Hidden in a trendy underground area with steps leading down to the restaurant, this felt like going to a speakeasy. Nice romantic atmosphere, and service could not have been better. Spoiler alert: everything was phenomenal, and this restaurant is the one I think about when I do other reviews. It truly made an impact, and set the bar for me. We ordered escargot as an appetizer, along with their soup du jour, which happened to be my favorite: cream-of-crab soup. The escargot had a delicious herb and butter sauce surrounding it, of which the server suggested we dip our bread, and that was a great choice! I have lived near the Chesapeake Bay my entire life, and tried countless iterations of cream-of-crab soup. This was THE BEST. Superb creaminess and it was not too thick--it was just as it should be. The entree I ordered was offered as a special, and it was excellent. The flavors were delicious and hearty, and the portion-size was great. Make sure you save room for dessert! We came here for a quiet dinner while relaxing at the beach. Loved the entire experience. We sat inside since it is still a bit chilly in May in the evenings. We ordered two cocktails to start and my wife's called zelda's was very good. I got a basic Gin and Tonic, which was okay (not sure what tonic water they used). We discussed my gluten intolerance with the waitress and she brought bread for my wife and radishes for me - this was very interesting, as it seems that it is common in France to have sliced radishes with salt and butter. That was very nice and unexpected. My wife then ordered the escargot and I ordered the cesar salad (the waitress told me she would have it made without the croutons). For the main course, my wife got the scallops and crisp cauliflower and based on the recommendation from the waitress, I got the salmon with crispy skin over a bed of risotto. Again everything was relishes. We also ordered an amazing Burgundy wine. To finish off we got a chocolate moose that was amazing. The place feels French. The hostess spoke French. She was so nice and welcoming and was so helpful helping my wife order. We both had the escargot for starters and it was amazing. The buttery garlic broth underneath was amazing and to dip it in the fresh baguette bread was awesome. For our entrees she had the stuffed cordon bleu, i had the steak frittes and the french fries were amazing, best i have ever had. Steak was good but the sauce ontop made it better. This little French restaurant is a MUST if you're in Rehoboth!! It is perfect for a date night/romantic dinner. Their pink sign is eye catching and will draw you in. Try to make a reservation because the place does get packed! As soon as we walked down the steps to enter the restaurant we were greeted by warm smiles and seated very quickly. We had crab soup that was divine, Cesar salad prepared just right with a lovely holiday cocktail made with orange vodka, splash of cranberry juice, champagne and a sprig of rosemary. Their bread is yummy. The beef bourguignon had a deep rich flavor on a bit of delicious purée, with button mushrooms, carrots and pearl onion. The chicken cordon bleu is a must try. For dessert we had the Yule Log....heavenly end to a fabulous dinner. The coffee is French press...don't miss it. Our server Jodi was so kind and spot on with her recommendations. The steak tartare was chopped rather grinded. It's my opinion that's the correct approach. The trout amandine was crispy skin with a sauce I literally dipped the bread into the sauce. The escargot was super flavorful as we the Caesar salad. I have never had trout prepared and tasting this way. Unbelievable! The steak frites was also very, very good. Can't beat the hand cut fries either. All that topped off with an amazing bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape...mmm. It is a very small dining space and there isn't much to absorb sound. Five friends and I dined at La Fable Thursday, September 19, to celebrate my retirement. I had eaten there before, and the prospect pleased me. The service was wonderful, and I would particularly like to thank Tonia and her fellow servers for their attentiveness and knowledge. My partner had the duck, It was superb-tender and cooked to perfection with a lovely sauce. Two of my companions started with the special seafood soup, which was a remarkable, creamy bisque with large pieces of seafood, Splendid! Two had the chicken entree which they qualified with "very good" I did not try it so I'll say no further. One had the boeuf bourguignon, which I did try. It was, disappointingly . unremarkable. Tender, but not special. My own entree was the trout. I like trout. This was the largest portion of trout I had ever had but rather fishy, and so strangely large, unlike any trout I had ever had, Was it trout? I don't know. The crusting was delicious, the almonds crunchy. One criticism I will level is that after asking for additional bread, we found a bread charge. I found the charge, nestled quietly in our $409 bill gauche and off-putting. Will we come back next year? Maybe, probably, but with less anticipation. read more

So, I finally made it to this lauded place. We went on a snowy night and perhaps that was part of why there was only one other couple in the dining room! I started with the beautiful and tasty Pomegranate French 75 and my partner, the Manhattan. Some elegant places serve lovely diminutive aperitifs. Nope, this is a real drink! I chose the Caesar salad, also a very generous mound of fresh and tasty romaine that was elegantly sized in a manner which would meet my mother's approval. The partner had the seafood chowder, glorious and truly could have been dinner. My nostalgia won out and I had the Coquilles St. Jacques, just a rich perfection on a snowy evening. And the paired glass of white suggested matched perfectly. Well, despite our fill, when I saw Crème brûlée, I had to have it. The crust was rich and magnificent. We had a really lovely dinner at La Fable last night. The restaurant itself is a cute, intimate space. It's a lot dressier than most beach restaurants but it still has a laid back vibe. We ordered the onion soup and Cesar salad to start. Both we really good! We need to talk about their French bread for a second - the waiter brings out a warm super crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside piece of bread with a salted pat of butter. I could just eat that all night! I think you can really tell the quality of a restaurant with two criteria - how good is their bread and do they have a small menu? La Fable - amazing bread - CHECK! Small menu - CHECK! They only have 7 entrees which tells you how much time the chef took perfecting each of them. My husband ordered the Airline Chicken and I got the Colorado Rack of Lamb. The chicken was cooked perfect complete with deliciously salty crispy skin. My rack of lamb was also cooked well - but half of it was fat... hence the 4 star. We have been to this restaurant a fair bit and really do enjoy it. My husband is French and to get traditional French food in this area is a lovely treat for him. While we do find the food delicious, there always (seriously *every* visit) seems to be something wrong with our meal. For example, last visit the chicken breast was wayyy dry and the visit prior my steak came out insanely rare when I ordered medium. The food is sooo good we will continue to return but it's just a shame it's not more consistent because we've had both previous mentioned dishes and they were off the charts amazing. We never send the food back because we really hate to waste unless it's necessary, yet when you're dropping $150 - $200 + 20% tip (not including cocktails but we do like our food) on a extravagant meal you want things right. Cocktails can be a hit or a miss too which is also a bummer. Our only other grievance is often the waitstaff can be quite cold/strange. When the food is great we love to send our compliments to the chef. We've both worked in restaurants and know praise is always welcome and appreciated. In the same vein, when there is a glaring issue - ie: a bloody steak - we most respectfully just give a heads up that the dish is off. We're not pining for a free dish, discount, or anything of the sort and we're always surprised by the waitstaffs borderline rude reaction despite us handling the concern kindly. I would recommend this cozy little spot because it is oh-so-perfect for a date night. We will for sure be back despite the many hiccups. There are not many options of this caliber in Rehoboth so we'll continue to suck up the few negatives about this place. read more

This four stars is graded on a favorable curve, given it's location and lack of similar competition. The tartare, foie gras, and escargot were all delicious. The entrees range from what you expect and enjoyable (chicken cordon bleu), to just fine (duck), to disappointing (bouillabaisse was under-salted and the fish was not very flavorful).
