I frequent this gym a few times a week. It is very well kept up. The equipment is clean and always working. I never have any problems accessing any machines. The pool is heavenly but heavily chlorinated. The spa is usually filled with old men unless you get there early. If you want it to yourself you need to get there before 10am. They have a new Pilates classes that are always nearly full in the morning but there are some slots open in the afternoon and evenings. They offer weekly passes if you want to come try it out. I want to share my personal experience at this gym involving two instructors, Severo and Charmain. I was removed from Severo's class without a clear reason, and I was later told it was because he felt "uncomfortable," even though I did not do anything wrong. I never received a clear explanation, so it felt more like a personal issue than a policy issue. On the same day, I also experienced an uncomfortable situation involving Charmain, where I felt like blame was being directed toward me in a way that was not accurate, which created a very negative environment. I joined LA Fitness is 2018 in Sherman Oaks and I was assured that the gym I was attending was due for an overhaul and update. Years later, none of the equipment was upgraded and frequently, the weights I wanted were impossible to find. It's fine, no gym is perfect, but also, earlier this year, the gym closest to me closed without any notification - no email, no phone call, no letter. So I went to go to my local on Easter weekend to find that it had been permanently shut down. I went to a different LA Fitness location, a mile further away - fair - but it was SO busy and the bros in there were obnoxious and aggressive. I tried for a couple months, but it just wasn't for me. Then, I decided I was done with LA Fitness and canceling my membership was a whole other level of frustration. Finally out. Finally clear. Not going back. It bums me out because they're a relatively liberal company but they're terribly mismanaged. read more

The facility is not clean, and they are extremely stingy with basic supplies like sanitizers and paper towels for wiping equipment. Getting a membership is easy, but canceling it is a very frustrating and disappointing experience--especially if you've moved out of town, like I did. Overall, I would not recommend this gym to anyone. They seriously need to improve on cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service. read more

LA FITNESS - VAN NUYS REVIEW Unfortunately this gym is incredibly overcrowded at practically every hour of the day. Doesn't really matter how early or late in the day you come it is swarming with people. But it gets worse... 1. So many broken machines (everything from resistance machines to treadmills) that rarely get fixed. 2. The locker room is filthy 24/7 not once have I stepped in the locker room and noticed how sparkly clean and fresh it smells. It's honestly disgusting, incredibly unsanitary and gross. It smells like there's a sewage leak. Be prepared for dirt, grime, sweat and extremely foul odors at all hours of the night and day. I try to hold my breath when I enter. 3. Have never seen them clean the sauna and shockingly it is absolutely routine to see 20 people packed into it at any given time. Technically there's enough seats for 6 people max. It's a scary cesspool of sweat, bacteria and stench. 4. The classes here are so incredibly obnoxiously loud, you can hear people literally screaming a the top of their lungs and the music blasting through your headphones. Management said the doors are supposed to be closed but when classes are in session people will stand by the doors and are ready to immediately reopen them if you do. 5. Front staff here aren't interested in helping you with any sort of basic requests besides scanning you in. If you ask for anything more they treat you like you're being obnoxious. 6. I honestly wish I didn't sign up here and could get my money back. You were warned! 7. Good luck trying to get ahold of a manager to voice your concerns! Not that they would implement significant changes anyways... 8. Caution, some equipment are literally dripping and oozing with black sludge, don't get this on your skin or clothes. 9. I joined LA Fitness in Van Nuys for personal training after being told I could cancel anytime. The salesperson made it sound flexible and risk-free. What I wasn't told was that I was actually signing a nine-month contract -- and that canceling early would cost me a hefty "buyout" fee. The details about this penalty were never clearly explained, and everything during sign-up felt rushed -- "just sign here." When I decided to quit after two months into the program, I was shocked to learn that I had to pay $875 to "buy myself out," as if I'd sold myself to the gym. I'm writing this review for the Better Business Bureau California because I believe customers deserve honesty -- not hidden traps or verbal promises that don't match the contract. I hope LA Fitness reviews its sales practices and trains its staff to be upfront about fees and contract terms. Fitness should build trust, not frustration. After this experience, I will definitely read -- or at least use AI tools to analyze -- any contract before signing, and never rely solely on a salesperson's explanation. read more

this gym is cool. i like this location. i like that they have lots of parking so finding a parking spot is not an issue. i also like that they are also located in a plaza with food spots. i can grab something to eat after a workout. the gym does have a smoothie bar inside which is nice. he employees I come across at the front when checking in are nice. the bathrooms are clean. the gym is pretty spacious, whenever i come to the gym it isn't that busy. maybe I come at a good time? lol i usually spend 2 hours of my time at the gym. i like that we are allowed to workout in the training section without a gym employee telling you, you can't. one of my favorite workout machines is the stair master and i like that they have more than 5 machines. keeps you from waiting in line. their machines is just the same as every other la fitness gym. i enjoy my workouts here. read more

