We were very happy to find this restaurant as there was not many places in Guethary which was serving food past 3pm! The team was very nice and friendly. My dish was succulent, half a breast duck served with corn mash and sweet potatoes fries and an orange sauce with espelette pepper. The only disappointment of the meal was the Basque cider : Errekalde which was recommended by the team, its taste was horrible.

They have a lot of delicious dishes that are all in pots. It could be hot (axoa, pasta, fish, etc.) that you need to put in the microwave or cold (a lot of different great salads and sandwich). If you come in the morning you can even order your own salad or sandwich by choosing between 15 or 20 different ingredients and it will be ready by the time you decide. Very clever! The desserts are to die for, especially pêche melba and their basque cake. People told me that their chocolate basque cake is just perfection, I can't confirm, I don't like chocolate ^^ They also have couple of tables right by the sea and above the building where you can enjoy the sun. The breakfast for two included orange juice, fresh crusty bread, coffee, a big slice of a quiche and an egg pintxo. All that for two people cost less than 6 USD. With the exception of Costa Rica, perhaps the best tasting coffee in the 55 countries we have visited. They serve all day and have a much more extensive menu. Full bar.

Coming from dinner at tre star Arzak the night before, we were a bit worried we would be blassé, but it turned out that a lunch package at Briketenia that has one Guide Michelin star almost impressed us more. The price for a lunch during weekdays is 35EUR and this is what we got. Beautiful and tasty appetizers, a very French gazpacho served in a martini glass, the first course (I chose calamares), the main course (I chose a fish), - they offered us cheese here but we said no to save room -, the dessert and then some candy on sticks and last but not least some frozen candy on a stick. I was very happy with the flavors and the wine and champagne were also very reasonably priced. All in all, we loved this place. It might have been a little stiff, but the main hostess was super friendly and made up for all of that. Martin Ibarboure is the brother of the owner of the other one star restaurant this little picturesque surf village holds; Les Frères Ibarboure.

Everything was exceptional. The terrace also has a lovely view of the mountains, and big umbrellas to shield you from the sun. Highly recommend!
