Another ancient church from our River tour, Saint Martin's in Colmar, France. A service was in session as we came by, as it still serves a Catholic community, so we quietly crept around out of sight along the sides of the church, admiring the gothic architecture. Wikipedia dates the origin between 1235 and 1365, originally as the church of a long-gone college. Alas the church suffered losses during the French Revolution, so we can only imagine what used to be. For what's left remains impressive, at least in this visitor's eyes coming from historically-impoverished America. read more
