If you like cheese (and who doesn't), this is the place for now! My wife is all about the cheese, so we had to go here. The dining is tight, so make sure to make a reservation! We started with a platter of regional cheeses. The waitress was very helpful in describing what was available. We were still hungry after the starter, so we ordered a classic French open-faced ham and cheese sandwich. There were four different types of cheese on it. It was so incredibly creamy! Wonderful little restaurant. The seating for dining is up stairs in the back of the cheese shop. Seating on the second floor and a rooftop balcony. The rooftop seating is the best. Didn't open for dinner until 7PM. It filled with mostly locals by 8. We were lucky to get in without a reservation Food was outstanding. All 4 of us were pleased. Wine list was solid for casual dining and mixed drinks were available also. Waiter was local and spoke excellent English. I absolutely loved this place. Besides the copious amounts of gorgeous cheeses and wines on display downstairs for take-away (along with some small tables outside in the passage) there's a wonderful tasting space, and tables upstairs for the restaurant. On a beautiful day, we sat upstairs in a shaded little terrace where there was a cool breeze. I had a salade de chèvre chaud that might have been the best I've ever had..., with lardons and perfectly ripe tomatoes, and melted goat cheese on delicious toasty bread. Then I had a pasta of the day with juicy tomatoes, sweet sausage, and pecorino. It was wonderful. Something that made me really really happy was their wine list - by the glass they had a white Château Simone from Palette, one of France's smallest appellations. It was stunning, as was this simple and perfect meal. Will run here next time I'm in Aix. read more

Want to eat cheese? so let's eat cheese! A nice place where to have a dish or two. The place is on 3 floors, with some couple of high seating on the ground floor, a dining room on the first and a rooftop (unfortunately surrounded by taller buildings) on top floor! They basically offer a small choice of foods (tartare, carpaccio, salads and so on) and then cheese boards, which are the real highlight of the place (and you can notice it from the awesome cheese assortment on the ground floor!). Prices seems to be on the expensive side (20+ euros per dish) but the portion are abundant, I suggest to share a plate and a board for 2 people. I personally tried the tartare, which was not the kind of raw meat I like (too much condiment with the beef, with garlic, mustard and egg) but tapas were actually really good! And then the cheese, oh the cheese! you can choose among different types of board, or you can go straight for the full thing (personally, take it only if you are 5 people or more), with jams and bread! LOVED this place. We sat upstairs and tried too many to remember. But it was a gorgeous spread to enjoy with our wine. This is probably the best meal I've ever had in my life. My waiter did not speak English, but I was the only tourist in my group - FYI. If you have any knowledge of french. YOU MUCH GO TO THIS PLACE. First of all, its in a dark alley way. French cheese, in a small south-france corridor. You can't find a better balance between "tourist destination" + "local hot spot". Well worth paying a kidney. The food is, of course, incredible. We went in a group of three men and one pregnant lady. If you're with child, of course, you cannot eat 85% of the menu, but tell the staff that and the chef will accommodate. Because, it's France! You can order specific types of cheeses, but if you're looking for a specific type of cheese, go to Carrefour. The magic of this restaurant is that you just tell the waiter WHAT YOU HATE and the chef will select the cheeses on your plate. Each option is a predetermined about of cheese: 8, 10, 12, etc. then you wait. You wait You wait. Watching everyone feasting on fresh bread and exclusive cheese options. Then, like an angel coming from the heavens, you finally are able to experience the magic. and it will be worth it. Bread is perfect. Cheese is flavorful and creamy, meat (oh, yeah. our platter came with 4 meats) was absolutely complimentary. 4 people. 12 cheeses. 4 meats. 1 bottle of wine. 84 Euros total (21 each). Cheese shop and restaurant in passageway off Cours Mirabeau. Great selection of cheeses. Stopped for lunch. Fromagier was very knowledgeable in helping us choose five cheeses. They also have preselected wine and cheese pairings. Then we went to top floor terrace where we ordered wine. Cheese board came with bread and a small salad. Topped off with a slice of cheesecake it was easily enough for our appetite. Highly recommended. read more

Charming setting in a curious little passage that one happens upon almost as if by accident, and voila here is a lovely fromagerie! They a beautiful selection of cheese as well as breads, dips, tapenades etc so you can pack up a few things and be on your way for a picnic extraordinaire. There are tons of fromage options, and they are ready to give you even the tiniest slice to facilitate your picnicking plans. They do have seating upstairs and outside where you can order cheese boards, a bit of charcuterie etc, but we stopped in just for a little fromage a go-go and loved it. read more
