LA Fitness Walpole, MA. This used to be a great gym with lots of options plus a great pool. Last year or two don't they seem to care about any of it. The owners and management have let the pool to hell and it's been closed for 18 months now. It's always something and management do not want to fix any of it. Temperature is always warm as they don't adjust for the weather or use fans or a/c. It is in a great location and could be a great overall gym for just about anyone's goals, but management sucks. Even the local Managers complain as they don't know how to address the members concerns. When you call the main office in CA, they don't get back to you and act like they don't care. This is not the only LA Fitness in MA that treats their members and the facilities badly. They need a complete change. read more

I have been a member since it was opened. I am disabled Veteran. Main reason I signed up was for the pool and pool classes due to injuries to my back. The pool has been closed down for fix almost over a year and never get it done! They keep saying the pool is not opened since a year ago. We as a member have been paying the membership fee but never be able to use the pool. No one follow up the issue, management in this club is pretty bad. read more

The pool hasn't worked since October of 2024. What's worse is managers kept saying it would be fixed by a certain date, first Dec1st, then Jan1st, then March 1st, then finally June1st. Its July and it still doesn't work. It was difficult to make a decision about canceling membership, thinking ok, I'll wait it out. The managers all told different tales about the why as well. And now they refer to the contract language stating LA Fintess makes no guarantee of the pool or any equipment being usable. I've contacted corporate several times and they have never responded. Never fixed any of their machines , for an entire week they had absolutely nothing to clean the machines. So people were swearing and then just leaving it. No matter what you say they don't care just want your money! read more

I have been a member for over 10 years. For much of that time, I would have rated this health club a 5. The members are great and the breadth of amenities is great. For example, there are basketball courts, a pool, a dedicated cardio floor, classes, free weights etc. Unfortunately however, after over a year of corporate management failing to provide even the most basic maintenance, I now am forced to rate this facility as a 1. As other Yelp reviews have noted, the pool has been out of service since October 2024. There are 3 stairclimber machines...none of which have worked in over 10 months. One of the two water fountains on the first floor leaked about 6 months ago....it was shut off and never repaired. The HVAC system does not work properly during the summer months....the cardio deck is on the second floor and on hot days, it is so uncomfortably warm that many members choose to forgo the cardio part of their workout. It pains me to say that a once-great club has been starved so completely of resources that even the most basic, expected maintenance is not being performed. read more

The gym used to be great, not anymore. I am a member of this gym 8+year's, they keep taking equipment away and not replacing them, they don't care about there customers. I have complained to the company nothing has been done about it. The Only reason why i still go there is because of the sauna, and the whirlpool is near my location. Once I find a better one closer to me, I am gone. They are the only Lafitness in Stoughton that does not upgrade their equipment, people are paying every year for maintenance and it's not been done. I went to a La fitness in Florida, it was a great experience they have every type of equipment you can think of. Why can't they have it in this location....I am so disappointed in this place. I do HIIT workouts, I have to bring my own resistance band or even medicine ball. That's Ridiculous. Small things like that is a disappointing. read more

This gym is a complete joke. Nothing ever works either the pool is down, saunas down, basketball court is down. Sometimes they are all down at the same time! You cannot count on anything working at this gym. The locker rooms are constantly filthy, never any paper towels or soap, smells like stagnant pond water and BO. Coming here and then going to the stoughton location is like night and day (the stoughton location is excellent) I dont know who is in charge of this place but they are immensley incompetent and should do literally anything else with their life because they absolutely STINK at running a gym. read more

I have been working with a trainer named Michael at LA Fitness in Walpole now for several months. I have come to rely on Michael's expertise and dedication to physical fitness. I have been working most with Michael on strength and endurance. He also has the knowledge to target specific areas where I lack ability. Michael and the Team continually assesses and reassesses where I am on my fitness journey. Weights, Reps and techniques are constantly being adjusted for maximum results and minimal damage to myself. Like anything else in life, if you find subject matter experts, and you listen to them, you'll get better results. read more

