The waiter was pretty entertaining, and the service was slow, but it didn't matter as we are on vacation. Shelly ordered the steak fajita while I had the Camarones al ajillo (garlic shrimp ) along with a Pacifico. Got in late on a Wednesday night and glad to find Mi Compadre a few blocks from us. Resembles most open air spots along the main drag. We were greeted by Victor who sat us with a nice couple. Perhaps we came on a bad evening. We stopped to have dinner but the owner refused us service. One in our group did ask to use the bathroom but was told there were no bathrooms. Happy hour is from 4 to 5, 2 x 1 Margaritas, hand made, no mix used, by Victor or his wife Marcila. No salt, just the most amazing nectar of the gods. Our dinner. In a few years we have tried most all of the items on the menu. We have yet to have something we have not enjoyed. La Casa has a new cook, Tony, he prepared Marcilas recipes to perfection. Mahi Al Pastor- Fresh grilled pineapple paired with fresh Mahi seasoned with pastor spices. Rice pilaf, tortillas, and salad with herbed vinaigrette. Shrimp Tacos - paper thin breading on large cleaned shrimp. Shredded cabbage, carrots, red sauce, fresh warmed grilled tortilla, and large shrimp. Shrimp Alhijo - Amazing. Garlic, spice, Alhijo sliced peppers, cleaned shrimp. Served with rice, salad, and grilled bread. Frozen Lime pie - cookie crust, frozen limey goodness, drizzle of chocolate. First night here was amazing, our return trip not so much We showed up ar happy hour , 2 for 1 margaritas , we ordered fish and chips and dessert. The owner was sitting with two women and I heard him say Happy hour was over but he would give them two more anyway. We ordered 3 rounds all between 4 and 5 which was the advertised time. When we got our check it was full price for all 3, when asked he said he didn't know what time it was, he then said we only ordered two during happy hour even though he didn't know what time it was supposedly. He then said that only cheap people like those two ladies come drink during happy hour and he times their orders, he insinuated we were cheap as well even though we spent a lot of money the night before and left a great tip. Not sure what happened from one night to the next but we will never return which sucks because we fell in love with the place read more

They make fantastic food! I absolutely love this place, the atmosphere, the owners and their cooking. Since discovering this place, we came here to eat at least once a day, our entire vacation. I am a vegetarian, and it's never easy to find a great selection of good vegetarian dishes while being in Mexico. The worst Mexican food I ever had. I went here with a friend for the excellent reviews and veggie options. The woman who was helping us over the phone was adorable! She was so nice and helpful. We order guacamole and vegetable fajitas with the intention to see how we feel and go from there. I am unsure how guac can taste so terribly - it's as if they poured an entire spoon of salt and garlic! My friend mentioned something and they changed it but to be honest, it was still terrible. Very garlicky (I can still feel the taste in my mouth). For the price of 8 dollars we ordered vegetable fajitas. The vegetables were so chopped up it was impossible to taste them. It only came with tortillas - yes, just tortillas and vegetables. I've lived in Mexico and California for many years and I've never had fajitas brought to me with nothing! They too were bland. No taste whatsoever. This is not to mention the bathroom wasn't working properly and that they ran out of soap... they had some in the back so I wasn't as worried for my safety but seriously?! Lastly, they only take cash (to avoid paying taxes, obviously). I had to take cash out and pay $2 just for that. If it was a taco stand that would be understood but come on... One more thing, the owner pissed my friend off because he told her she needs to stand her ground with me when ordering (I told her it's better not to include broccoli). Please stop. A lovely evening and wonderful experience dining at La Casa de Mi Compadre!! Looking for a restaurant a reasonable walk from our hotel (Villa del Palmar in PV) and liked the sound of the menu. We were invited in by Victor, the owner, and his welcoming personality. Little did we know what a delicious treat we were in for! Fantastic food, the best service and friendly conversation. Victor made spot-on recommendations for our meals, starting with drinks and fresh guacamole. The guacamole, by the way, was made by Victor's son and contains some extra complementary flavors such as garlic and cilantro. Yum! The absolute hit for our table were the bacon wrapped shrimp...WOW!!! Amazing flavor, large shrimp butterflied to include cheese, generously wrapped with bacon and perfectly cooked under a slightly sweet and savory sauce. Absolutely the best. The shrimp ajillo were a super close second with fragrant garlic and ajillo chili. The 3rd in our party ordered coconut shrimp and enjoyed them but found the coating a touch heavy. Presentation was beautiful and Victor's service was excellent. We learned his wife does much of the cooking and is assisted by their son. We also enjoyed a slice of her frozen lime pie for dessert! The restaurant is very comfortable and it is heartwarming to support this wonderful family as they share their food with patrons. As a first timers in PV, we just happened to come across this small, unpretentious bar/restaurant that was a real gem. Don´t expect more than a casual setting, great food, and entertainment and conversation with your host and owner, Victor, a truly large personality. As recommended on another review, I first tried the coconut shrimp and it was delicious and plentiful. My wife had the fish tacos, which I tried on a subsequent visit and found it to be unequaled. Went back again and was in the mood for a cheeseburger and was not disappointed. This was a world class burger, very good meat and a variety of toppings. Oh yes, the margaritas are hard to beat. Victor showed us some of what goes into the drink, showing great pride in his recipe. We couldn´t have been more pleased in finding this place away from the large resort atmosphere. We had a chance to check out La Casa de Mi Compadre, today. Actually, I've been waiting for this opportunity for over a year. (I was here last year, but they were closed... for some God awful reason; so this was my first shot.) I'm not the least disappointed. They lived up to everything I've read. If for no other reason, come here to sample the Margaritas. They are sublime! By far, the best I've ever had. Victor shared the recipe; but, insured me that sharing it wouldn't be a good idea, so, you'll have to ask him yourself. The food? Well, that's the extra 2 stars above. This place knows some serious recipes. The first we tried was the fried Calamari, with a side of some Greek form of tartar sauce. Sublime. However, it was the sautéed mushroom entrée that stole the show. One of the best appetizers I've had in my life. We finally ordered 3 of these plates of mushrooms. They were addictive! Finally, the shrimp dishes... Well, everything you've read above is absolutely true. We tried the straight shrimp recipe. We were offered the coconut shrimp and the "Mummy" shrimp - the shrimp with cheese stuffing and wrapped in bacon - but, that is going to have to wait for another day. Don't wait, RUN! If you've been to PV and haven't tried "La Casa de Mi Compadre," you haven't been to PV. I had a very bad experience here with the owner. I stopped in after walking by a few times. The place was empty and the owner and I talked. He mentioned that they just had an election and that the new president had no use for America. I commented that it seemed that the two new presidents were probably going to bang heads a bit. He then told me that he had no use for America. I said that our economies are linked and that we need each other. He said he had no interest in going to America and had no use for Americans! I instantly felt less safe and paid my bill and left. Many of the attitudes in Mexico have changed lately and I would highly recommend staying away from businesses that are not safe for American tourists. read more

In search of a margarita above the few disappointing ones I have had so far, I agree to try one and specify frozen with salt.
