We found this place while scouting around for the famous churros place at San Gines. Its one of many restaurants with outdoors seating with folks drinking, smoking, and eating. After seeing their paella menu, we decided to stop by.
Food was pretty good - 3.5 stars but I'm adding a half star for good service and extra drinks on the house! We ordered the following:
Sangria for 2: A whole pitcher and we finished around 2/3 of it; surprising since the wife is not a big drinker. Fruity, refreshing - yet your face will turn red by the second or third glass!
Calamari: Its all rings and a bit on the oily side, but nice seasoned crispy outside and soft and tender inside.
Croquettes: Excellent dish! Like a fried mashed potato ball - incredibly crispy outside and nice creamy inside. Slightly cheesy and not buttery, so nice and light.
Seafood Paella: It did not have mussels or clams like the pictures but it had plenty of shrimp. The rice looked oily and watery, but it turned out to be very good - the rice was heavily flavored by the broth. We'll probably have some more paella by the end of our Spain trip.
Freebies: After we asked for the bill, the waitress offered us a cocktail on the house. She poured us each a healthy shot of Baileys and Limoncello, both on the rocks. We couldn't even finish the sangria! Both drinks we very good and did a nice job of totally cleaning the taste buds. We weren't super hammered, and managed to get a nice walk back to the hotel. read more