Have been a member for many years. Antiquated equipment that is not maintained. Cardio on the second floor is 10 degrees higher with no ventilation or airflow. They could put fans but they don't - AC doesn't seem to be working - breeding ground for bacteria and the cardio equipment (most don't work properly or are badly rusted). Every time I leave the gym, the app asks me to rate my visit with a landing on an error page so you can't leave feedback. Simple maintenance of equipment doesn't exist. read more

the machines are plentiful however they are not good quality and are often broken. The bathrooms always smell terrible and look uncleaned. The basketball court has only popped balls and when confronting the front desk said it's not our problem. Front desk also unwilling to check the cameras to see if they could find lost headphones. Regardless with some of the reviews, This Gym is great if it was the year 2000 and the cardio machines were all working. In a nutshell, this lA fitness location WAS the best one around years ago, however the cardio machines are so outdated, as well as more than half are broken and inoperable. This gym lacks the attraction it use to have. With a face lift and a lil cleanliness here and there, this would be a very nice gym. with what you pay per month you should get the same out of it. read more

For some reason, this location never has all their spray bottles full. Typically half of them will be completely empty. Or the paper towel dispenser will be empty. When the bottle is empty, people often just don't worry about wiping down machines. So obviously this place isn't as clean as it would be. That seems like the very most basic expectation that the facility make an attempt at being sanitary. read more

Gym equipment needs to be maintained and customer service should be excellent. Just look around the gym and you will see the out of service signs on machines. Some employees are genuinely trying but their individual actions don't change the overall impression. I came here for the first time this weekend. This Gym does have a good selection of equipment. The largest issue is that it was filthy. There was dried sweat on virtually every machine I saw. It looks like it had been there for quite some time. Most people go to a gym for the equipment, but if the equipment is dirty, one worries about staph infections. There were no wipes to wipe down the machines, and most of the paper towel dispensers we're out of paper towels. As it is with most LA fitness locations, in their infinite wisdom they've put the cardio deck on the hottest place possible in the facility , the second floor. Thankfully heat doesn't rise or anything. They do have three large fans to try to combat the temperature problems they have, but they really don't push the air much. LA Fitness - Dried sweat on the machines - Gyms Near Me - East Walpole, Massachusetts

