Super quiet, super clean, and super organized. Unlike all of the other surrounding LA libraries, this one has comfy big chairs, many seated desks with outlets, and a long lounge sofa corner. There are computers you can use too, and the restroom is locked, so you have to ask one of the staff to unlock it for you. Parking is 2 hours all around, and they have a security guard out front. This is absolutely my favorite library. It's so clean and quiet. There's no parking lot, but there is plenty of street parking. Some are limited by two hours but if you keep driving you'll find spots you can park at all day. Note: there is no water fountain to refill your water bottle, so be prepared for that. I believe you can bring in a drink just based on what I've seen, so I always bring an energy drink with me. Just be mindful and clean up after yourself. I would definitely recommend this library! just make sure to check their hours since they vary read more

A small-ish building tucked away on Burin Ave, Lawndale Library is a great place to get some studying done. Modern interior, ample seating, lots of plugs, great air conditioning for a hot summer day, and I love the solo study desks with dividers. I believe there are a couple study rooms, but they seem to be meant for groups - no solo focus rooms like Hawthorne Library. But at least the seating situation makes up for it. However, I also haven't seen a water bottle refill station here... 5 stars anyways! read more

Highly disappointed in the "so called" manager, Michelle, that decided to kick two other ladies and myself out of the Only study room available, due to the library's website not allowing access, to reserve the room as she requested of me, even after I attempted to explain the situation to her more than once. No One was in need of the study room besides us, but she preferred to interrupt our meeting, kick us out, and leave the Only vacant study room unoccupied, versus allowing us to finish up our meeting, less than an hour before they closed! Absolutely Unnecessary and Unkind of "management." Leaving me with zero desire to ever return to my local library! read more

I don't know why the negative reviews exist here, as I find this library very effective. This is my local library and haven't seen any disturbances or problems with the homeless whatsoever. If you want a boogie library please go somewhere else as this is a small library for their own residents in the community. I've always found the staff knowledgeable and helpful and never rude. Convenient location, full service library including a nifty online reservation system that allows you to reserve so your books are available when you arrive. A service available on the county library system so if a title isn't available at your local library you can usually find it at another location or you can request it. Another reviewer mentioned the homeless population, it's true there's a few around but I've never been bothered. The abundance is disappointing but that's a topic for a different forum. Ample parking in the surrounding area or small lot. There is an after hours drop box. Pleasant inside, nice that the children's section is separated from the main library. Always see activities going on there so it's obviously popular with parents. Noticed the shelves are filling with books - I remember when it first opened and they were less than full as the inventory wasn't close to what it us today. I work from home so sometimes I like to pack up and work from the library for a change of scenery...I can be exponentially more productive here than at the local coffee joint; the crowds there are too chaotic for me. And in the heat of summer, it's nice to work here in the cool a/c. read more

This place is my new favorite library! It has AC, the building is modern AND clean, and it is naturally well lit inside. I was very productive here. I didn't check out any books, but I'm glad I have the option to as there seems to be a wide selection when I was roaming around the library during my study break. They also have some resources here, like free printing (up to 10 pages a day). read more

Very poor library. There's a lot of homeless people hanging out in the library every single day and some of the librarians are very rude and inconsiderate here. There's high school teens hanging out, drinking alcohol in the back corner and leaving their trash everywhere, and making loud noises so it's very hard to concentrate here. Would not come back at all. read more

This review is for their pick up process during COVID 19. It's fast and easy. I called to let them know I would be arriving soon for picking up my items. When I arrived, a staff member asked for my name and handed my items. There's clear signage outside with instructions and signage on the floor to help those in line to maintain 6ft distance. I look forward to visiting the inside of the library once it's open. Plenty of street parking. read more

Staff was very polite. I was able to get me a library card after many years of not having one. They had several computers and common areas closed down to help the spread of covid. Also there is alot of grass area outside for a kid to enjoy. Very nice community based library. read more

Cute library. It looks to be on the newer side. The coolest thing is the self checkout podium. Yes! You can actually check your books out yourself with your library card. And if you get a little flustered, there's an attendant nearby to show you how to do it properly. Library is between small and medium in size. The children's section is pretty cool and organized. Very nice library. And it is clean, many tables, children's side separate​ from the​ ​adult side, computers available and​ self-checkout​! There are books available for sale by the entrance, these are donated books and the library sells them back for a small price starting from $0.25 for paperbacks and $1.00 for hardcovers. Although the selections may be​ limited, it is always cool to check out and I like to buy books from here because it is cheaper than any other place. Great selection of books, a ​great place to study, park the bike outside it is safe or drive your car. Great place for kids, they have private rooms where they do fun events with children. I also liked the old Lawndale Library before they build this new one. The old ones​ bring​ back a lot of memories. Its doors are closed now and it stands right behind the new ones. I am glad they haven't torn it down, sometimes I just like to stand outside the doors and just stare at it. It is calming. If you have been a resident of Lawndale for a while and know the feeling and know what was here before they build the ​new library, you would understand. They have books drop off that are designed as drive-thru​ so you don't have to park your car in order to return a book. The issues that I have is that this library is located right next to the ​city hall, and sometimes I cannot find parking in the lot. I have to find parking on the street which is the only unattractive part. Overall, I highly recommend this library. I love my local library. The staff here are all friendly, the spaces usually clean and never too crowded, easy self check out system, and this location has all the basic services I need (reliable wifi, printing and photocopying). The book, dvd and cd options here are somewhat limited, but LA Public Library System has a robust catalog and you can request material be sent to this location, so this isnt much of an issue. The only drawbacks, minor ones at that, include a bathroon access system requiring librarians to buzz open doors, patrons talking loudly and staff not asking them to maintain a quiet space for all. Definitely ranks much higher than the awful Torrance Central Library, where the reference desk help are unfriendly and make it seem like you're burdening them (one chastised me for accidently logging off the wrong way on the library computer) and they charge you for anything you print. read more

