We ended up going with Ava and her boyfriend Yassine, lining up after dinner, around 10:30 on a Friday night. There was a small crowd waiting outside, and it took us about a half hour to get in. The place was fun and busy, and as charming as I remembered. We got seated in a loungey upstairs area and received excellent table service. There was free popcorn and even a complimentary round of welcome drinks, a strong mini cocktail of Gentian and peated whiskey. The menu had changed over completely since my first visit. The cocktail offerings were printed onto thick printed leaves arranged on metal branches, forming a cool little tree centerpiece that replaced a paper menu (there was also a more detailed menu available online). Several of the cocktails were labeled with raindrops, indicating they were available as mocktails--helpful for Yassine, who doesn't drink alcohol. Matt and I shared two rounds, sampling a good chunk of this new menu. Everything was delicious. The Carbone was a bright, interesting cocktail made with beetroot, black garlic, Origin smoked gin, and Dartigalongue Un-Oaked, served with a cube of frozen yogurt that melted lushly into the beet-red drink. The Serre Solaire was smooth and boozy, with black tea, green walnut and milk, Cointreau, and Rémy Martin cognac. The Résilience was a highbrow tropical cocktail, with sorghum, pineapple sage, Pasquet cognac, and Savanna rum. The Permaculture was creative and flavorful, with chestnut, butter, wakame umeshu, and Avallen Calvados. I also tried a sip of Ava's Aquaponie, a light, juicy vodka drink with basil, lemon and sweet clover, St. Germain, and Grey Goose. I love Little Red Door and I'm glad I got to visit a second time and share it with my husband. We do live kind of far away, but I hope a third visit is in the cards.

The cocktails are very fun, and they even have a few beers here if that's your thing. The servers speak fluent English, and it is popular with foreigners, but it's not a tourist trap by any means.

Okay, I would hardly call myself an expert on hipster bars, but this place certainly comes close to…read morethe title, at least in my opinion. Then again it is located in what appears to be Paris' hipster community, or at least the bohemian districts of the early 21st century. There probably isn't a huge about to say about this bar other than it is small, cosy, and has some pretty cool decorations on the wall. There wasn't a huge selection of beer on tap, but what they did have available was certainly satisfying. The bartender was also pretty cool. In a way it is one of those nice and quiet hole in the wall bars, hidden in the Parisian back streets, and is a nice place to simply spend some time, and it is pretty quiet as well (though that may have something to do with when I was there).

This is a serious beer bar and there a chalkboard that changes regularly featuring craft beer from around the world with the alcohol content and price per pint or demi listed alongside. I'm not a beer person per se, but the rose hibiscus blanche was fabulous. As was the dry sparkling white wine (served only by the bottle) that a very generous Jarvis Cocker (among the birthday attendees that night) was passing around :) Definitely a nice alternative to the loud, anonymous bars around Menilmontant that serve super mediocre beer and wine. The place is small, but it's festive, especially on a lovely night when the crowd spills out onto the sidewalk.

The wine is excellent and they have some great looking cocktails. This is the kind of place that I'd suggest to meet a friend visiting from the US who wanted to have a "real French" feeling while getting a drink. It feels like Toulouse-Lautrec could show up at some moment. But, then there was the food. Major point loss here. I get the sense that they were trying to go for a relaxed Brooklyn hipster bar menu. Their take on American bar food was a bit laughable, unfortunately. They actually serve hot dogs. Like, in a bun, on a plate, naked as the day. And, cottage cheese. A little pile of it, sitting ever so sadly on a plate next to real cheeses like cheddar and brie. Poor little cottage cheese. Oh, and then there was the "dips". Well, dip. One dip (crème fraiche with some chives). With a giant plate of sliced raw vegetables - carrots, cauliflower, sweet potato (yes, raw sweet potato...who eats that?), and some other undistinguishable vegetable. And did I mentioned they were sliced, not in dipping stick form? Fail. The onion rings were the closest we got to something potentially edible and American. I think the real issue is that they weren't sticking with their 1800s French theme. I suggest they stay on point. So, big picture here is to stay focused on the drinking. Don't get tempted to stay for more than two drinks and then think you might stay for dinner. Please don't embarrass yourself by eating a naked hot dog in a classy bar. Just drink your cocktail and good wine and head somewhere else for the rest of the evening (or go here after dinner).