Do not use this Club if you plan on using the Kids Club. Take the extra time to go to the north Hollywood location, it's a million times better. Ive been going here for a year and a half now and there's been 3 separate times where I come in with my child in the morning and they say sorry no ones working today. Also, during the summer the room has no AC. I dropped off my daughter one morning and when I went to pick her up she was sweating. When I suggested to the front desk that my 3 year old was sweating in the room and to maybe open the door and put a fan in everyone seemed so annoyed that I would suggest such a thing. Also the lady that works there is chronically late. it opens at 8 and she likes to show up 5-15 min late every time. read more

This is the absolute worst LA Fitness in the area. The machines are always broken. The ONLY reason I come to this one is because they have a row machine that I absolutely love; it is never in working order. It's been broken for seriously at least 6 months, unless I'm just unlucky and every time I ever come (I try to never come here if I can help it). I haven't been here in months, and I came just for that one: nope! Still broken. I came in today and there was legitimately a dozen machines that were busted, some that were really popular and essential to a workout. It's always packed in here. If they even have air conditioning, it sure doesn't feel like it's on, it's always ridiculously hot. Long lines for every machine, with the rudest gym members I've ever collectively seen at one place. Leave weights everywhere, sweat all over the gear/no towel, and will sit on machines taking their sweet old time/on their phone for 10, 15, 20 minutes while people are waiting. They couldn't care less. The lighting is terrible, there's tons of great natural light coming in and yet they have these 12k fluorescent lights blasting out of the ceiling anyway. Parking lot is terrible, Ive been here on days when cars are driving around looking for a spot for 15 and 20 minutes, like the mall at Christmas time. Avoid this one at all costs. I much more recommend either the one on Coldwater or the one on Balboa in Northridge. The Coldwater one is no frills, but it's rarely ever packed and parking is easier. You can get in and out relatively easily. The one on Balboa has great lighting and all new gear, it's really well taken care of. It looks like a night club inside, it's awesome. Im never coming to this location again, I'll go only for leg day and ONLY if I wasn't able to do leg day someplace else during the week. I received a solicitation call from a male rep at this gym at 8:35 pm. He asked for someone by a name I did not recognize and advised he had the wrong number. I also let him know I did not appreciate being called so late in the evening and felt it was out of the solicitation hours being so late. He laughed at me and became argumentative that he had every right to be calling me even tho I advised I wasn't the person he was looking for. Instead of apologizing and offering to take me off his list, he was purely unprofessional. The good is I have lost 75 pounds this last year. But, the place is getting really busted up. It can take months for them to fix things. The spa often looks like a stagnant pond as is closed about 25% of the times I go. The sauna is broken a lot too. There are many entitled rude and generally unpleasant members especially in the parking lot. The little boys taking their I am so pretty pics in the mirrors while you're changing in the background is not only annoying it is illegal. And finally if you want to shower after a swim, there are many gentlemen that use up all the hot water showering for a long, long time with the curtain open unless another gentleman joins them... nasty. read more