The good: (1) The variety of equipment is excellent. The weight room has many kinds of benches and some machines that use the weight plates to load the resistance. The machine room has a complete variety of Nautilus-type machines, often more than one version so that you can find one that has just the right feel for you. There is a huge number of aerobics machines in the aerobics room upstairs, and there are some more machines, such as stair steppers and a rowing machine, on the main floor. There also is a spinning room that is available whenever there is no class in session, a swimming pool, a small heated pool, a basketball court, three handball courts, and a training room officially reserved for the trainers to work with members but available if trainers are not using it. I was a member of Planet Fitness for a few years, and I also tried another small gym. LA Fitness is miles ahead of them in the variety and number of pieces of equipment and breadth of facilities. (2) The trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. My wife worked with two of them. One seemed good but left soon after we started, and the other was outstanding. They are general fitness and PT trainers, not dedicated weight coaches, but they seem to know their business. They offer a variety of training, including PT, water exercise, and spinning. The bad: (1) The equipment is not as well maintained as it should be. Virtually all (maybe literally all) the resistance machines are missing the small pins that allow you to make small adjustments to the machine's resistance. That means the jumps in resistance from one setting to the next often are far too big. I get around that problem by bringing a 3" quarter-inch bolt that fits into the hole where the missing pins would go. In the weight room, there are not enough free-weight bars for all the benches. By my count, 5 more are needed to have one bar for each bench. That's not a problem if you go when there aren't many people in the gym but can be a problem during busy times. There also are not enough retaining collars even for the number of bars that are there. (2) Although they say their trainers can coach weight lifting, my impression from talking to them is that I know more about using free weights than they do. They can introduce you to the weights, but they don't seem to know the details. One guy, no longer working there, said stuff that was outright wrong but said it with great confidence as if he knew what he was talking about. I have been lifting for 35 years and have talked extensively to dedicated weight lifting coaches in a university gym where I used to work. (3) By far the worst of all is the business end of the operation, which is so bad as to be nearly crooked. My wife signed up for 6 months of training so she could learn to use the machines and decide which exercises were best for her. She has had a back operation and has limited range of motion because of that. Although the two trainers she worked with were excellent, they both got sick (at least one with Covid) and also had vacation, meaning my wife got no training for many weeks. We also got Covid, and my wife had an especially long-lasting effects, so that we missed more weeks. The result was that we missed a full 14 weeks of training, mostly because the trainers had to cancel. Nonetheless, the business manager would agree only to extend my wife's training time by one month, as if we could make up 14 once-a-week training sessions in just 4 weeks. My wife was still suffering the effects of her Covid infection, so she didn't go even once in that extra month. Come on! They kept asking us to be patient with their staffing problems during the Covid epidemic, but then they treated us callously when we got Covid. They also would not acknowledge that most of the sessions we missed were because *their* people canceled, not us. To put it bluntly, we got cheated. If you pay your dues and all you want is access to the facilities, there will be no problem. If you want training, be very careful. Other comments: (1) When we first started going, the place was filthy with dust kitties floating around and dirt all over the place. Apparently that was because they were having trouble hiring people, which was a common occurrance during and after the Covid pandemic. They seem to have hired people now, and the place is clean. (2) The vinyl seat covers on many of the machines were old and cracked for a while, but they just recently fixed it all, so that problem also has been solved. read more

I've been going here for about 2 years now. They have really good equipment. The gym is lacking cleanliness. The amount of money that goes into this place there's no excuse why the cleanliness couldn't be better. The locker rooms are filth and there always seems to be empty spray bottles or the paper towels needs to be refilled. The sauna at times is broken or never works correctly. I don't understand the bad reviews either. I decided to give it a try because another gym I went to and liked had a similar bad rating on yelp. Overall I'd recommend this place. I was given a one-week temporary pass. There wasn't much sales and bargaining. I felt comfortable talking to them. And they acted politely when I told them no (because it turned out my kids had to have YMCA membership so we ended up having a family membership with the Y). Unlike what one review mentioned, there was always someone at the front desk when I passed there. The gym is spacious and clean. There is no waiting for equipments, and the group class studio at least doubles the size of the Y studios I've been to so everyone has lots of space. The same with Aqua fit class. Because LA Fitness pool is about 4 feet deep everywhere, class participants can utilize the whole pool. One thing I note is that the group class studio is noticeably cooler than those in the other gyms I've been to. It could be a good thing, since you feel more comfortable. It could be a bad thing, because I am so used to sweating and sweating is linked to rewarding in my brain. read more

I'm a self-employed massage therapist with an office near this gym, and the first time I came to L A Fitness, it was only because one of my clients had suggested that they might have a bulletin board where I could post a few business cards. Because after all, a gym is just a gym, right? (At least, that's what I was thinking, before I actually got there and walked inside...) Before I'd even parked my car, though that impression had already begun to change: instead of the drab grays of Boston Sports Club and visually oppressive black, dark purple and chartreuse decor of Planet Fitness, here was a bright, sunny place with floor-to-ceiling windows, a 20' circular desk with friendly faces and personal trainers on hand to greet and guide you, with 40' high ceilings, lots of room to move around between the pieces of equipment (which is arrayed across a huge main floor and a second-tier balcony that's larger than some of the places I've belonged to in the past), sizable spin class and other classrooms and handball courts, an 85-degree heated pool with adjacent hot tub, saunas, very nicely appointed locker rooms with individual shower stalls, and all beautifully maintained and available from the wee hours of the morning until 11PM/ Needless to say, I became a member almost instantly and can honestly say that this is the first and only place of its kind that I have ever sincerely looked forward to returning to, on a regular basis -- and that's saying a lot, for a guy who'd never worked out at a gym before 2010, and had only done so a dozen or so times since then, before joining L A Fitness! What more can I say? IMHO, this place is about as good as it gets!!! read more

