Come with a sweet tooth, and leave with "diabeetuz".
If you are touring in San Telmo, and short on time, make a quick stop into this spot. Sure, there are Dulce de Leche shops a'plenty around BsAs, but I found this store had enough elbow room mid day on a holiday weekend (of Carnival, no less) between customers, staff, and merch. Plus, it was air conditioned, and a welcome break from the claustrophobic crowds around the flea markets outside.
This shop is a nice place to stop and sample the different flavors of South America's famous caramel spread, such as rum, honey, chocolate-mixed, and salted. (My fav was the rum... it was just so different!) Jars of different sizes are ideal for bringing back as gifts (just remember to check it into your luggage-- still counts as a liquid!). Additionally in the back right of the store, check out their selection of alfajores cookies. While they are not the Havanna brand, you can find a number of different brands made around Argentina, and sample a small set as affordable as 10 pesos. Makes a cheap souvenir that you can carry on the plane, too.
Just a tip, have a bottle of water handy. It all becomes too much after the 3rd sample. read more
