I felt like an Austrian princess the entire time, with staff on hand to catch a napkin before it fell to the floor and live piano music for the duration of our meal. Our meal started with a selection of freshly baked bread, two types of butter, and amuse bouche. Appetizers were steamed broccoli with bulgar/ smoked eel greaves/ etc and the lobster with pickled veal tongue in a lobster bisque and crispy rice with marinated palm hearts. Both were exquisite, especially the lobster. I savored every bite, especially knowing that it would be a rare find back in my new home of Berlin. For our main courses, I had the Pike Perch with asparagus/ citrus lemon/ saffron and my husband had the Arctic Char. For dessert, we opted for both the Milk and Honey. Milk was burnt milk ice cream with cardamom, dried barberry, Beetroot granule, peanut cream, roasted milk, Amaranth cress and crispy oat. Honey was cookies with Mara de Bois strawberries, dehydrated chocolate mousse, rose jelly, honey cream, and fried batter pearls. Both were, for lack of a better word, also exquisite. On top of all this food, the chef also sent out a couple of additional dessert bites, which went great with our decaf coffee. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, or if you just want to "treat yo self," Le Ciel is a great place for it. To date, this was one of the best birthday dinners I've had.

The service was impeccable and the meal started on a highlight. The aperitif was delicious and for my starter I had the onion soup which was the best onion soup I've ever had! The bread and butter they provide was ordinary. For my main dish I ordered the pasta with cabbage. The description of this dish sounded plain but I was looking forward to how they would execute it. Eh....pasta was el dente but the pasta tasted sweet, like a desert. Not my thing. We ended with a dessert, which was an orange creme brûlée. Good but nothing exceptional. The wine they gave you was ordinary, no wonder bottomless. I was disappointed, expected much more in terms of flavor.

For some reason I cannot see the 6 previous reviews to this location on yelp, as I wanted to…read moreunderstand how on Earth other people gave it so many stars (perhaps some lower star ratings balanced with high star ratings)? This is one of the worst places I have ate at. But let's start with the good: 1. Clean tables, floors and fair bathroom Now the bad 1. The mussels in the lunch menu were unsafe to eat. The shells did not open. That is number one sign of unsafe old mussels. We told the kitchen, they made some new, that were... you guessed it, also unopened after cooking. Its a completely careless and unsafe kitchen. And when we pointed this out to them, the cook seemed not to care, and kept serving it as the lunch special (there were two options). REALLY? So after that, I really don't have to go into how uninspired the dish was before we noticed all the closed shells. I mean, its very hard to mess up mussels in my opinion; simplest thing to cook and have lots of taste. Completely tasteless. And I don't have to express my utter dismay that our glass of wine turned out to be 5.80 Euros each. I understand that when the lady asked us if we wanted wine (no menu of wines was offered), we said yes, something white to go with the dish, but to start us with such a price of wine without any indication to me is bad business (you can have a wine in Vienna for 3.80 or so). Plus, I could have left the wine behind, was not great at all, did not match the entrance soup, and the only reason i drank it finished was because I was scared I just poisoned myself with the mussels so was hoping the wine would help. Now I would say the lady removed the cost of one of our plates. Honestly, should have been both. We still ended up walking out with a just under 20 Euro bill for lunch special (around 9 Euros), one plate removed, and one glass of wine each for two people. Obscene. But worse is that they knew there was an issue with the mussels, and arrogantly continued to serve them. Conclusion: Looks nice, but uninspired = NON!

The restuarant is very close to the city center so I expect to pay a little more. I would have giving Cote Sud 5 stars, but the Cornish hen took about 20 minutes to prepare. If I knew this ahead of time, I would not have ordered it. In addition, they do not accept credit cards. I was fortunate that I had enough euros to cover the bill. I did not see this policy clearing noted anywhere. If I knew this ahead of time, I would not have stop in.

Named for its Chef whose Cuisine leans French by way of Vienna, all prepared properly and presented professionally, it is atop white linen that Bread is served almost immediately while Wine proves nearly essential thanks to frequent reminders by waiters. Eventually opting for Sparkling Chardonnay out of Niederösterreich, its bright Citrus not ideal for an amuse of Austrian Bologna but well-suited to Foie Gras and Oranges, course two consisted of Pumpkin Risotto decorated in Green Beans with dollops of Curd Cheese. Receiving Olive Oil with no explanation alongside the Rice, plus a pile of magazines to pass the time with no Wi-Fi, it was under vaulted ceilings surrounded by pink walls that beautifully-cooked Lamb arrived next with Polenta, Artichokes and a single curl of Bell Pepper. €69 for 3-courses, plus €4 for Bread and €16 for "Schmarrn," Dessert riffs on Viennese shredded Pancakes but misses the mark in portion-size and structure with the lone saving grace some poached Pears and velvety Chocolate Ice Cream.

And the dessert, an apple/bread casserole was extremely good. I did feel a bit sorry for the servers, carrying a stack of four wine lists to the table - each one seemed to weigh about 4kg. But I still prefer the wine list as a book, instead of the iPad wine lists that are becoming ubiquitous. Hopefully, after Covid, we'll return back... but I doubt it. I'll return soon. 2021 09 22.
