This is a quaint little place in the quiet section of montclair. Small restaurant with a nice ambiance. The food is excellent as well as the service. The shrimp scampi appetizer is really good, the sauce they put on it is great for bread dipping! Definitely worth coming here for dinner. It's always great when it's a byob as well. Went on a Tuesday night and no reservation needed. Not sure why there are some bad reviews here. read more

Very charming place, the food is very good and it is BYOB. The service is extremely friendly and attentive. One of the starters was a special tomato salad which was made with the most flavorful and firm tomatoes and in the middle of winter. Such a treat! The standard Italian dishes were all delicious and some of the desserts are made on premises. The dining room decor could use a little modernization. But a very comfortable and reliably good restaurant. read more

First time there this weekend to celebrate a birthday, and a great experience. The staff was friendly, and the menu is really vast, a little bit of something for everyone. I recommend the Hot Antipasto appetizer which gives a really big sampling of a few specialties on the appetizer menu. It was more than enough for two people to share, and so tasty. La Couronne, my wife and I are in love with your fine dining restaurant. Most recently, my wife and I both had grilled fish which was cooked to perfection with nice grill marks. The appetizers and sides were equally exquisite. I could go on and on about the food. The interior is beautiful. While there is no alcohol served, we brought a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed. The service is on point and very attentive. And the prices, very reasonable for all that it offers and the feeling you get dining here. My favorite restaurant in town. I'm just a kid and I love their penne vodka dish. The pizza is also delicious.

We go here often. The food never disappoints, the prices reasonable, and once you are here 3-4 times, you are recognized and considered family. And are there any other Italian restaurants around festooned with Norman Rockwell prints. Ask about the chicken Milanese and the off-menu Haddock Fra Diablo over spinach. read more

Four of us ate here tonight and had a great time. Lisa, the hostess, was very nice and friendly and checked on us a couple times to make sure things were good. The servers and other staff were attentive, keeping wine, water and beer flowing and moving us through our enjoyable meal. The food was very good. We will definitely return. read more

I like Joe and I like his restaurant. I have only been there one time myself and it is, like other reviews state, more popular with the older crowd. There is a lot to like though. Yogi Beara eats there regularly and Joe treats all the regulars like my father very well. When I met him he was outstanding! I had dinner at this restaurant last weekend and loved it. The dining environment is fantastic: gentle music, soft lighting, pleasant waiters and comfortable temperature. Tables were not too close/too far from each other and there was a nice crowd. I ordered shrimp and white bean salad for appetizer and grilled sea bass for entree. They were all very delicious. Went last night, party of 4 with reservation. Seated immediately. Food was good, BUT - entrees did not come out at the same time. I'm not talking about the server having to make a second trip to get the rest, I'm talking enough time that the 3 dinners that came out were at best luke-warm by the time the 4th dinner arrived. Complaint to hostess was responded with 'our food is made fresh', and I'm fairly sure it is, but that doesn't excuse a 6 or 7 minute wait for the last entree to arrive. These were all items that were presented on the menu, so the kitchen staff should be well aware of how to time the various dishes. The waiter totally disappeared after we complained about the last dinner not arriving, never saw him again for the rest of the evening (we saw him, he just never came back to our table). The hostess graciously offered to buy us dessert, we accepted, desserts were delivered with a 'your coffee will be here in a minute'. Twenty or so minutes later, she came back to see that everything was ok and to drop the check, and we pointed out that the coffee never arrived, kind of hammering home that there's a problem with waitstaff. Further to this problem, we had to ask multiple times for waters to be refilled, multiple requests for a soda, the busboy asked that one diner pass his empty plate to him so he didn't have to walk around the table to reach it, server reaching across one diner to reach another (there was clearance on 3 sides of the table for someone to walk around so there was no physical reason preventing them from doing so, they just didn't), and worst of all, having no clue who ordered what and dealt with that by asking "who got the veal" kind of diner-style. "Alice", "Mel" or "Flo" would not have been out of place in this scene. Not at all the service one would expect from a place charging $28 for a plate of linguine. Back to the food - it was good and well-prepared, well seasoned, except that there was no uniformity. Three of us got caesar salads and every plate appeared to have a different quantity of salad kind of 'tossed' onto the plate. I don't expect it to be arranged leaf by leaf, but there should still be some neatness to the presentation and each plate should look the same. That's minor, although this wasn't a side salad included in the meal but rather something we were paying for so there's still an expectation of decent presentation. All in all, not a terrible evening, but not what was expected in the way of service, given the type of place they are. read more

Last night was my first time back at La Couronne in about a year. I was extremely disappointed in both the food and the service. Perhaps the kitchen didn't try too hard because I arrived around 5:30PM, but the stuffed mushrooms were under cooked. The sauce on the mushrooms was heavy, and tasted like flour. Once my main course arrived, I was disappointed how the sauce tasted like canned tomatoes. I will not be returning. read more

The food is amazing..!!! My favorite dishes are their pastas starting from Penne Vodka and ending with a (heavy) but delicious Carbonara Pasta... Everything tastes so good that you can tell that is homemade.. Their waiter Ishmael is very pleasant and cares for his customers just like the other servers. I really love this place, their food, their environment.... basically I love every time I dine at La Couronne Restaurant... Btw don't forget to try their thin crust pizzas they are delicious..!!!! read more

we are a party of 6 that dine together weekly and have stong opinions about the food we eat and while I can agree with the food being well prepared the portions do not align with the prices. there were about a dozen pieces of calamari for $15.00 the ceasar salad dressing was good but again on the small side we also ordered a pizza to share as an app and I am sure the crust was pre made and frozen since it had a saltine like quality and taste to it. two fish entrees two pasta one veal and one chicken the sole was ok the other fish not memorable the veal was butter soft but not an eye opener two of the same pasta dishes had 6 small mussels 3 scallops and several rock shrimp over about 1/4 lb of pasta for $24 or $48 for a half pound of pasta and a handfull of seafood it's been a while since I left an Italain restaurant hungry there are many other better choices in the area that serve more flavorful food for less $$ and we will be heading to one of them next week. it's one and done for the 6 of us fool me once....... read more
