Curteous yet very warm and welcoming, with a cozy ambience decorated like the inside of a ship. One of the best restaurants in Venice by far. We enjoyed a lavish and elegant dinner at La Caravella restaurant on our final night in Venice. Four of us enjoyed the attentive service and courtyard atmosphere. The menu leans to the seafood heritage of Venice with elegant dishes high on flavor and presentation. As we often do, my wife and I shared several items from the limited menu beginning with a shrimp appetizer followed by a purple potato gnocchi and finishing with the sea bass. Food presentation was outstanding and as we were with friends that we happened to run in to (from Australia), our meal stretched for more than 3+ hours along with much wine from the ambitious list. Food was tasty and portions modest but plenty for us. If you are looking for something a bit above the norm, consider this restaurant. Although connected to a hotel (which I often avoid in favor of smaller more independent spots), I'll gladly make an exception for La Caravella. read more

Had an excellent experience at La Caravella! Everything was top class and couldn't have been happier with our pick of restaurant for dinner. Walking in, you can tell that this place is definitely upscale but rustic at the same time. All the seating is outdoors and you're located in between buildings in a kind of courtyard setting. The staff are all very professional and courteous as well and have an in depth knowledge of the menu. Starting off you get a complimentary basket of different types of fresh bread along with parmesan butter and also a tuna meatball. The bread was fresh, airy, and light and the meatball was full of flavor and the sauce complimented the tuna meatball very well. We then got our drinks which were ugo spritz. They were super light, refreshing and delicious. And then we received our main courses. I ordered their sea bass fillet and my girlfriend ordered their fresh egg pappardelle pasta with citrus flavored hare. The sea bass was delicious! Very light but packed with flavor and no fishy taste. The pasta was delicious too. There was delicate balance of savory and sweet. Wasn't too heavy but was enough to fill you up and overall a very refined dish. It was also my first time trying rabbit so I didn't know what to expect but this dish was definitely the best way to get started if you've never had rabbit before. We found this little cafe/restaurant/bar while we were strolling down a street near our hotel. We noticed a few small tables outside at about 12:30 pm on a Wednesday; but since they were all full we ventured inside the bar area. Here there was a small bar and about 5-6 additional small tables. We were told to seat ourselves. We said we just wanted a drink because we were waiting to check-in to our hotel; and we were promptly given drink menus. For a small establishment there was an extensive list of cocktails, wine, and beers. My husband ordered a beer and I wanted a traditional Italian drink. I saw that they had Aperol Spritzes on the menu; but what really caught my eye was the Caravella Aperol Spritz which was made with passion fruit. It was a few euros more, $12, but really worth it! So glad that this was my first drink in Italy....,cool, refreshing, and full of delicious flavor! (And colorful). The service was quick with several waiters/waitresses busily hustling around. There was also a constant stream of patrons coming in for a meal, or just drink like us. One of the little perks that we really enjoyed was a complimentary dish of assorted snacks that was delivered before we even got our drinks. (Potato chips, peanuts, and some type of yummy crackers or pita chips.). I read in previous reviews that La Caravella had earned a Michelin Star in 2018.....we will definitely have to be back to see if the food is as good as the drinks & service in the bar. read more

A small place with great service! We ended up at the Caravella by accident, not knowing where to go and just wanting to seat down and enjoy a glass of wine. Needless to say, the service was excellent, we had Prosecco and Chardonnay, both were delicious! I want to mention the waitress, she was very pleasant and knew exactly how to serve the wine. Btw, if you a tourist and are thinking that this place is overpriced, don't do it! Most of the reviews said pricey and small portions; however, I saw nothing small about these portions and the prices were well worth the quality. While not located by the water, the restaurant has a beautiful patio seating area. The service is excellent, attentive, and friendly. The risotto was so delicious and came with a foamy fish sauce which, when mixed with the risotto, made the entire dish! The cheese plate is also excellent and comes with honey topped with herbs, and a fresh tomato sauce. There are about 5 different types of cheeses and they all go well with a different combination of bread, honey, and jam. Highly recommend. Other highly recommend dishes: cheese board as an appetizer, risotto for primi, eggplant parmesan as the main (fair warning, there is no pasta, but it was nonetheless amazingly tasty!), souffle for dessert. read more

We were in Venice at the Louis Vuitton store when a local employee recommended this restaurant. We were kind of hesitant on going because I always prefer a restaurant with a view by the canals in Venice but decided to try it. Omg! Service beyond expectations! From the manager to the hostess to the waiter... wow! The food was amazing. Got the fish of the day and it was perfect. Ambiance and environment was very beautiful and somewhat formal. Decided to order the Tiramisu! No words can describe the taste. I'm not a huge tiramisu fan because I guess we are used to the ones made in america but wow. This place is one of the few places in Venice that is open late for dinner. We ended up having a long, action-packed day of sightseeing so we didn't have time to grab dinner until 9pm. In Rome this is not an issue, but in Venice many of the places close their kitchens at 9pm. This was a very nice restaurant, very large. My fiance ordered the duck, which was really good. I ordered a steak. The food was very tasty and well prepared, but it was not 5-star AMAZING, so I gave it 4 stars. The service was good, but we also were only 1 of 4 occupied tables total, so I can't speak to the service when this place is busy. read more

