my experience, this place is way better than most Madison-area Mexican restaurants. We will definitely be back! read more

OUTSTANDING! By far, the best Mexican restaurant in the Madison and the best restaurant in Stoughton period. I had the Tolteca Molcajete - enough for two, but I refused to share. It was absolutely delicious. Even the rice and beans side dish was fantastic. They had a nice smoky flavor. My wife (a vegetarian) had two cheese enchiladas and said they were great. I also had a 32 ounce Negra Modelo - chilled to perfection. We can't wait to go back and work our way through the menu. read more

We ate there for the first time tonight and enjoyed a really good dinner with friends. The Lemon Limon Chicken Enchiladas were a table favorite but everything we ordered was delcious. I especially enjoyed the fresh and tasty guacamole salad which came with the pork chimichangas. The staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere pleasant. With a few apps and some sodas we spent about $15 each and there was a lot of food. We will definitely be back and are glad to see this addition to Stoughton restaurants. read more