I really wish I could show up at location and find working equipment. Most treadmills at this location are malfunctioning, they go much slower than the indicated speed. This gym is run as cheaply as possible. Only one paper towel dispenser for each restroom. Equipment is not fixed for weeks/months. The overall gym is dirty. LA Fitness I under estimate your business. Pushing myself to get out into the world more and a more active routine like the good ol pre-March 2020 days... I've been tagging along with my friend/roommate Zack (is froomie a word?) to LA Fitness during my lunch break - Van Nuys on Sepulveda Blvd between Oxnard St and Erwin St for the last few weeks as my current gym has slowly become more a less appealing space constantly being over capacity and a lack of maintenance during the majority of the week. I love that I can always grab a cardio machine right away, fill up my water bottle if need be and that we're always greeted right away. Since members can bring up to two guest with them every time (best perk ever). I just walk in with Zack and we go to "work!" All the machines are in pretty great to solid condition. The locker/changing rooms and restrooms are always clean. The sauna is often overcrowded so I haven't been able to experience it so much, but they're nice. I love that the floors are always clean and you can easily find staff of any kind on the floor or in front. They have a nice juice bar with some snacks and grab and go items in the front area just before the cycling room. Indoor swimming pool on the right/westside of the entrance I'm hoping to dive deep into soon especially this time of year. Basketball and Racquetball courts in the deep back, turf floor training space as well as some quality Wi-Fi! LA Fit of almost Sherman Oaks offers a Kids Klub for people who are parents and/or watching someone else's kids be watched... (Totally 1000% would drop my niece, nephews or friend's kids here for a little bit... Get them socialized more while I work on my core lol). The parking lot is huge but sharing space with a small plaza and neighboring the local Costco across the light as well as the Metro Orange Line station, this area is pretty busy most of the time. We always manage to find a spot although often on the far end... Get the legs going before you get going I guess... I definitely don't mind the walk... Though the entrance way into the lot can be a little hectic when crossing on foot with no pedestrian markers/lines to give drivers a heads up coming in or out. LA lot issues and sauna space aside, because inconveniences exist everywhere... The effort the LA Fitness - "Van Oaks" crew and staff puts together is definitely one of the best things about this location. Open from 5 am until 11 pm Monday through Thursday, until 10 pm Friday and 8 to 8 on weekends which is actually later than most places. Definitely switching over to them this year, maybe you should too! read more

Added my teenage son to my account and the last three times he went to LA Fitness the front desk couldn't figure out the check in. We spoke to Ryan M. and he spent 15 minutes helping my son manage the app and check in process to avoid frustration next time. He even let us know that with the Wellhub app that my son got a free training session. LA Fitness needs more employees like Ryan. Makes going to the gym easier. read more

I go to this location on weekends, as it's impossible to make a left-hand turn going North on Sepulveda during the week. Traffic is horrendous! I'd recommend going before 10am on weekends, and the front desk kids are nice and actually smile and say hello. I'm told afternoons and evenings are jam packed and you can't get on any equipment. DO NOT use the dry sauna under any Circumstances!! It's crowded beyond the allowed capacity, stinks to high heaven, and the guys are rude and walk in drenched in sweat and couldn't care less. They should permanently shut this down, as I'm sure it's impossible to keep clean and enforce the rules. The showers are so-so, but there's always someone hacking and spitting, which I've now gotten used to. NoHo West is the best for me right now, as it's on my way to work in Burbank and very well managed and kept clean. read more

Took my 80+ mother to her first Yoga class. We were early, so settled in on mats in the second "row". Three women who frequently come together were in the first row to the right. Another woman (A) was in the center of the first row. A second woman (B) entered, put her mat two inches away from woman (A) and told her to move over because she was in her space. At one point woman B announced that she was an instructor, and she was auditing the class. When woman A refused to move, the three women began to harass her and claimed that "regulars" get first pick of spaces and everyone else has to move. Then the instructor came in, and reiterated this, claiming that the first row is "the most important row" and it's for "good energy only" and kept insisting that this poor woman who had gotten there before anyone else had to move "to the back of the classroom - because I'm the boss". The woman refused, so the instructor took her own mat and taught from the corner of the room - where only the three women could see her. I spoke with the staff afterwards and asked the manager to call me, and it's been one week now... no call. I don't think Mean Girls who operate like they are in middle school should be teaching a Yoga class. And who claims real estate at LA Fitness? Isn't it there for everyone? REFUSES TO CANCEL I have tried to cancel this gym membership 3 times. The 1st time, they said it could not be canceled on a weekend. They would send me a link to cancel. The 2nd time I tried to use the form from the link; it was for canceling a personal training contract I don't have. The 3rd time the person at the desk said she lacked the ability on her computer to cancel the membership; since my health insurance paid my dues, only the health insurer could cancel. I called my health insurer. They said they had no access to the L.A. Fitness system and could not cancel my gym membership. I begged them to stop sending any money to this horrible place. read more

I've been regularly attending LA Fitness for several years now and have seen it evolve over the years. Recently, they've renovated and made it look a lot nicer. I enjoy this gym because they have child care and a large dedicated parking lot, bar inside for juices and such and all the equipment is in good shape! It's kept very clean and I like the small lockers they offer for keys and things! The hours are not fun as I like evening workouts. It's also really crowded at times and you end up waiting for equipment. Like smack on the middle of the day! Don't these people have jobs?
