A favorite place to grab Mexican food in Mountain View! The various options are all consistently delicious, well-portioned, and affordable. Friendly service and many tables to sit at. It often gets SUPER crowded around noon (lines sometimes out the door). If you're here during lunch on weekdays, check out the chalkboard right outside the door for the special of the day (usually $4.99 for some sort of burrito with a canned soda). The pork falls apart like heaven in your mouth and is perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of savory. Definitely would recommend trying out the carnitas here! Intro: We went for take-out after seeing some articles about it (they had the World Record for largest burrito). No wait since we went in the middle of the afternoon. Food: I ordered the absolutely enormous super burrito to take home and split with the family. There are lots of meat options but I decided to stick with the al pastor. The meat was absolutely delicious. There was a bit too much rice proportion-wise for my liking but it was seasoned and flavored so it didn't feel like I was just eating plain rice all the time. The spicy salsa was a great addition - and it actually was quite spicy. Tl;dr: The Bay Area has lots of delicious burrito places and if you are looking to try some place new, this could be worth a shot. My personal rating: 7/10 read more

Not really sure how this place justifies "best in Mountain View" unless this is the only Mexican restaurant in Mountain View, which it is not. Truth be told, we moved from LA where you can get amaaaaazing tacos any night of the week off of a Dodge Ram pickup in a random parking lot so our bar is high -- but even with tempered expectations, this La Costeña was disappointing. We ordered a carne asada burrito and three tacos (al pastor, one of their many pollo varieties, and carne asada). They all were very runny (LOTS of liquid falling out as you pick them up) and lacked flavor entirely. Both of our stomachs felt a little uneasy after eating as well. I grew up eating this burrito at their old Mv location back when it was tucked in a small store and it hasn't changed a bit. The burrito tortilla is most noticeable here. Thin but doesn't fall apart or anything. Doesn't feel like enormous bites of just tortilla when you are biting into the ends. Service was extremely fast. Meat quality was great. This place is living proof that the restaurant/fast casual scene is completely out of wack in the Bay Area when it comes to price and quality. Here you can get hefty portions that taste excellent with really surprising quality. Oh well I tried this place more than four times now First I tried the super burrito with Carne Asada. It was decently good. I liked how the meat, bean and rice combination was solidly good. I didn't quite need extra guac or any other extras. The flvor was there. Then I tried carnitas.. it was good as well. Yer the best was Carne Asada. Glad they are open during Covid, and we are trying to support our local independent restaurants. We have ordered online and done pick up which is handy (actually have tried to call a couple times with no answer...). They have been wearing masks properly which is a huge plus. Food is good. Plus. I want to like this place as it is so conveniently located near where we live. I tried on a weekly basis to give them business during the COVID-19 times but I just don't feel welcome there at all. I've been going to La Costeña since the 1990s, and love the flavorful variety of fillings, wide ranging menu, and consistent friendly staff. Chile verde, chile colorado, and absolutely delicious chicken mole are my favorites. While you can't pick and choose like at the old location (I'd love to see that format return someday), the menu is extensive and if you want something in a burrito, they probably have it. My fantastic memories of the former La costena (Rengstorf) location should have remained in the back of mind. Those were better days of walking through the corner entry doors of a neighborhood market, walking to the back and finding a hidden gem filled with wonderful aromas. The former location somewhat looked like a make shift kitchen, complete with a rickety screen doo, but thats what gave it a warm, unpretencious, down home confort experience. I remember seeing the friendly, but tired worker bees waiting for your order, then steaming your tortilla (when ordering burritos), adding your meat(s), beans, and then sliding your tortilla down the line as you pointed to the item you wanted, rolls your burrito and Then the preparer pen marks your burrito bag w/ items in your burrito and lastly cashier rings you up. Done and off you go out to indulge and make your tummy happy, happy, happy !! Fast forward..... It's in another end/corner location of a strip mall on the corner of Whisman and Middlefield. But the day of seeing and pointing your chosen options are long gone. You basically stare at the menu board, walk up to cashier and say your order. Drinks are either in cooler or (3) horchatas in a dispenser. There is a cook behind cashier who is creating ones orders. You can't see your order being made, Once you place your order, you just wait for order to come out by watching for it at the register area. I don't recall a number to listen for or a PA system., Ok now the important part.....was it as I remembered fom the yester years? Well I judged it on two types of items: street tacos and a Chico burrito. Unamisouly, all judges at booth said both items needed just a wee bit more seasoning, burrito was rolled nicely, but seemed smaller than I recalled. But oh well, I proceeded to eat the carne asada Chico burrito. Personally I felt it was rather dry, carne asada was minimal, over cooked and I could not find the sour cream I ordered. My dining partners concured, but added it needed a pinch of seasoning. The street tacos were very moist and looked nicely piled on top of 2 corn tortillas. However I felt the tortillas were a bit hard and dry. It didn't have the bend like when one dips in a bit of oil to create pliability. Also no complimentsry chips, salsa or even a help yourself corn tortilla chip and salsa bar, as many similar business offer. Customer service was not memorable. I mean nothing notable stands out. I do understand it can be monotonous being told what customers want, but a smile and friendly greeting goes a long way, most especially in the restaurant business, and even more because this is a neighborhood business and every customer counts. I had heard about this place so much from my neighbor and later read about this online when searching for best burrito in South Bay Area, so decided to give it a try. They offer choice of so many different kinds of meats. Tried one of their grilled chicken burrito and tacos with carne, al pastor and some other kind of chicken. Their spicy salsa is actually spicy, and not just in a hot way. I asked for my burrito grilled, but I was told they don't do it, but it was still a good burrito. But not the best burrito. The custom chico, regular and super burrito are based on size, not type of fillings. They start with spanish rice, beans and salsa. From there, you can opt for add-ons such as meat, cheese, sour cream, guacamole that will increase the overall price. I think this is fantastic because you can get a chico burrito w/o meat or other add-ons for less than $5 without having to resort to fast or junk food. Yesterday evening, we visited this establishment for the first time. The chips were cold and appeared stale. The food was OK but the margaritas were $12+ dollars for a cup size (small) spirit. Everyone told me to try this place. I ordered two tacos with chicken add cheese, no cilantro. No cilantro. I order a side of rice. The guy who took my order should word things differently. The dummy that made the tacos put most of the stuff on one tortilla and hardly anything on the other. The cheese was melted so I could not have cheese on both ‍ what a dummy. They were kinda glued together with cheese like flat tostada's. I was flaming pissed they hardly had anything decent on them. The chunks of chicken were dried out chicken with zero flavor. These folks will never see me again. Never. I threw the nasty a§§ tacos out. Paid and won't eat them.. The rice was dry as a desert and it had zero flavor. Never ever will I go there again. They had a chunk of chicken tendon on my face, could have broken a tooth ... Gross. They had chicken so hard I had to pull it out of my mouth and toss it out the window. Boooo booooo to this place.