Great meal here in Venice. Great location for us as it was inside our hotel. While our hotel wasn't the fanciest hotel in the world, this restaurant is definitely a notch above the hotel. I enjoyed everything I had especially the spaghetti with the shrimp, and the filet with the truffle, but i didn't think the place lived up the price tag. We wanted to have a fantastic dinner to end our vacation and this place was located in our hotel. Apparently it was recognized by Michelin 2018 so we thought it would be good. We loved the decor, typical venice. We made reservations the night before and found the restaurant pretty full at 7pm. Mostly older crowd. The bar area was nice too. Drinks were not terribly overprived (prosecco 6-7 euros). Ambiance: Not really a family friendly place. But they treated our kids all nicely. Its well lit and would be a nice romantic venue. Tables are not as close as other restaurants. But overall, the restaurant is pretty small. Service: Fantastic from start to finish. The server introduced himself and said he had been working there for 29 years. The menu was explained thoroughly. Like most restaurants, food came out at a fairly slow pace. But we were in no rush. You also get a 10% discount by being a guest at the hotel. Food: We started off with the spider crab. They basically pick out the crab meat (kinda like from blue crab) and add a little mayo to it. I wished there was cracker or something to eat it with. Nice sweet flavor. We then opted for the raw bar sampler. This was very interesting and consisted of a red prawn and reg shrimp (both nice and sweet). The weirdest thing was the sea mantis. I was a tad scared to try, but it was surprisingly sweet too. The sea bass carpacio, red snapper, and john dory were just ok. Pretty clean flavor. We had the fish of the day (Orta) which was really really good. Delicate in flavor and cooked perfectly. We also tried the spider crab spaghetti which was fantastic. My favorite was the scallop au gratin. Scallop was cooked perfectly. We opted for the apple fritter and the black forrest dessert. My kids gulped both down in a hurry. Value: Not bad for a michelin recognized restaurant. Dishes were between 20-40 euros each. read more

This place was recommended to me by a retail worker nearby when I asked for a place that is not a tourist trap. Very good food and beautiful dining experience but on the more expensive side. The restaurant is in one a prime spot in Venice right near San Marco sq. and near all the high end shopping. The dining area is tucked into a pretty garden. Menu is predominantly seafood with a few other options as well for meat lovers and vegan. The waiter was very helpful in helping us choose a bottle or wine. We went with the Montepulciano called Testarossa. It was fantastic (I think €40 for the bottle?). My boyfriend and I shared the whole wheat tagliatelle pasta with duck ragu and ricotta which was delicious. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana and he ordered the catch of the day which was snapper. Additionally we shared the plate of cheeses and honey. (We we're starving lol). They have a wide selection on the dessert menu and everything looked really good. We had apricot cheesecake and Black Forest chocolate mousse. I recommend dining here if you enjoy seafood and don't mind splurging on a good quality meal! read more

What an incredible place!!!! My wife and I came here for our 45th anniversary, twice. The entire staff from the top down are incredible. They are knowledgeable and attentive. They all speak at least three languages. I wish our restaurants in Cali would take a lesson from these folks. The food is incredible!! Not the least expensive place to eat but it is one of the top five meals my wife and I have had in our lives. And we've had quite a few. When in Venice ya a must try. This place is fansaaayyy. First of all this place is a Michelin recommended restaurant. We didn't realize it was a suit up kind of restaurant and it was slightly embarrassing when we showed up haha, they were really polite about it and didn't reject us at the door. My man was told to take his cap off though. So yeh, they have a dress code. We were invited last minute by friends to join them for dinner and we showed up in rugged jeans and sneakers, while everyone else were in suits and dresses. Clearly we didn't get the memo. The ambiance was nice and it had a upscale essence to it, but I didn't think the food had much creativity or service was particularly outstanding. The price tag on this one is kind of heavy too. It was a piece of fried broccoli with green colored sauce (I think it was fish sauce) What we ordered: 1) Starters Sardines and scampi "in saor" Venetian style with onions raisins and pine nuts I thought this was pretty okay. The sardines were friend in some sort of crumbs, and the scampi were seasoned with some kind of secret sauce. 2) Mains: a) Fillets of sea bass with pine nuts, fried leeks and fresh basil (must try) Okay, I haven't had fish in a while so I was pretty stoked to try their sea bass. The portions were pretty generous. Again I don't know what secret sauce we on it, but it paired super well with the fried leeks. I think the fish was grilled, the skin was crispy. I really enjoyed this dish and thought it was worth the hefty price tag. b) "Bigoli" whole meal pasta with duck ragu It's like a fancy red sauce pasta dish, tasty but not mind blowing. Probably better off trying something else on the menu 3) Desserts Amaretto Souflé This one takes a while to prepare, but at least it was decent and it tasted pretty good. I'd personally give it a 3.5 stars, only because I thought they could have done better for an almost 5 star restaurant.