Started coming here about a month ago or so, gotta say it's a decent place compared to other libraries around. It has two sections, one for children and the other for adults, which is great. It's a great place to bring your kids to do homework, check out a book, enjoy some quiet time, study. It's a beautiful facility. Staff is friendly and it's very organized and clean. Moreover, I've studied their numerous times. I'm taking the LSAT in December and was excited to hear there was a local library now. Unfortunately, it gets incredible loud in there. People are so rude. They talk on their phones, have full blown conversations, and let their children run around like it's an outdoor playground. It's really frustrating that the staff doesn't tell them to stop either. There is a guy that goes their everyday and sleeps and snore extremely loud. Again, no one says anything. And on top of that, he takes off his shoes and he's feet look like they have some type of bacterial infection (very unhygienic). I've been to many libraries and this is the loudest and the hardest to study in. I really don't know if I can go back.. read more

The new and improved Lawndale Library is only a little over a year old. This place still smells new and is state of the art. It's not the largest library but it serves the small community of Lawndale well. I like to come here because of the effortless self check-outs and laptop docks. The collection consists of approximately 80,000 items, including books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines. Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese materials are readily available. The International Children's Collection consists of hundreds of picture books and chapter books in dozens of languages donated by countries around the world. The Library offers EXCELLENT reference assistance, electronic databases and other online information, public access Internet computers, WiFi, a Career Center, Technology Lab, and library programs for all ages. The Friends of the Lawndale Library sponsor a DVD Rental Collection featuring new releases and an ongoing used book sale that I utilize weekly. read more

OK, now THIS is a library - yeah ! Great facility (with a little lawn area outside, even), great staff, speedy self check-out, extensive DVD selection, lots of tables. I even picked up a free (Michael Connoly) book from the 'free' trolley. Easy parking on Grevillea. This streets in this area are currently (Jan '12) being worked on, but it's well worth it, even if you have to 'nagivate around' a little. read more

This is a GREAT library, I bring my kids here to change up our homeschooling environment several times a month. Usually, there are virtually no disturbances and the staff there is always very helpful. I love how the library is so clean, organized and well kept. Today, however, we witnessed something quite disturbing. Some people find the library to be some kind of a sanctuary and there was an elderly gentleman who seemed to be just checking things out, had some books in this hand and looked like he was about to leave. Well, he must've been confused and tried to leave through the emergency door. Of course, there's alarms and bells going off, and he's just as confused as anyone else. A lady, who was obviously staff, walked over to the door, clearly annoyed that he set the alarm off. He was apologizing profusely but she was very rude and kept waving him off and telling him "you have to go around!"...I understand it's gotta be frustrating when something like that happens, but man, she could've exercised a little humility and just graciously accepted his apology and carried on. But no, she kept being really rude, and just waving him off. It was really disheartening to see such disrespect to an elder, who was apologizing PROFUSELY. read more

This library is great for toddlers. My 4-year old loves it here. They have books, toys, kid's desktops, storytime and lots of activities. We usually go after lunch and spend about an hour or 2. My daughter never gets tired to go and always wants to go almost every weekend now. read more

One of the best neighborhood COLAPUBLIB libraries. The DVD section is huge, and I like how the kids' section is in a different wing. The "adult" side of the library is pretty quiet, which is rare nowadays. Great selection of books, and they have self check out as well. read more

I love this library. It's fairly new in the area and has a modern feel to it. There are many areas for people to study and has a friendly staff. My favorite part of the library is the little area in the front where they sell used books that are dirt cheap. I go in once in a while to check it out. Totally worth coming! read more

It's pretty small, but it's in a cute little area that seemed to have a good amount of people coming in and out which makes it feel a bit more comfortable to be there! I bring my kids to the Children's book department often. It is so clean and organized. One morning I even saw a man taking all of the toys and cleaning them, one by one. I was impressed with that. I've grew up visiting that Lawndale library since I was a child, I loved going there for the movies lol and of course some of the books. But now that it had been renovated, it's a very good improvement! Staff there are friendly and helpful with certain things, like what particular books to look for. The place is well cool and peaceful to relax and enjoy reading, studying or do homework, etc. The location is convenient and self service to check out the books is pretty cool, you don't have to wait in line for the front desk to do the checking out for you! Oh, and there's free Wi-Fi, and plug adapters to plug in ur own laptops. Check the library out if u got nothing better to do. read more

I come here because it's 5 minutes from home. That's walking distance. But my god this place is loud. If you want to experience the decor of what a library should be, come in the first hour. Otherwise, this library is LOUD. The patrons have an attitude with the staff every chance they get. It's appalling. This is more of a kids library hands down. read more