I was cheated. I booked for 6 month professional training contract. For the first three months, I just didn't get any trainer assigned. I complained to receptionist that I haven't got anyone and they kept religiously charging me every month. Because of this I requested them to cancel my contract which they didn't. I got someone assigned after 5 months of the day I signed contract. And, they kept charging me for more than 6 months. And they said I should keep paying to continue my classes. Feel broken and cheated of $2000. When I cancelled yesterday, I was told I should complete my remaining 21 sessions in 30 days. And no refund for the extra month charge. Wow, is this place gross compared to the Stoughton location! The mens' locker room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days and I didn't get the impression the equipment is wiped down much either. To add insult to injury, I unfortunately had a run in with Andre, the Jersey-Shore-loving, Euro-trash-oozing "sales manager" at the end of my tour. I believe he just might be one of the most arrogant and rude salespeople I have ever met. He wanted to charge me a "transfer fee", which was absolutely ridiculous and he even decided to throw out an insult when I laughed at him. I walked out after the 2 minute conversation and I don't expect to ever set foot in that place ever again. Not sure who's in charge but what a joke of a gym business. I went with my friend here to work out. He was thinking about getting a membership. As some guy who uses a gym regularly, I offered to go with him to show him the machines. We called ahead and ask if it was possible to get a couple of free day passes to try out the space. The man on the phone said that this was "no problem" and we headed over. We checked in with the front desk and they said we would get our passes once we spoke with a sales person. Fine, I thought to myself, you expect to get a brief pitch from a sales representative if you go to check out a gym. But, we didn't get a brief sales pitch. We got a 45 minute diatribe from some dude who referred to himself as the "manager". Mr Manager alternated between bombarding us with pointed questions about our personal lives and fitness routines to hostilely goading my friend into buying a membership before we were even allowed to work out. When Mr Manager finally exhausted my friend's patience: my friend told him, explicitly, that we wanted to try working out first and see how it went before purchasing the expensive membership. That's when Mr Manager revoked the offer of the free passes. And, grasping at straws, accused me of nonsense like being a personal trainer who was trying to train my client at his gym for free. We left without getting to (or wanting to) work out. The facility looks decent; the equipment was fine. But, the staff here seems miserable and if Mr Manager is any indication: they're out of their minds. If Mr Manager had just let us workout like they promised: my friend would still have purchased a membership. Even if they had wasted the same amount of our time: my friend would have purchased a membership. And, I might have come to pay for the occasional day-pass to join him. Instead, they revoked an offer they made to us and I'm here writing this fucking review about this shitty "manager" at a dumb gym that you should definitely not pay money for. read more

I wake up at 11 today because my girlfriend wanted to go to spin class. My girlfriends family had a contract for 4 years that stated she could go without her father, and bring up to 2 guests. Up until today it was never a problem. So we get into spin class and it just starts... Then the power hungry Ms. Piggy comes in. Flips out, saying that she does not have a membership, she needs to leave her father has one. So my girlfriend, who used to work there and stopped working there because everyone was so rude, starts crying not understanding why she has to humiliate her. We found the original contract and the mother called Ms. Piggy ( Operations Manager, Julie) has to be right at all times. In the spin class I said, excuse me you're being rude, apparently there's no such thing as Julie the inexperienced operational manager being rude. So to resolve the problem the mother calls saying she has the original contract... OM Julie (piglet) can never be wrong and wouldn't even listen before cutting her off. 1. You can't not honor a contract before the term ends. 2. You can't change a contract before it ends. 3. The customer is always right 4.
