The place has everything you need for a relaxing retreat...and it's all clean/tidy. The couple work all day long to keep up the landscape + interior of this B&B. They also speak English well, so foreigners won't have a problem. Miguel was really helpful in providing tips on what to do in the area during our stay. Great location and phenomenal value compared to all the old people spots in the surrounding area.

Gayle and I returned to Fuente De almost 11 years after our last visit. During our May stay we…read moretook the nearby Teleferic up the mountain (in 4 minutes) and walked down to the Parador via a trail that took about 4 hours to complete. That included some winter-like weather on top, more ups than we expected, and light rain during most of the last half. About a third of the way down is the Hotel Áliva, of which Gayle and I stopped for coffee and a snack. Back in 2011, we decided not to take this trail as we arrived at Fuente De on a whim and weren't properly outfitted for a long hike. Coming back, we sort of expected a idyllic pastural walk, but that didn't quite turn out to be the case. Yet, we were happy we did it, really enjoyed the scenery, appreciated some map help by a French couple (who were really prepared), and felt really accomplished at the end. And we stayed 3 nights at the Parador de Fuente De. We drove in from Baiona (Atlantic Coast) on Day 1, took the Teleferic Hike on Day 2, and enjoyed a tour over mountain roads to the Cares Gorge on Day 3. And after that, we were off to San Sebastian. In between were a couple trips to Potes, an inspirational visit to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, and some local village and culinary exploration. The Parador? Marvelous! is huge mountain hotel, of which we had a really nice and comfortable room with a sitting room view (see picture). There are several spacious common areas, a inviting bar, and a nice restaurant. We weren't the only ones here, as the hotel seemed popular with the British motorcycle touring group. These folks were having a great time, and all we needed to do was hang out in the bar or linger in the breakfast room (which had a nice spread). The stunning outdoor and regional culture options here seemed endless and of we course just scratched the surface. I just hope we don't have to wait 11 years to come back again.

It is a historic building (a former Monastery) which is elegant, beautifully restored and modernized. It was our first night of the tour and it was an incredible introduction to Spain! The grounds were beautiful but then so was the surrounding area! We ate dinner at the hotel and the meal was wonderful. The only regret we had is that we arrived fairly late and had to leave early the next day to ride! If you do get the opportunity to stay here, take it! Just make sure you give yourself enough time to truly enjoy the experience!

Our big regret was not completing the 4+ hour hike down, but in fairness we hadn't packed enough water, snacks, and layers. If we ever come back, we'll stay at the Parador and this area a little more justice. It was now 3 PM and in Spain that means that it was Lunch time. We were now in Potes and one Tour book (Northern Spain Handbook by Footprint) recommended Casa Cayo. It was a fine choice. We were seated by the window and the views of the river and the nearby peaks were very pretty. The place very lively, cheerful, sunny, and a great place to hang out and soak up the local ambiance. We also had a great server who took very good care of us. We both enjoyed one of the local stews and shared over a bottle of nice wine. Flan and coffee (solo for me, con leche for Gayle) finished off a nice meal and a fun hiking portion of our day.

The home had a fully equipped kitchen which was convenient for traveling with kids. The living room and bedrooms have a spectacular view of the country and ocean. Also, the swimming pool was perfect for kids. The owner was very nice and provided good service to use the BBQ. We will definitely come back. Estábamos buscando buena casa rural a las afueras de Gijón y lo encontramos. La casa estaba muy limpia, moderna y nueva. La casa tiene una cocina totalmente equipada, que era conveniente para viajar con niños. La sala de estar y los dormitorios tienen una vista espectacular del país y el océano. We got a one bedroom suite with private balcony over looking the Sea of Cantabria with breakfast thrown in. And a delightful breakfast it was. This is a family run operation with the grandma renting rooms and the children running the restaurant and the grandkids....doing what grandkids do. Our stay was very pleasant, the hotel is in the middle of town and easy walking to the historic district and harbor. This was one of the high points of our trip. We would stay here again.

We felt as though we were visiting our favorite family member from the moment you arrive to the day you say your sad goodbye. The days at La Ermita de Deva always start off on the right note with a beautiful spread of her delicious breakfast. You will never leave hungry so long as Mara and her team are in the kitchen. A beautiful covered patio connected to the dining room is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine, beer or drink any time of the day. It goes without saying that there is a lot of love and effort put into running this little paradise. Quaint decorations surround you everywhere on the property, including your bed! Every room opens its windows to the breathtakingly beautiful views of green mountains and valley. If you listen closely, you will hear the sound of cowbells as the cows roam the lush green mountains in the distance. Our rooms were extremely clean and tidy. Our beds were covered with crisp white linens and the room smelled fresh every day. Should you grab a bottle of cold water from the fully stocked fridge, it will be replenished the next day. We have beautiful memories from staying here. That is why we chose to come back again in 2018. We plan to continue coming back so long as our lives permit us to do so!
